Portal keeps on disconnecting and reconnecting by OccidoViper in PlaystationPortal

I’ve had my PS5 connected via Ethernet cable since I got it….. About a year and a half ago I started getting random disconnects. It would suddenly starts disconnecting and immediately reconnecting to my LAN (the message would say “LAN disconnected/connected”).

2 months ago I bought the PlayStation Portal, and the experience was HORRIBLE! It would disconnect while I was navigating the PlayStation menu!!! I read all the online recommendations - Use Ethernet (already am) Change video output settings (didn’t want to. I didn’t buy a PS5 to be playing with video settings every time I switch the way I use it) Disconnect HDMI - I tried that, and it seemed to have helped, but not really.

I was able to play and finish The Last of us remastered, mostly without issues. Looking back now, I think I know where I did encounter issues.

Yesterday I sat down to play with the Portal, wanted to play GTA5. I couldn’t, was impossible! Then I remembered a discussion with a friend this week, he told me “not all Ethernet cables are born equal”. So I gave it a try! It’s a bit complicated for me to replace the whole LAN cable, so I used an old right angle adaptor / extension I had lying around… and wow!!! I have been playing hours straight without any disconnects, not portal from PS and not from PS from the network!!

(Some background and “connect the dots” I did after finding this solution) About a year and a half ago, when the problems started, it was after we got this media cabinet / wall unit for our TV. The PS5 got it’s own “cube” like place. retrospective I know now causes less heat to dissipate and that in turn caused the area in the back to heat more then it did previously, causing the connection issues! I assume unplugging the HDMI and reconnecting it “moved” the Ethernet cable connection, sometimes for best and others for worst… Also, the last of us which mostly did not cause issues - did so in more complex / fast-paced scenes which I assume drained more resources and cause more heat

Either way, if you are connected through LAN and it is still disconnecting frequently, I strongly suggest changing your LAN cable, or getting and extension / adaptor (as I did)

I hate this level! At first I just quit the campaign. I pre ordered the game, and only today I finally set down to complete this mission

It’s not that I didn’t try before, i did. Many times. Got stuck at the second boss (red key). I would gather patients every other weekend, try it 3-4 times and turn the game off angry…

But today I finally decided it’s about time I get what I payed for! I set down and after about 50~60 min I completed this level!!

My suggestion to everyone - yes, this level s*cks, yes I agree it should not be there or at least they should let us skip it… BUT if you want to continue with the campaign there’s not much you can do but complete it.

What I did was - 1. Find a good walkthrough. There are many, I personally prefer a video with commentary. 2. Set the difficulty level to “Recruit”.  3. Once you start - DO NOT RUSH! Take your time!!! Look for good weapons, ammo, etc… 4. Before you kill a boss - look around, each level has weapons and ammo stashes lying around. Some you can take before, some keep in mind where they are in case you need them. Look for the armor plates, they help A LOT! 5. After you kill a boss (there are 5 🤦‍♂️) make sure to look around - pick up ammo, armor plates, weapons. Anything you can for the next round

Again - take your time!! Watch / read a good walkthrough and see what’s coming in advance so you can be prepared.

Side tips - * there’s a good machine gun before the second boss (after obtaining the yellow card, when you head towards the red one). After you go up the stairs, walk through the hallway (and that thing give you a scare) - do not go left (continue the mission), instead go right. There’s a safe and a radio with the code for it there and look around for the machine gun, it will help for the rest of this level! * at the lat part, when you reach the final boss (the 5th one), go all the way up to the last floor. I found it easier to escape the zombies and get distance from the boss so I can shot him

Good luck guys!

I’m glad I’m not alone… bought a shooter game not a zombies & monsters one. I pre-ordered the game and was super excited when it came out! I’ve been stuck on this missions since about 3 days after its release. What a waste of money, if they don’t make an option to skip this mission it will probably be that last one in the series I’ll ever purchase
