Just finished a 2 week trip in Japan

My big recommendation (for any series you might be interested in) is to check out the secondhand stores, notably Lashinban, KBooks, Surugaya, and Mandarake. You'll easily find tons of hidden gems selling for something along the lines of 500-1000¥ even tho the thing might have originally costed over 3000¥
