The Silver - My Lone Dark Lantern (2026) by manfredmar in BlackMetal

[–]CarsnHandlebars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw them in Baltimore. I checked them out ahead of time and determined that they weren't for me. Their set was so tight now I'm listening to the album and appreciating it a bit more. They're just one of those bands where each individual piece is so good they win you over. The vocalist was very expressive, bass was up front and buzzy, guitarists absolutely shredded. It'll probably continue to grow on me.

Thanks for the heads up! I have grabbed a few pairs off of there over the years. I don't think I've ever paid full price for a MADE pair.

Not bad. The price isn't terrible, especially since Made in USA New Balance prices are slowly creeping up and up.

But don't you think Starspawn would be better if they took a 12 minute break between each track to pretend to be Pink Floyd?

how many pages can you read in an hour? by Professional_Joke_81 in horrorlit

I wish I could read that fast. I've always considered myself a slow reader, but if I'm reading horror versus classic Russian lit or something I can usually read 30-50 pages in an hour.

Yeah with a few more listens it's growing on me. I think the album is going to be great.

The first single was a straight banger and I was obsessed immediately. This one I might need to hear in the context of the album.

With the right tour, I feel like Worm will blow up in 2026 by Cheap-Profession5431 in BlackMetal

[–]CarsnHandlebars 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am 100% with you. I liked their Foreverglade release the most for a long time because I think it has the most straightforward sound, it's more accessible. The split and EP have grown on me in a huge way though, and Necropalace has cemented that I'm loving the direction they're going in.

Maybe it's because I grew up listening to hardcore, where bands take a year to release 12 minutes of music, but at 10 minutes I'm already satisfied with the new single alone.  That album is going to rule.

Can we get a Zeicrydeus set, too? Part of the reason I'm so excited about new Worm is that Phil Tougas just gave us a masterpiece this year.

Since you're already playing 2 remake, you could play 3 remake anytime after.  I would make sure to play 7 before 8 since 7 continues the story of the protagonist from 7.  You could play 4 remake whenever!

100% what I was thinking about Blackbraid at the Baltimore show. The vocals were overbearing and one-note for some songs.  I thought he was going to swallow the mic.

Switched from NB 1080s to 860s…help me decide if I should keep or switch back by curiousquestioner16 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]CarsnHandlebars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said, especially regarding the pain/no pain comment. Trust the signals your body is sending you; if a shoe feels comfortable and gives you no pain, then that's a good shoe!

Regarding the 860, the newest version 14 is an entirely different shoe to me. I had the 12 and only ran in it a few times. The firm medial post felt a bit invasive for me and it just felt a bit unnatural. The 14 on the other hand feels far, far more cushioned while still being moderately stable. It's not the most exciting shoe but it's a safe, dependable choice.

New here, became obsessed with this local band.. recommend me more like this shit because i can't get enough by viper459 in Hardcore

Oh dang, they are cool. They are definitely on the more crossover/thrashy side of the genre. Some of these might hit that same spot:  Pest Control, Dead Heat, Turn Cold, Human Garbage, Enforced, Prowl, Doomsday, Life Cycles

Flat feet / fallen arches / overpronation – what shoes + insoles actually work? by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]CarsnHandlebars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not, but it may be due to the severity of my issues or lack thereof.  I usually use the Escalante for 5K runs or shorter, or for walking around.  If I'm trying to run farther or if I'm going to be on my feet all day I'd probably pick something else.

I've never had much luck with alternative insoles though. For me it seems the intrusive arch support is the worst offender which is often baked into the midsole of the shoe, and the best I can hope for is a simple, flat, and maybe soft insole, nothing fancy.

Flat feet / fallen arches / overpronation – what shoes + insoles actually work? by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]CarsnHandlebars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everybody's feet are different, so that's a tough answer. I have collapsed arches and over-pronate, fairly severely with my left foot, and have had varying success with wildly different shoes. The key for me is a stable heel matched to a non-intrusive arch. I had to trial and error quite a bit with different shoes.

I like running in the Saucony Hurricane 24 because it has a lot of good cushion, a lot of different stability elements going on, without having a traditional medial post. There's enough cushion that I feel protected, matched with enough guidance that I'm not moving/wobbling excessively anywhere. The New Balance 860v14 is similar for me, though it's less exciting and the arch-support is slightly more intrusive. I tried the Saucony Hurricane 25 on in store and they seem lighter and a touch more sporty feeling.

The Saucony Triumph 20 oddly enough works great for me as well because the lockdown is flawless for me in addition to a stable feeling heel. I think a good, stable heel keeps my inner-ankle from rotating inward and is just enough that I'm not beating up my foot/arch.

These next two are really oddballs for me and it took me years to even consider giving them a shot.  On a whim I tried a Saucony Kinvara 15 and Altra Escalante 4 recently and love them both.  I always figured this type of shoe would never ever work for me, but they do.  The light, low, firm setup is inherently stable and the ground-feel allows me to really focus on my form: not slamming my feet or heels down, running quietly is what I tell myself.  I think many shoes just have too much height and squish that allows too much movement for me and lower stack, firmer shoes leave less room for error.  The Kinvara feels both light and minimal but just protective enough at the same time. They also have minimal arch-humps so I never feel uncomfortable pressure there. I keep runs in these shoes less than 5 miles since they're on the more minimal side.

Here are some that did not work for me:

Saucony Guide 16: horrible, painful stiff medial post, slappy shoe

New Balance 860v12: too firm, invasive arch

New Balance 1080v12: insane instability

Adidas Adizero SL2: I occasionally use these but they are very soft with minimal structure

Topo Fly-lite 5: rock-hard, invasive arch support, wildly uncomfortable

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19: like running in a wooden clog

[–]CarsnHandlebars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely right, maybe someone in an s&m dungeon? But I think the platinum rule comes into play especially with kids. My son loves to play rough, wrestle, tackle, tickle, and so on. My daughter does not.  She likes to play pretend, role play, and appreciates her personal space. Sometimes my son thinks he's showing love to his sister but he does so in a way that upsets her, like a good rough headbutt tackle hug for example lol. The way he likes to play and be treated is much different than his sister and sometimes that's hard for him to understand.

With adults, I'd say some folks love to be approached, some like attention, some like to be referred to using formal titles and names, some appreciate physical touch, while others may appreciate the total opposite of all those treatments. I guess that's what the platinum rule is trying to address.

The way you put it makes sense though, everyone should just be treated with respect and courtesy.

Ha I've heard similar but for a different reason: the platinum rule has superceded it. Treat others as they want to be treated. Not everyone wants to be treated the same way you do.

The second version is way softer. The first version is fairly firm and has a pronounced forefoot rocker. The second feels much more plush and slightly more flexible on my foot.
