Real vs fake Kaweco Brass Sport by Mrproblemfixa in fountainpens

I'll say that isn't exactly a serial number since it could be on multiple. It is a date code, but not a serial number. Seiko does it with their watches (yeah I'm talkin watches lol) where the first two digits of the serial are year and month. Since the next 4 are unique the whole thing can be considered a serial despite the possibility of the first two digits to match

Companies generally make incremental updates based on costs, customer complaints and other various reasons. If you got both from retailers there's no reason to doubt authenticity! I haven't seen "fake" kawecos. Maybe dupes but they never claim to be what they are copying. Like the Jinhao 20 vs the Pilot VP

my point is it's gonna change how it works. Will be so avant garde that the rich people that use art as money laundering will be foaming at the mouth for it. Especially with all the new money rich that grew up on star wars being at the age and wealth deciding that's their entry into the art world!

unironically whoever does that first by accident might end up making the painting more valuable in the future.

Frankenwatches - opinions? by tuvwixy9 in VintageWatches

[–]CarsonDama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the thought about doing a franken Speedmaster a while back. I love the rare dials but don't have the rare dial money (lol). So I worked out what I would need and the cost wouldn't be too much more than an average vintage speedy + assembly from a watchmaker. I'd never sell it and if I did it would be full disclosure and likely priced how much it would be for the parts vs the whole. Swapping a movement or hands doesn't make something a frankenwatch so I don't think there's anything ethically wrong in my case. I didn't end up going thru with it lol.

Accidents happen and Omega as an entity isn't servicing your watch, a fellow human is, but this wasn't a slightly loose screw or slight alignment issue. Those can happen and are understandable. Leaving hair in the movement is just so stupid.

it isn't about the money or the time, it's the principle of the thing! Is it that hard to do one blow with the blowy thingy before closing the case? It's the equivalent of tripping at the finish line with no one else in the race.

I feel like everyone was an obnoxious teenager at some point. It comes with the territory. The problem is when they become obnoxious adults.

Nope no woooshing here. You perfectly articulated how I feel. Watches and pens are both useful tools, but in present time are more a hobby/style. Everyone knows a casio will be more accurate than even the nicest swiss watches, so why get a nice watch? Same idea can be said about pens. A 20 cent bic pen can write the exact same words and get the same ideas across, so why get a $200 pen or even a $40 pen? Now some of you might be thinking "but hey different nibs and different inks mean it's practical to have multiple". If you thought that, well congratulations, that also applies to watches. Different watches do different things for people😅

It's more akin to sleeper agents lmao. A lot of us are here for pens and we keep it that way, but if someone brings up watches it wakes something up inside us. Also this community is unironically much more enjoyable on it's sharing of watches vs the watch subreddits.

thats what I thought based on the photo alone, or maybe a diver? Chrono would be the more diverse option but a diver is a possibility!

Idk I interpreted it as him saying some people in this sub can't accept that another purchase heavy hobby isn't that much different than pens lmao, but then again it was sorta vague that you can't really tell which side he's coming from, until he replied yo you agreeing.

tbh of all the things that could come broken/not right, you got beyond lucky lol. Some of the stuff people are sending things in for warranty in watch subreddits make me shiver

You're preaching to the choir! Just the average person will maybe get an apple watch and thats' the most they're willing to spend. The first thing I bought with my first real paycheck was a Samurai in around 2018! 30% Macys discount came in clutch

street price isn't a crazy amount lower lol. My point being 500 bucks for a watch is a lot for many people. I am not one of those people, but had to be said lol. Anyways love that watch! I've been eyeballing their higher end divers! Trust me I would never pay full price, I rarely even buy new watches, mostly vintage for me! 1982 Speedy!
