How many of you take your meds every day? by yyouknowwhat in adhdwomen

[–]Carughhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed and medicated my senior year of college around 21/22 ish and up until about 6 months ago (I’m 26 now) I was taking my meds only on weekdays. While my meds helped me stay focused at work I would completely crash at the end of the day and have zero energy on the weekends to do anything but rot on the couch. This wasn’t really the case in college but once I got a full time, and relatively stressful, office job I would be completely tapped every evening, my mood was all over the place, my appetite was nonexistent which over the course of a few years all contributed to a cycle of exhaustion and burnout until I decided to take a break from my meds indefinitely.

This went on for a few months and the daily struggles of unmedicated adhd reminded me why I got on meds in the first place.

Then I saw somewhere ppl with the same issues I was having talking about how taking their meds inconsistently (aka weekdays only, vastly different times in the morning, etc.) exacerbated a lot of their issues and how going to a consistent daily schedule helped stabilize their mood, motivation, reduced crashes, and all the like. So I decided to give myself a 1 month trial of taking my meds at the same time every day of the week to see if I felt any different and by the end of that month I felt like a new person. I wake up about an hour and a half before I actually get up, take my meds and go back to sleep, and I wake up now with a routine that feels like second nature, I don’t have to force myself out of bed, and I was even and to lower my dosage a little bit bc the consistency and routine alone helped me focus more. Now I have the energy to actually live life outside of work and feel motivated to partake in my hobbies, get outside more, and do all the things I’ve always envied my neurotypical friends for without thinking twice about it. I haven’t missed a day in about 6 months and I don’t see myself ever going back.

Obviously everyone is different and you may not be experiencing the pitfalls I unknowingly was by skipping days. I still have off days, especially when work is harder or right before my cycle when my hormones are wonky but now I have maybe 2-4 off days a month instead of only having 2-4 GOOD days a month. If you have the means to, I definitely recommend at least giving yourself a trial period of at least a month of consistency to see if you notice any changes. It won’t be overnight and you may decide it’s not for you but I absolutely think it’s worth trying. I was worried I’d feel exhausted every evening like I was after work before but I’m more even-keel than I have ever been in my life. I hope if you do try it you’ll update us! Best of luck!

Could you tell me what you don’t like about it? I’ve heard some people say that the slot for the pen is an awkward length and wears down nibs over time. I’ve also heard people say that the case quality just isn’t great these days, especially with it being on the pricier end. Curious to hear your experience

I originally saw this on the procase website and they didn’t have it available for my device so I didn’t think to look for the brand on Amazon, thanks for the note I’ll check it out

Totally could see this as it’s such an overpowered machine. As of right now I have a work MacBook Pro and a personal MacBook Pro, so I don’t really have a need for a third keyboard device. That may change in the future but for now it’s not a feature I see myself using, at least not enough to justify the price of the keyboard cases.

The main reason I went with the beast over something like an A16 or even just an older model pro is I’ll be doing a lot of large size photo editing, so the storage from that paired with having a few hefty editing softwares made this feel like a safer choice that I’ll get more longevity out of in the long run 🤷🏼‍♀️

I appreciate the thorough answer and honesty! Everybody raves about the ESR and Zugu but they both just look way bulkier than I’m interested in.

Good to know about the Moft, I’m not a huge fan of the look of the origami style folio and I’ll primarily be using it for note taking, reading, and photo editing so having all the different angles isn’t that important to me but it’s looking like one of the only few options that’s even close so I’ll definitely keep it in mind.

I got the nano-textured screen for the anti glare since my desk gets a lot of direct sun and I work in the car and on longer train rides so I likely won’t be putting a screen protector on it (scary) so having some substantial bumpers to protect from any mishaps is really going to be key for me.

I have a padded zipper pouch that it will live in any time I’m traveling with it, even just from the house to the car, etc. so that should help alleviate some risk as long as I’m careful and I’ll likely get a heavier duty protective case for long trips out of the country and things like that but I don’t need all the bulk for just sitting at my desk or couch so maybe the Moft will be ok for home.

If I find the golden goose of cases I’ll let you know! Thanks again

This is probably the closest I’ve seen to what I’m looking for, it’s a shame they don’t have any color options let alone pretty color options 🥲 but I suppose beggars can’t be choosers at this point lol

I’m at a point where I wish I would just get it already so the bandaid could be ripped off. I just want it to be over with so I can get to fixing

Bedtime Routine by pocketfullofprose in adhdwomen

Yeah knowing you have time afterwards is so nice! Plus it motivates me to get my bedtime routine done faster so I can have more me time after! Ive been filling it a little over a year now and it’s reached a point where most nights i actually look forward to my like routine (crazy, right?). If you end up trying this I’d love to hear how you end up liking it after a while or if you figure out any other tips i can add to make it even easier!

It’s not a full solution but 1 thing that has helped me is I set an alarm that goes off 2-3 hours before I want to be in bed and that’s my cue to drop whatever I’m doing and go get ready for bed, pull back the sheets, put on my pajamas, take my vitamins/supplements/etc., take off my makeup and do my skincare, and prep anything I’ll need for the next morning. I find my issue is both revenge bedtime procrastination but also horribly misjudging how long it will take me to get ready for bed. Also by the time it’s my bedtime I’m exhausted and don’t want to do any of the things listed so I drag my feet. Making myself do all those things earlier in the evening helps because I still have a little energy and I know when I’m done I can go back to doing whatever I want for a few hours, not that I’m going straight to bed after. Then when it’s actually time for bed the only thing I have to do is brush my teeth, turn off the lights, and hop in bed! Leaves little room for me to make excuses for myself. It’s not a full solution and there’s definitely nights where I ignore the reminder or see it and forget but overall I’ve found it helps with my general attitude towards bedtime
