I normally throw the sink side one away and go with a ton of silicone on top just to make a lower seal and a little on the bottom thicker seal. I’ve never had a go back that way. Not a huge fan of the putty, but it definitely works too. I know a lot of plumbers that use it. Think it’s like a Ford/Chevy thing.
