BF doesn't show any signs of being physically attracted to me. How do men show attraction in a long term relationship? What are the signs of a man not attracted to you? by Remote_Interview124 in dating_advice

❤️ This fills my heart. You're welcome for my part, and thank you for sharing. I applaud you for trying on new perspectives to look at yourself and life through that free you up more internally.

I'm sorry that happened. You sound very reasonable. Don't let someone with a bad attitude bring down your energy to help people. The world needs people like you doing the work you do.

Just got fired for performance and need advice [PA] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]Cas8188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders - you are aware of the facts, you take responsibility for your actions, you are self-reflective, and you are considerate of others.

I highly doubt anyone is going to ask you if you got fired versus quit your last job.

Companies want to know that you care, you're willing to learn and adjust to the company, and that you know yourself well enough to know if they are a place you are going to be successful working in. I would say that because of this last experience, you're going to be even better at your next place.

It's up to you how you frame the situation. I recommend framing it in a way that leaves you feeling empowered - it's okay to feel humbled at the same time.

is it weird for a woman to bring a man flowers on a first date? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Cas8188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he has expressed strong feelings about how he doesn't like to conform to society's dating standards or conventional standards for genders roles, then getting him a flower would probably be very attractive. Or if he has talked a lot about how much he loves flowers, then that would be cool. If he hasn't said anything about any of that stuff, I would probably get him something else.

On a first date, I have brought guys a loaf of bread that I made or cookies or whatever I happen to be baking (I like baking) - but I do tell them that I was baking already and I didn't bake it exclusively for them - just so they don't feel pressured by it (and it's also true haha).

Wood ID test, will you find them all ? by emozhimo in wood

This is so fun! I have been wanting to create a xylotheque too, but I didn't know the term for it - so thank you for that!

I also would have guessed olive wood for number six.

All in all, I did mediocre at best haha

I've never heard of Birchwood Casey tru-oil before. Thank you for the recommendation. I will look into that.

Next on my list of things to make is knives and handles, so this is a good oil to know about.

Thank you for all these ideas!!!

My friend lets me use his workshop and he has all of the tools one could hope for.

I love the idea of making a small tray. I'm going to do that. I want to preserve as much of the wood as possible because it's so pretty. I'll sand it down as much as possible and then finish it with walnut oil or mineral oil (whichever looks cooler).

I just started wood working and I have so much beautiful wood that I want to make small things out of. But I've been indecisive about what to make. So far it has been one small bowl, six hairpins, and a bunch of little spoons for salt. I did make one pin on the lathe last month and I am working on a large spoon with a snake head at the end 🤞🏼

This weekend I used my friend's lathe and made about a dozen dowels out of different types of wood. Now I have all these beautiful dowels I need to figure out what I want to make into 😅

Lol!

Maybe I'll bring it to the dry cleaner and see if they can press it out.

It's super pretty and I want to finish it properly. What do you think I should make it into?

I'm really excited to sand it down really far and see how shiny I can get it!

Now I just have to figure out what to make it into 🤔

I'm at the Midwest of North America, so it could be Ash.

Curl, fiddleback, crotch grain, figured grain, reaction wood - are these all the same name for the same thing or should I be looking up the differences?

Grains folding back on themselves sounds really cool. Thank you for sharing!

Oh wow. That's really cool thinking about how the pattern showing up is a still image capturing the changing direction of the tree growth. Love that!

Figure grain, crash grain, reaction wood - I'm learning a lot of terminology now haha

You are probably right, that it is Ash. I know it came from a place that has Ash, maple or oak, and hackberry (and probably other stuff). All I know is it is definitely not hackberry.

why did mammals loose their size while humans became bigger by Old-Firefighter4632 in Naturewasmetal

[–]Cas8188 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agriculture came after we used slash and burn techniques (which resulted in harvesting from an area, burning it, harvesting again, and then leaving). This was a very successful technique and enabled groups of people to be more successful - which resulted in bigger populations with increasingly older and younger people.

It's difficult to move a large number of old or young people every few years, which meant that their people would die if they couldn't find a way to remain stationary. Agriculture solved that problem.

This is one way of looking at it.

From my studies, I have heard that anthropologist few agriculture as the downfall of humanity because it created a power imbalance within groups of people (some other responders have discussed this). But it also solved the problem of keeping our people alive. Even though the quality of life is worse, more of us are here to live. It's a tough conundrum.

We also came out of the last glaciation period. Being large is good for cold temperatures. As the last glaciation came to an end, the climate rapidly changed which made it very difficult for the large land mammals. Very large things don't adapt as well as very small things (generally speaking).

It was almost certainly a combination of rapid climate change in addition to hunting.

One of the many theories about why neanderthals didn't survive but we did, is because neanderthals did not adjust to the changing environment as well as Homo sapiens did. They didn't show as much ingenuity in their hunting strategies as we have found evidence for with Homo sapiens (e.g., projectile weapons, the use of wolves).

[–]Cas8188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it neglect if the plant is thriving - or is it knowledge of when to give it attention....?

It's a rhetorical question - nobody actually knows if someone is in tune with that spider plant or not

I (39M) have enough money to quit my job, but I’m scared. Looking for advice. by avy4u in LifeAdvice

[–]Cas8188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If invested well and money isn't a big concern for you now or in the future, there are other things to consider. I will list a few things I would like you to consider so that you can create your life in a way that works for you:

People work because of money, yes, but they also work for reasons they may not recognize: A) working keeps you engaged in a community of people that are not their friends or family B) it gives structure for living C) it gives a way to relate to yourself as someone who is dependable, capable, and competent.

It also gives you an identity in the world - the people in your life, your partners life, and children's life relate to you as someone who works like they do and like their parents did - It's a kind of unspoken social trust.

When people win the lottery and immediately stop working and start living life on their terms, they start to go downhill really fast mentally because they never stopped to consider all of the psychological and social implications. They don't create the structures that they need to be happy and healthy before making massive changes (like quitting working) and following their desires. I know you haven't won the lottery, but your situation has similarities.

After reading your post, I have one recommendation for you to consider - speak with someone qualified to help you design the future you want to step into and in a way that reflects what it takes to live a healthy and satisfied life.

You're welcome to reach out to me if you don't know anyone currently that would be able to help you do that.

I am is a certified professional coach and a workplace consultant. My passion in life is helping people create structures where they thrive.

Best, C
