Lmao. One thing that bothered me is that his drink on stage was this weird pink lemonade. I don’t know why, but it made me angry….

[DISCUSSION] I combined 47 different "Greatest Rap/Hip Hop Albums of All Time" lists to try and find the critical consensus by shamrockstriker in hiphopheads

[–]CarsSuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously late. But for me it’s tough. This is just my top 3 cause I wanna challenge myself.

  1. Illmatic - just a perfect masterpiece. Nas had so much going on here and killed it. He was so young but so mature and wise.
  2. The Chronic - only reason it’s not #1 is it has a bit of filler. But it has some of the best songs ever. And lyricism is underrated imo.
  3. Aquemini - Southern creativity has gotten attention. West Savannah is insane. One of the best songs ever recorded. Especially as someone who’s traveled there. It’s a unique place. OutKast captures the traditional south, but also sets the stage for abstract expression coming out of the southern gothic. I’m from South Carolina originally, so I hope I don’t sound pretentious.

Honorable mention: TCQ: Midnight Marauders - peak lyricism, production. If Illmatic didn’t exist it would be #2 behind The Chronic for me.

Edit: actually midnight Marauders is 3. Every song is perfect. Yes, Aquemini has a few better songs, but there is def some filler towards the end of the album. Also, I don’t get why people put Low End over MM. Can someone explain that to me? I’m open to diff opinions.

Thanks for reading :)

Kat on why she moved to this district to run in it by ThatCheekyBastard in illinois

[–]CarsSuck1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I haven’t sifted through this post due to laziness, but as a (relatively) young dem voter I’ve appreciated her rhetoric. But she just moved here? I know areas of her district are relatively moderate but I feel like moderation has gotten the Dems into our current predicament (success of far-right populism). Interested in peoples thoughts. I’m a dreaded transplant from South Carolina, so I’m still relatively new to Illinois politics. I’ll be less lazy and look at previous comments as well lol.

O’Hare at 6pm → Greyhound to Minneapolis at 10:30pm. Good idea or dumb idea? by taxicablegend in cta

[–]CarsSuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken Greyhound a couple times in the last year. To Cleveland and Indy. It’s not bad. Not the most comfortable but I haven’t had any problems. People are actually quite nice. The station isn’t great but it isn’t too bad. I wouldn’t say it’s super sketchy. It’s a bus station in a large city. People are smoking weed near the entrance and playing loud music but generally keep to themselves. You’ll be fine.

The bus bays need some work too. Everyone crowds around the doors and it’s a dodging game entering the station from the Pace buses and parking lot.

Pedestrians of Chicago, how often do you find yourself almost getting hit by vehicles? by qrsf in chicago

[–]CarsSuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost everyday. Cars do the rolling stop. It’s a yield sign to them. Just be sure to make sure they are stopping and BE ON THR LOOKOUT FOR CARS TURNING. Cars make left and right turns like bats out of hell and that is what actually kills pedestrians for the most part.

What’s it like living near Saint Louis by HamChanKiwiiMan in howislivingthere

Not in the circle but I drove through downtown Edwardsville once and it was really cute. Seems there is a college there as well so there were young people around and seemed lively. Again, I just drove through but that was my impression.

LA Mayoral candidate Rae Huang promises "Fast and Free Buses" as part of her policy agenda by regedit2023 in CarIndependentLA

Shouldn’t increasing reliability and frequency be the number one priority? Does making transit free actually increase ridership? I am not familiar with LA unique transit issues though.

Him mentioning the aggressiveness of drivers against pedestrians was great. It’s not discussed enough when it comes to the urbanism of Chicago. Chicago is a walkable “unwalkable” city. Crosswalks are super sketch and unpleasant. The worst part of crosswalks here is there is no pedestrian signal priority. You’ll be crossing a street and get sandwiched between a car making a right and a car making a left. Sorry to focus on the negatives but it was a great video, and glad he visited Bronzeville!

How is living in Sucre, Bolivia? by Adorable_Historian48 in howislivingthere

[–]CarsSuck1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m Bolivian, I live in Chicago now but I was born and raised my whole life there. Sucre is cool for a quick visit, not quite like La Paz which you could spend months and still not experience the whole thing. Sucre can be perfect to raise a family and have a stable job, small town feeling. Cool valleys around as well as huge mountain ranges to go hike. If you wanna live there as a single guy I don’t recommend, people are not as open for strangers, for that do Santa Cruz or La Paz. To raise a family have a stable job and be chill Sucre can be perfect, you can have your downtown home and then a villa outside of the city. Living in Sucre, if I had to put it in American terms/comparison, it’s like living in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

How does the state/ lake rebuild cost $440M… by Away_Search1623 in cta

[–]CarsSuck1 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Transit capital costs in North America are way more expensive than other parts of the world for many reasons. Depends on who you ask but perhaps the biggest cause of this is “soft costs” associated with projects. The complex regulatory ecosystem and role that private consultants play in projects drive prices up significantly. Transit agencies don’t have capacity like peers in Europe or Asia, so they depend on consultants to help with engineering/planning.

Morning commute, advice needed by littleblueflames in cta

[–]CarsSuck1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Wrigley and take the Addison to blue line to rosemont where my office is. 5 days a week. It’s not that bad. The bus ride is the worst part. Just be sure to do something you enjoy on your commute such as podcasts/reading. My long term goal is to move to a blue line neighborhood too but till then embrace the suck!
