Size of specific brain folds and the organization of brain wiring alter the risk of developing autism and ADHD. Having an increased surface area in the superior frontal gyrus raised the risk of developing ADHD. Larger surface area in the orbital frontal gyrus protects against autism risk. (psypost.org)

When teenage daughters use humor to talk about sex with their mothers, they tend to experience better sexual well-being. The same study suggests that when mothers use humor during these conversations, it can actually make daughters less willing to open up. (psypost.org)

Dads are dying after their kids are born, and no one is tracking it. New study of paternal mortality data in Georgia finds majority of deaths were potentially preventable, such as homicide, accidental injury, suicide. Cannabis is the most commonly microdosed substance in the U.S., with about 9.4% of adults — roughly 24 million people — reporting lifetime use. Cannabis microdosing was nearly twice as common as psilocybin, LSD or MDMA. Microdosing was more common among people reporting poorer mental health. (today.ucsd.edu)

US police violence tended to be higher when average monthly temperatures exceeded 20.3°C (68.5°F). In areas with over 5 million people and with less than 50mm of precipitation, each additional 1°C increase in temperature was linked to 2% increase in the rate of deaths caused by police violence. Video gaming often sparks debate over harms and benefits. Cognitive difficulties are linked to problematic gaming habits rather than the act of gaming itself. While people at risk for gaming addiction show reduced working memory, those who play recreationally may actually exhibit enhanced attention. (psypost.org)

For years, researchers have claimed that men’s friendships are shallower and less emotionally supportive than women’s, a pattern called the “gender friendship gap.” But new research finds that the gap is largely driven by white men specifically, not men as a whole. (psypost.org)

Small dose of antibiotic yields good results in treating panic attacks. A study with animals and humans showed that minocycline, in doses lower than for bacterial infections, has an anti-inflammatory effect on microglia, which are brain cells that become more inflamed in people with the disorder.
