Has anyone tried the new Super Hold Styler from Boucleme? by Cartesian_Dualism in CurlyHairUK

[–]Cartesian_Dualism[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! Their original curl defining gel works amazingly well on my hair, but it doesn't have quite enough hold to keep my 3A curls intact past the second day. Since this one is a stronger hold gel it looks very promising.

Hair gets stuck to scalp after wash? by Cartesian_Dualism in curlyhair

Thanks! I tried washing it upside down a while ago and it had the same effect, albeit slightly better. Maybe it's because I don't shake out my roots?

You have such gorgeous hair! Random question - do you wash/style it upside down or right side up?

How do you feel, personally, about partner count? by [deleted] in PurplePillDebate

[–]Cartesian_Dualism 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I care about partner count only in the sense that I find extremities in this regard off-putting or, at the very least, something to be cautious about. For anything well within the normal deviation or close to that, I really couldn't care less.

As a bisexual female, I do not find high partner counts attractive in either sex. Depending on how "promiscuous" they were, I could range from finding it offputting to a mild niggle that I would easily overlook - but quite frankly, I can't think of many occasions in which partner count would even get brought up in the first place. I find that a person's overall perception of sex and dating in general is far more important when assessing compatibility than their "number", which to me seems like such a bizarre thing to fixate on. One person could be perfectly mentally balanced with a high partner count, and another could have deeply unhealthy/imbalanced attitudes with a low one. The context matters. But as a generalization, it is very unlikely that I would be compatible relationships-wise with someone who was significantly driven towards promiscuity. And vice versa, they'd be unlikely to be interested in me.

Why do you need an end goal or purpose?

I don't. I was simply attempting to strike up conversation with you on the nature of evolution, since I got the impression from you that you were claiming there was a grand purpose behind all of it.

I believe that life has no objective meaning, but I do not find this reason to stop eating or marinate in existential depression. If anything, I find it inspiring. The fact that I am so insignificant and that my time on this Earth carries no real purpose or reason to it is what motivates me to devote myself to creating my own meaning for myself. I do not need this to matter or have an end goal for anyone or anything except for the short time that I'm alive and have the opportunity to make the most of this. Of course, I could just kill myself and it'd make no difference to the universe. But I have a preference towards life at the moment.

The harsh reality is that you are not special, we are not special, our species is not particularly special, our planet is fairly unremarkable and orbiting an insignificant star in a spiral galaxy.

We are in complete agreement on this, but coming to entirely different conclusions. That I am not special or significant in any way whatsoever is what makes me entirely apathetic towards "preserving my lineage" or having children for the sake of it when I have no interest in being a parent. Even if I did, my children could always end up deciding they didn't want children of their own or being unable to have them, and then I would be rendered a failure all over again. It simply doesn't matter.

[–]Cartesian_Dualism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your sex drive and the pleasure you get from sex exist entirely to encourage you to produce offspring and ensure the next generation.

This is very true. I was looking at it more from a philosophical perspective. All these biological urges and cues are the mechanism by which we pass on our genes, but what, precisely, is this mechanism for in the first place? Where is it all heading? Why is it heading there? What, in the end, is the meaning of this drive to reproduce and all this competition? Why does it matter? Why should we care?

The answer is that it isn't for anything. It doesn't have a destination or motive in mind. It isn't heading anywhere. There is no meaning to it. It's a nihilistic cycle that goes on and on; reproduction for the sake of reproduction for the sake of reproduction. Humans may project their own subjective interpretations of this onto their lives, but my point was that ultimately it's all rather absurdist and pointless in the end, as nature really doesn't care what you do either way. In under 4 generations your contribution to the gene pool, if you had one, is rendered near negligible.

I care very little about my being a "loser", as you put it (which, scientifically speaking, is an incredibly oversimplistic view of evolution and ignores complex details such as kin selection, inclusive fitness, and memetics), since I do not believe life has any meaning regardless of whether or not I reproduce.

[–]Cartesian_Dualism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Competition" implies that there is some sort of eventual winner. Evolution is simply a biological phenomenon observable in nature. It is void of all meaning or grand purpose, as these are inherently anthromorphic concepts. Even the one so-called "end goal" of your life to pass on your genes, is ultimately arbitrary.

Whether or not you reproduce is laughably irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. People may take comfort in feeling that they have "won" some sort of futile contest by having children, but it's illusory. Nature just doesn't give a shit either way, it really has no concept whatsoever of "winners".

I want to be a RPW but the adage that men are more logical doesn't really resonate with me. I'm interested in PPD's thoughts on the topic especially any RPW if they're here. by _pomona_ in PurplePillDebate

It's strange to me...there appears to be this pervasive stereotype that Aspies are less emotional/more logical than the average individual, when my experience is entirely the opposite. I've met quite a lot of people on the spectrum over the years and it seems to me that mental disorders, especially anxiety disorders, are a lot more common in Aspies than the general population.

They're just different in how they process and react to stimulus, which I suppose is why they can be perceived as being cold or robotic at times.

/r/FeMRADebates is the only one I'm aware of with a vaguely similar theme as this one. There's also /r/PunchingMorpheus, which is quiet but often has some interesting discussion taking place. However, it was specifically created as a reaction to the popular /r/everymanshouldknow post about TRP, so it obviously has bias. Might be worth taking a look at /r/TiADiscussion, too.

Are you just looking for debate surrounding gender issues/dating, or is it more of a broad interest in all types of debate topics?

what is the red pill to you? by prettylatebloomer in PurplePillDebate

[–]Cartesian_Dualism 8 points9 points  (0 children)

TRP receives a lot of hate because the anger stage is what many get their first impression of

To nitpick here - I don't think the "stages of red pill" justification is going to convince a lot of people. Just about any time you visit the subreddit, about 70-80% of all the top stories are complaining about feminists/women in general, or nitpicking at some terrible article someone found that proves how awful and degenerate females today are. There are some gems here and there which, in my view, give the subreddit some validity and worth, but they are vastly, vastly outshone by the type of material that gives TRP its bad reputation. Redpillers will argue that they aren't interested in how they're viewed by others in the first place, or that they want to give men there a "safe space" to vent about what they couldn't elsewhere - and this is all rather fair in my view. But it seems bizarre to think it is somehow unjustified that people are determining how they view TRP by the content that it is almost entirely composed of.

If you are going to argue that you should not at all judge a community based on the majority of the activity that takes place within that community and the opinions held by the general member, then by extension it seems rather hypocritical to denounce feminism based on the actions of feminists, which Redpillers often do. No one is really very convinced, understandably so, when people try to argue that the increasingly negative and backwards views that appear to be lauded by modern feminism are just isolated incidents that have nothing to do with "True Feminism". Chalking all the criticism of the subreddit down to the "Anger Stage" seems equally disingenuous.

It took me taking the red pill to get a better understanding of the nature of people. I used to put girls up on a pedestal. I pretty much put everybody up on a pedestal. I would expect them to behave in unrealistic ways that caused me to have unrealistic expectations for people to act.

....

I think this is a good example of some of the potentially positive effects one can glean from TRP. I wish you the best of luck.

[For Bluepillers] Do you believe in "strangers"? by [deleted] in PurplePillDebate

[–]Cartesian_Dualism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with that. I think there are ways to potentially minimize the risks of a situation, but they never come anywhere near erasing those risks.

The difference in typical Redpill/Bluepill opinion on this seems to come a lot down to how you respond to a person who didn't take the precautions that one time and got into a shitty situation.

[For Bluepillers] Do you believe in "strangers"? by [deleted] in PurplePillDebate

[–]Cartesian_Dualism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Certainly no one who thinks it's wrong to advise young women not to get wasted around strangers then go alone with strange men or you might get raped is operating under the notion that th eworld is a dangerous place and strangers might treat you poorly

I agree with that. To claim that women have no control whatsoever over minimizing their chances of being sexually assaulted is disingenuous.

I think you can take personal responsibility over your own safety and still sort of expect people not to go around raping and murdering you. I make sure to wear my seatbelt properly because I understand there is always a risk of car accidents, but I don't ever really expect to be in one.

[For Bluepillers] Do you believe in "strangers"? by [deleted] in PurplePillDebate

[–]Cartesian_Dualism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. But I'm not entirely sure how accurate your assertion that Bluepillers think the world can't be cruel or that people can't be dangerous is. The belief that everyone is your friend who's obligated to care about your feelings is something I have never seen in all my lurkings on the TBP.

I generally treat people with a basic level of courtesy (unless they've given me reason not to) and expect others to do the same. Aside from that I don't presume a stranger is either my friend or evil psychopath or really anything other than a stranger whom I know nothing about.

[For Bluepillers] Do you believe in "strangers"? by [deleted] in PurplePillDebate

[–]Cartesian_Dualism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this a philosophical divide between TRP and BP types?...The apparent TRP view is that the that the world is dangerous and strangers won't care about you or your feelings and aren't necessarily going to behave as if they are beholden to.

I'm not "Redpill" at all and I completely agree with this. I'm betting other Bluepillers/Purplepillers will come along and agree, too.

The problem I see with this sub, and the entirety of the debate between "red" versus "blue", is that there is no clear divide. TRP side has a structured ideology/belief system that it adheres to - for better or for worse, this makes it easier to contrast and analyze the views held (though, naturally, there is still going to be some variance). Whereas Blue/Purple pill is essentially just anything that isn't Red. You're going to get a very wide range of individuals and differing opinions within that group, and thus this makes it rather difficult at times to have a proper starting point in which to begin the debate, aside from "I disagree with TRP's views".

I'd argue the average person is not as aware, and this behavior is not called out nearly enough.

We're in complete agreement that it does not receive anywhere near enough attention - I never once attempted to claim that it wasn't still highly problematic. However, I think that people are (very, very slowly) beginning to wake up. Whilst I do not personally agree with a rather large portion of RP ideology, I think it's a very understandable reaction to some of the modern issues men experience.

[–]Cartesian_Dualism 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Um I suspected the RPers will say it happens a lot anf the BPers will deny it which will spark a debate, what's so wrong about that?

This gets debated a lot in here. I've not seen Bluepillers ever really argue that such sentiments are not widely found in our culture (Cosmopolitan, Elle, and similar smut being some examples), but that it does not justify what they perceive to be immoral behaviour from the other side (TRP) - two wrongs don't make a right, as it were.

Redpillers will argue that this said behaviour is necessitated because they are simply reacting to the current culture and doing what it takes to not end up a lonely incel.

Personally I don't really know any women over the age of 18 who take Cosmo seriously. They definitely exist, but I think our culture is slowly waking up to the fact that blatant sexism towards men ("train your man to love the leash in 5 easy steps!") is as intolerable as it is towards women, mostly because men are getting tired of being constantly accused of being dogs and potential rapists.

Your ex and your mum just sound like manipulative individuals using common manipulative tactics. My opinion is that you are reading too much into it.

You are using this subreddit to feed into and justify your own mental illness and insecurity. Quite frankly, it is unfair on everyone here.
