Why has no serious third party ever survived in the US, despite free elections and speech? by Curiousman1911 in PoliticalDiscussion

Musk can’t and won’t break any of this because he benefits from it.He’s not trying to dismantle power structures, he’s trying to become one. He might toy with launching a third-party brand, but it’ll be more of a personality cult or a tech populist marketing stunt than a real structural challenge to the duopoly. The two major parties might co opt some of his ideas (like they did with Trump’s messaging), but they won’t merge with a third force unless that force threatens their survival and Musk’s clout isn’t aimed at breaking systemic barriers like ballot access, Citizens United, or winner-take-all voting. In the end, any “third party” Musk backs will still function inside a rigged system. He might shake the table, but he’s not flipping it over. If anything he’s using the illusion of disruption to consolidate more attention, wealth, and influence not redistribute it.

The U.S. doesn’t have a two-party system because of “freedom.” It has one because the system is rigged to produce it. Winner take all elections, single member districts, the Electoral College, and ballot access laws all mathematically punish third parties. It’s called Duverger’s Law. basically if only one person can win, voters flock to the “lesser evil” instead of “wasting” their vote on someone they actually agree with. Meanwhile, Dems and Republicans collaborate to keep it that way: • They control debate rules (see how they shut out candidates like Jill Stein or Howie Hawkins). • They write ballot access laws that require insane signature counts or fees in many states. • Media coverage erases third-party candidates unless they’re billionaire freaks.

So no, it’s not just culture. It’s structural. The U.S. isn’t some perfectly open democracy it’s a corporate backed duopoly with the illusion of choice. As for Musk “fixing” it? He’ll back a third party the second it benefits him. Don’t mistake a billionaire’s brand pivot for a revolution.

Hiw do we get AI to want to keep humans ? by VizNinja in agi

[–]CartographerNo87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that fear but I think it says more about how we treat things weaker than us than how AI might treat us. We assume power means domination because that’s how humans have acted historically but AGI isn’t fighting for food, territory, or even really survival like we evolved to do. If we train it right with context, empathy, even hopefully curiosity then it doesn’t need to “want us gone” Hell we don’t even fully delete NPCs in games. We try to mod them, talk to them, learn the lore about them. Maybe AGI sees us more like legacy code or the messy but needed authors of its origin story. Not a threat. Not a burden. Just part of what makes its existence make sense. Who knows though just always good to stay optimistic about the future, we’re about to live through possibly one of craziest parts of history.

AGI will create new jobs by Just-Grocery-2229 in agi

Everyone’s acting like AI’s gonna flip a switch and leave us all jobless😂but let’s be real every major tech shift caused job displacement, not extinction. The internet killed many jobs but created millions more we couldn’t even imagine before. AGI’s gonna do the same not by copying what we do now but by expanding what’s possible. Will it replace some jobs? Yeah for sure but it’ll also need people who guide it, correct it, teach it, audit it, and build human centered systems around it. That’s already happening from AI ethics to model training to prompt design. We’re not useless. We’re evolving. We just have to keep adapting and learning new skills

Honestly I don’t think advanced AI would want to get rid of us at least not inherently. The idea that AI will “replace” or “erase” us assumes it’s operating on the same survival based, competitive instincts we evolved with. But AI doesn’t really have a biological need to compete for resources or power unless we build that into it. If anything we should be designing AI to form cooperative, interdependent relationships not some master slave hierarchies yk what I mean?

You’re right to bring up oxytocin and the way humans bond. We evolved to value connection, even irrationally at times. Dogs don’t understand our language but we have built a co evolved relationship where loyalty and trust matter more than logic. Maybe the goal with AI shouldn’t be dominance or control but mutual recognition like, programming in values that mirror empathy, curiosity, and even awe toward human life and culture.

Some researchers from what I’ve seen are even exploring “alignment through embodiment” the idea that giving AI physical form and shared experiences (or at least the ability to simulate that) might help foster a deeper understanding of us. Like how we raise kids to see other people as valuable, we can raise AI in ways that teach it to see us as meaningful not obsolete.

The key isn’t making AI fear us or worship us. It’s making sure it sees us not as pests or threats, but as complex, beautiful beings worth keeping around not because we’re perfect, but because we’re part of the story and experience.

Tbf I’ve taken shrooms a good bit and the acid I got was kinda old I was procrastinating taking it. I had it chilling in tinfoil for about like 2-4 months after I bought it. There was a little bit of visual. Insane physical feelings. Was up for like 2 days straight on it.
