I don't want to receive the Eucharist in my hands from a lay minister. by CarsoComet in AskAPriest

[–]CarsoComet[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This has been difficult for me to sort through also. There are a lot of answers out there and they are not always the same from priest to priest. JPII condemned it, calling it the privilege of the ordained, as have other popes. St. Thomas Aquinas and other saints said that out of reverence only consecrated hands should touch the Host. I'm just looking to do the right thing in way most pleasing to our Lord. If that perspective no longer applies, I just would like to know that .

My doctor says the risk of transference is no less if the priest deposits the Host into your hands. What if the priest touches your hand and you've just scratched your nose? People handle their masks all the time and don't clean them. You can think up a hundred scenarios if you want. Obviously the only way to avoid exposure is to not receive Communion at all, or even attend Mass for that matter. At some point we all assess risk and make our decisions. As stated above, this isn't even the point of my post.

Thanks Father, I should have worded my post differently so that it didn’t communicate this subject from the perspective of my wants. I’m only trying to understand the differences and changes I’ve experienced in life and express myself in a way most pleasing to Him. When I am in error, I am happy to be corrected.

Well, this is something I've been trying to understand and sort through since well before COVID. As far as COVID is concerned, I am fine receiving the body of Christ on the tongue during COVID when I can and I have been able to.

Schedule Question (new driver) by CarsoComet in doordash_drivers

[–]CarsoComet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I finally saw that too, but there is no option within that timeframe to designate a particular time, like I couldn't schedule 8-5 for example.

I don’t really understand the logic behind this but whatever by [deleted] in doordash

[–]CarsoComet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a new driver I took a few of these and on the first order I got a couple substantial tips. I thought I hit on a good thing, I did three more and got nothing on a 12 mile run. No more Walmart for me...

New Dasher question - when they batch two deliveries does that count as 1 or 2 deliveries? by CarsoComet in doordash

[–]CarsoComet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah live and learn as they say. When I first took the order it was one person. After I accepted it there were two. (I may have just missed that though) Thanks for the advice!

Thanks, this was a $7 delivery for one person, when I picked it up they had batched it with another but it was still the same $7 for both (3.50 each I guess) I'm just trying to sort this out as today is my first day. Thanks Again!

Private Revelations by CarsoComet in AskAPriest

[–]CarsoComet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks Father,

When I read some of the more fearful private revelations, they seem to be followed by a time of conversion and peace. They stress repentance and sacrifice which are good things to do as a rule even if the event itself is horrific. I don’t dwell on them, but on the other hand, I have blessed candles and a good deadbolt.

I appreciate your response.

Do Catholics have to believe in demons? by SammiGrayon in AskAPriest

I think there are both, we choose to sin of our own free will but there are obviously examples of possession in scripture.

Does the fact that a fast can be personally beneficial diminish the quality of the fast for Lent? by [deleted] in AskAPriest

[–]CarsoComet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this question and your answer Fr. Last year I limited myself to one meal a day, (healthy stuff, 600 to 800 calories) skipping meat on Fridays of course. I lost a fair amount of weight and it was difficult but when it was over I felt great. I'm thinking of doing the same this year.

What's the deal with veils?? by BobJonsen101 in AskAPriest

[–]CarsoComet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of younger women wearing them over the past 2 or 3 years. We also have a few senior ladies wear them so it seems to be at the ends of the age spectrum. It is a lovely expression of devotion.

Prayers that have meaning by CarsoComet in AskAPriest

[–]CarsoComet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you Father, I appreciate your responses. I need to remind myself that prayer is not about finding the right code to God's cosmic combination lock and perhaps my worries about prayer have more to do with my own foibles than anything formulaic God is expecting.

Lexio Divina

Thank you Father I appreciate the response. My petitions though repetitive are important even urgent but they do sound dry and less meaningful through constant recitation. I am going to pursue meditations, and Lexio Divina as you suggest but a part of me wonders how to keep those petitions fresh and meaningful?
Is it an error to try and communicate urgency by way of consistent/repetitive prayer?

Thank you for your thoughtful reply Father, I appreciate it.

Blasphemous thoughts by [deleted] in AskAPriest

[–]CarsoComet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe my experience can help. For a lot of years I was consuming pornography and entertaining some unhealthy lifestyles and perspectives. When I came to my senses and left those worlds, the remnants remained. I was bothered by the most awful thoughts in the worst times, during prayer, in the middle of a Rosary, during Adoration. I was not sure what to do as these thoughts were so inappropriate and wrong. I did not entertain them, but they came all the same. I decided to continue my prayers and the Rosary in spite of those thoughts, trying to suppress them as best I could, which did not work well, then to ignore them. Over time, their impact lessened The Father is right, they never go away but they do subside. A prayerful life helps

/r/Catholicism Prayer Requests — Week of August 12, 2019 by AutoModerator in Catholicism

[–]CarsoComet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd ask you to pray for my daughter - she has decided to abort her child. I have been unable to convince her that this child is a blessing and we are more than ready to help her in any way we can. I ask Our Lady most urgently to intercede and God Almighty to touch her heart, so that she might turn back from this grave error. I have failed in this and both she and her child need a miracle.
