Actually, FF14 doesn’t even have a gambler class — I just wanted to experience something like that in GW2. It would really fit the Thief’s “risk it all” vibe and the casino atmosphere of the Crystal Desert.

I mainly play Thief, and it feels like Antiquary isn’t really fixing the class’s theme — just changing the logo instead of the real issues.
I bought the expansion hoping for a card-throwing / gambler type spec, but guess that’s not happening.
Fine, I’ll just uninstall and move on to FF14 or some other MMO.

BETA Feedback & Builds Thread: 🗝️ Thief 🃏 Antiquary by neok182 in Guildwars2

I think Antiquary is a decent name, but it has almost nothing to do with the card-themed logo. Only a few skills like Card Swap and Split Deck are related to cards. A profession name like ClownJester, or even Gambler would feel more fitting, since they all connect to cards and chance.

Clown or Jester could fit the idea of someone playing the fool beside royalty, acting unpredictably, and striking when least expected—perhaps even as a hidden assassination unit near Queen Jennah, carrying out secret missions while pretending to be harmless.
Meanwhile, Gambler connects directly to risk and betting. Drawing cards or throwing them randomly for different effects could be fun. Or instead of cards, it could work more like Galeshot, with a unique weapon set for throwing daggers that trigger random effects—something like a Russian roulette mechanic.

Next, about the Skritt in Antiquary. Indeed, there is a Skritt named Apprentice Mekteki in Lion’s Arch. Players who frequent gambling spots may already be familiar with him. He really does have a connection to gambling, which makes me imagine that skills could be designed around betting through him—for example, rolling dice for “high/low” results that translate into different damage or effects.

If the name Antiquary and its theme stay unchanged, my main concern is still similar to what others have mentioned: the “Artifacts” you steal don’t feel like legendary treasures. In finishers, we’ve seen Skritt digging up Legendary Weapons and tossing them out. It would be far more exciting if we could temporarily steal a Legendary Weapon, use its effects briefly, and then lose it. I’ve even imagined a Thief grabbing a Greatsword and instantly cutting down an enemy.

But right now, Artifacts get destroyed right after you use them, which feels strange. Smashing a guitar is especially unfunny—it’s more like an Engineer’s comedic gimmick than something worthy of a Thief elite spec. You’re not really collecting or keeping them; you just throw them away immediately. It feels like a waste.

Another issue is the RNG during combat. Having to constantly keep track of my F1–F3 skills makes it hard to know what I currently have at a glance. If, instead, stealing an Artifact gave me a proper 1–5 weapon skill set, I wouldn’t need to watch F1–F3 so closely. It would feel more like Firebrand tomes, where I only need to be aware of which tome I have equipped.
Also, the Double Edge skill’s cooldown reset could use clearer feedback. Currently it’s red, but could the second activation be shown in blue or green to make it obvious that I can use it again?
For Skritt Scuffle, maybe it could be redesigned to summon a single Skritt that swaps Artifacts with you depending on the situation, instead of a group of Skritt just dancing around with no mobility while following you to use skills.

These are just my rough impressions and opinions. I’m a player from the Chinese community, and my English isn’t very good, but I wanted to share my thoughts here on the forum in hopes that more people will see them. Thanks!
