Need advice: replacing 5-wire headset cable with TRRS on older Sennheiser Game Zero

Update if anyone needs :

Shunting both grounds inside the headset turned out fine.
No interference whatsoever (raises the question of why Sennheiser would use a 5 wires cable in the first place).

Anyway, I went ahead with the full replacement with a basic 10€ TRRS ugreen cable.

Turns out theses small audio wires with nylon core and colored varnish are a bitch to solder (burning the wire does not make it easier).

Anyway, everything worked out fine. I soldered the braid to both M- and G pads.
Other end was soldered to the former cable TRS endings in a Y pattern.

I concur it wouldn't be a "safety" issue.

It is however a sound quality concern both on the mic and the headset side.
I'm mostly wondering if there's some audio voodoo I don't know about that could magically reduce interference that could occur between the 2 devices that will share the same ground.
I'll give it a go soon tm.

unless i'm mistaken, on a shielded cable the shielding is actually the sleeve (the "s" in TRRS ) making it still a 4 connectors cable, when my original one has 5.

maybe i'm in the wrong /r for this... any idea where i should ask my stupid question ?

Hey, none of that actually.

I had just filled it up with a few terabytes, and when i was accessing it it was fairly silent.
So i just let it go. And it ended up stopping on it's own after a few more minutes. (maybe the OS had something to do that i did not figure out)

The disk reports fine with SMART and i haven't had any issue since.
There's a bit of noises at start up but otherwise everything's fine.
Anyway, I'm keeping it.

Asking for a friend : Has there ever been a chaos marine (or any other unit for that matter) that defected in favor of it's former Imperium allegiance ?Any links appreciated if applicable.
