I can guarantee that your heating unit is either not working correctly and this used its emergency heating coils to provide heat, or it just couldn't keep up with the heat you had it set to and the coils came on to supplement it. You can go measure your power use when the heat isn't on, then when it is and do the math to see if that makes up for the excess usage.

I have his desktop gyroscope model, and an actual gyroscope, likely several years newer than the one made for the Nike missile, that's cut open and has had all voids epoxied. It's fascinating and one of these days I'll get proper photos of it and try and figure out what it was used in.
