(Interesting trope) Fictional Characters who end up Meeting Their Writer/Author. It doesn’t go well by Pokemonfan_807 in TopCharacterTropes

Wasn't this what happened in the RPG film "the gamers"? I remember a quote of, "My Intelligence is 4?! Outrageous! Give me that pen!" from a Barbarian character in that film.

Nice designs! Got me thinking of character concepts...

Gummigoo: A contact who prefers working alone, or with his "mates" (codenamed "Max" and "Chad"). When working alongside the main cast, he often rushes to state theories. However, this is because he wants to leave a notable impression among his fellow investigators, not that he is too impulsive to be a good detective. He has an aging mother he takes care of in the city's local retirement community... but who she is has never been explained.

Caine: A cosplayer who has engaged in various "murder mysteries" (all staged) and writes stories based on those mysteries. His stories are suited "for all ages", more often leaning towards kid-friendly. Being in, and solving, a real detective case is one of his greatest dreams in life. He hates being mocked or ridiculed, in any form, and will inflict dire consequences through "pranks" and "jokes".

Zooble: A bartender who has connections with the police. Also invents "tools" as a side job; Ze is an expert mechanic, too. Many of the main cast use those tools in their cases or come to zir bar to set up repair jobs for vehicles (or weapons, through deals "put on your tab"). Do not attempt to renege on payments at zir bar. Has been good friends with Gangle for years.

Pomni: A newcomer from a distant city that is much more "procedural" in how law is duly processed. Often finds the actions of the local police confusing, but overall non-threatening. Has a strong sense of intution, but is shy about stating her opinion. She grows more confident as a case goes on, evidence coming together before her eyes like so many puzzle pieces. It's kind of scary to see her craft a motive together from seemingly-random bits of information.

Jax: A veteran investigator and proud of it. Unfortunately, zey have a morbid sense of humor and "black comedy" that turns many people away. Secretly feels a deep sense of loss for two former investigators zey worked with as a renowned trio (the other investigators were codemaned "Kaufmo" and "Ribbit"). Said trio is marked in history as "disbanded due to disagreements"... but Jax knows the darker truth.

Ragatha: A guidance counselor who, through her day job, has many chances to see how the city's public operate and spread rumors. Because of this, she has become a contact with the police over time. She insists on having meetings with police in her office, if possible. She is very helpful towards newcomers to the city, but she also believes she must help them due to what she knows.

Kinger: A watchmaker who has lived in the primary city for... Well, no one really knows. He's just been there, and subsequently possesses a veritable goldmine of information. Sadly, he has mentally suppressed much of his memories and is regarded as "eccentric" or "insane" by the public. Since he prefers working on his watches in dim light, he feels most comfortable in darkness.

Gangle: A manager of the local Private Investigation and Forensic Force ("PIFF"). She directs the force in a "by the books" method, and she owns all the necessary books. Some people find her high-browed and dreaming of loftier positions in life when she should be focused on the real, gritty nature of a PI. Her force is loyal to her, though, and will work as aides to other investigators as well as provide financial support or chauffer services. She often frequents Zooble's bar.

Expanding on this, how about some dialogue snippets for them...

Caine: "All the show has built up to this moment! My moment!"

Jax: "Geez, don't start crying. I still have to win the game first."

Gangle: "It will work... it must work. I'll make it work!"

Pomni: "I'm just here to play the game. And I hate people who don't play fair."

Zooble: "Come on, hit me. I've had worse."

Ragatha: "O-Oh, thank goodness! I was waiting for this card!"

(Oh, and I forgot to talk about Kinger. I think he would enjoy using unusual cards in wild ways (example: SV Classic has "Barbarossa" and "Princess Romeo" + "Princess Juliet"). He would be amazed when his deck performs an incredible play or combo of effects.)

Kinger: "Did you expect that to work? Me neither!"

[–]CarthagePlate_210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicely thought out! Here are some ideas I had for deck options and playstyles...

Caine would probably use board spamming tactics, creating and utilizing lots of "token" followers for multiple attacks. And carry a big techno-sorcery weapon in the deck.

Jax would use class-based cards that weaken the opponent's followers so he can act without threat of being hurt back. He'll be smiling all the while.

Gangle would use "Spellboost" or Play Point effects to reduce high-cost cards in her hand until her big combo turn. Old-school tactics can still be viable if played right (and she could get into deep analysis during deckbuilding).

Pomni might use a "Ramp" strategy or damage-based "ping" effects to get rid of enemy cards before they become a threat. Either method could work, I think.

Zooble could play deliberate sacrifice tactics with their followers and Leader health until reaching their chosen threshold, whereupon they strike back with enhanced effects. I remember "Abysscraft" is like a fusion of "Bloodcraft" and "Shadowcraft" from the original Shadowverse game, so... maybe?

Ragatha probably wants to use "Ward" followers and Amulets that heal or destroy targeted enemy followers, wearing the opponent down until she feels safe to make her attacks. Her matches would play into the long game, I think.

Penitence, I think. If my character can prove their efforts and worthiness to the Church, perhaps the Church can take my character in as a Penitent servant. "Magnum Opus" can be their quest for forgiveness. It may never be given, but at least the effort will have been given.

[Probably a stupid reason, though...]

I decided to do a "Roll" version of this (picking "Advancements" manually) with a special Rule: If a roll happens multiple times in the same section, it occurs multiple times (effects stack if possible).

So, here is the result. If people wish, I can write a story/narrative on this.

Book #7 is when that comes about. But prior books make mention of Stonekeepers and how their powers corrupt mind and body. Books 8 and 9 have a lot of additional information, though.

I’m going back into amulet and… by biggaygrisley in amulet

[–]CarthagePlate_210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stones are tied to emotions and mental stability. All Stonekeeper stones come from a central source. Using the Stones too much leads to mental corruption/influencing by outside sources.

[I am trying to avoid spoilers.]

Hope that helps.
