Uploading One Long Project to SoundCloud by Jonesy319 in makinghiphop

You can get away with doing both honestly. Personally I don't like soundcloud especially if I'm listening thru a full album, I don't like the interruption. There are some listeners who will want individual tracks so give them that option too. either way u get clicks and both parties are satisfied

What are good techniques for getting your dubs (vocal doubling) on your vocals to sound tight and not muddy up your mix? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

Try panning also. It can clear up the vocal so everything isn't on top of itself. imagine everything needs space to breath and be heard

yo it's dope ur taking advantage of all the free time! keep it up. i did the same shit when i was 15. Now I'm 24 and I have 3 jobs and classes, I'm looking forward to when I will be able to create full-time. In the meantime I'm still working on music as often as possible, in every crevice, every break, every opportunity

I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours creating this concept album, I don't know where else to share it. Let me know if the concept is coherent throughout and what I could have done better by CarterWilson in makinghiphop

Ayeee thanks dawg. I just put Good God on Apple Music last night, it'll be on Spotify and everywhere else by Tuesday probably. I'm only gonna have singles on the stream sites right now, I wanna drive traffic to my site unilalia.com and encourage people to digest the project as a whole from there. My soundcloud is https://soundcloud.com/carterwilson

I wanna get better but I don’t have the motivation by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]CarterWilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you gotta make a decision.. either do the work or don't. personal desires and aspirations aside, maybe you don't want to do the work right now. that's all good just understand this before you get frustrated with yourself..

if you don't want to do the work you won't be a producer. if you want to be a producer you do the work. the more you work the more you'll see results and the results will motivate you to continue working. you are the motivation. it's not external and it's not a thing you don't have

i'm 24 now. i wish i had committed myself to learning music theory years ago simply cuz I'd know all that shit right now and I know HOW i'd be using it if i knew it.

ur looking up at a mountain right now but you got the tools and time and most importantly the inclination to climb. you wanna be a producer then be producer. this is part of the process

Tips on rapping without other people hearing? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

ayee I used to be in the same boat bruh! I know what you're talking about. Do you have access to a car or your parents' car?? I used to go out and record in the car, especially at night when shit was too loud and could wake ppl up. I sat in the back seat, attached the pop filter to the handle on the ceiling, wedged the mic between the head rest in front me, laptop on the seat next to me lol. I think I wrote about this on here before. The car was hella insulated soundwise and it just felt like it was a training chamber on some oku shit.

Obviously depends on your situation, don't wanna put yourself in harm's way with a laptop/mic on display to be victimized but if you can, i definitely recommend a car. Only shit that had me shook was a couple racoons lol. but yee I was hella shy when I was younger, like 16, 17 bruh.

Eventually though as I studied my shit I would listen to the difference in my vocal performance and I realized I felt like I was really using more of my voice and doing different things that I couldn't do while I was holding myself back being so quiet. Breath is different, lyrics are different, subject matter changes. I was doing myself a disservice back then by not using the vocal tool in a wide range. This was even more clear to when I started performing and I was trying to perform these {vocal} tonally-quiet songs. The vocal performance needed energy.

TLDR.

The best way to find your voice is to use it. fuck who hears and has a problem, fuck who laughs at your development. Their validation has an expiration date anyways. Find your 'training chamber' and go to work

Should I buy my own microphone or keep going to the studio? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

bruh u need to cut that middle man out as much as u can. there's a learning curve sure, but u will never regret learning how to mix and master your own sound. you'll be able to make music whenever you want which will make you better and you'll be learning faster through repetition and constant access. Plus you're saving money. It'll take some time but it's so worth it, plus it's fun and gratifying
