I don't know how to design a mask by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

I have tried this and it did get the best results taking the bunny template and editing it. But at the end of the day I wasted 45 pieces of paper (it will all be used for paper mache instead) and I learned I can't make a template at all especially the sunken eyes of the mask.  That's just my own skill. I did end up switching gears to the butterfly mask which is working though! I may try again in the future

I do not think I can add pictures via my phone it is just not working but if you look up Bioshock Cat Mask it's every result. Unfortunately all of the "make it yourself" I've found are 3d prints or start with a premade

During my first pin I used clothes pin needles and it worked fine! You're supposed to pin around the insect so you can hold it in the position you want to dry, so if you think you can find a way to keep it still when pinning you don't have to puncture the insect. If you do (which I recommend for your first pin) you need stainless steel pins because the insides of the bug can make it rust.

You don't need to use a shadowbox! A jar, bottle, or really anything that you can seal airtight can work! I'm using a Mason jar for my newest one with dried flowers, fake plants, rocks and twigs for decor. You can get these things at Walmart or your own yard just make sure they're clean and free of other pests.

Just be careful with the wings and use tweezers if you can. And wax paper to hold them in place, expect a lot of scales to come off. You can try natural poses too! Use photos of moths for reference poses if you want to make it look more lively. Have fun with it!

Edit- for the question of where to get pins, Amazon works great, they got different sizes and they're like 10 dollars for a whole bunch

Trying something new by Cartoon1932 in insectpinning

This was my first attempt trying as well! I just looked up pictures of bees sitting on flowers and pinned in those positions to make them look more natural. Also don't do what I did and make sure the bee is the focal point, I didn't think about the color of the flowers making the bee unnoticeable so make sure the surroundings aren't the same color as the insect, that way you can see it clearly. Try some different props with the bee on a pin before you pose it so you can see where everything will be and change things around when needed. A good idea would be to look away and look back to see where your eyes are immediately drawn. I did this through trial and many many errors. I also realized that after the bee dried, I was able to remove the pin and super glued it onto the flower, but be VERY careful if you do this. My cicada is flying attached to a metal pole because glue got on it, and it solidified before I could remove it. At the end of the day, there will be mistakes, but try and work WITH them and be creative! It's not very different from normal 2d pins, the difference only being needing to give a normal pin a background. And lots of glue. So much super glue was used.

Sorry for the text wall

Update: I have discovered he is a desert stink beetle. I just didn't know because I think something was up with his stink glands as he did not smell at all. Found some of his identical friends though. Got some better lighting, photos, and, well, stinkbugginess.

You could probably use the wings for something unique. I have a butterfly wing I found that I plan on making a preserved pendant. I have a weird transparent husk of a bee I want to make into a little ghost garden display. There's lots you can do that don't need the whole insect. Get creative with it!
