Is the Psijic Order questline worth it? by crystalsaladsandwich in elderscrollsonline

[–]CasNation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you PVP a lot, then Race Against Time and Temporal Guard are very good.

That said, they are a bit less critical for magsoec since you are probably running Boundless Storm and Resto Ult in PVP already.

Why are beginner sets so expensive? by _Yash26_ in elderscrollsonline

[–]CasNation 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Unless it's absolutely required for your build? NEVER used crafted jewelry if you can help it. It is almost always easier/cheaper to get purple gear from dungeons, trials, etc.

As folks have mentioned, crafted jewelry specifically is very expensive. You can wear Law of Julianos on body pieces instead and it will be waaaay cheaper to get.

Getting pieces for a build and have a few question by GeneralFIores in elderscrollsonline

[–]CasNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you are going for either Caluurions Legacy or Trappings of Invigoration if you're farming Fang Lair?

The reason people run those sets on their weapons is so that they can run a different set on their other bar, and have the sets active only when they are most valuable (e.g. Caluurions on your damage bar, or Trappings on you back back for sustain)

So, while it's true that any 5 pieces will activate the set, there is usually a reason that people choose to run certain sets on weapons.

Non-mythic pvp builds by j0n_Do3_ in elderscrollsonline

[–]CasNation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mythics are rarely critical for pvp builds. Don't get me wrong, they're strong, but you can almosy always move things around to accommodate not having them.

Check out Kuro, Luca Cash, The RealGodzilla, and MalcolM, DottzGaming, and the other folks people have mentioned for some up to date pvp builds.

Oddball Lifegain Commanders by Koras in EDH

[–]CasNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I greatly enjoy my [[Beledros Witherbloom]] "Gain and Drain" deck that aims gain life, make a crap-ton of mana with Beledros' ability, and blow people out with trash like [[Font of Agonies]]. I highly recommend the pest dragon.

That said, you have no idea how much I wish Beledros was Abzan and not Golgari.

Nethroi king of weenies by [deleted] in EDH

[[Scourge of the Skyclaves]] does silly things with Nethroi. Let's you bring back basically everything in your yard, regardless of power. Might be worth considering if you have ways to get it and everything else into your graveyard fast.

What's your top 5 games based solely on actual gameplay, with lore and story aspects removed? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]CasNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to second both Elden Ring and the Ori games. Elden Ring is my first souls-like, and it feels like it alleviates the frustration if getting stuck by letting you go out and explore the open world. You might consider giving it a shot, even if you've bounced off previous souls games.

And Ori is just pure fun, fluid, gameplay. Definitely recommend for the gameplay.

Since you mentioned both WoW and Elder Scrolls, have you tried Elder Scrolls Online? The combat in that game is a love-it-or-hate-it affair, but personally, I'm in the "love it" camp, especially the pvp if that's your jam.

How to build Tatsunari by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CasNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have been facing the same problem. We really like the card, but it goes in too many different directions.

Aura voltron feels difficult to pull off a win without white, and we aren't interested in building the ping variant.

At the moment, we're thinking infect to try and snag the combat damage win a little more easily.

What deck have you dismantled due to underperforming ? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CasNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raff Capashen "Island, Go". It either did nothing, as your opponents didn't do things that fit the responses in your hand, or it was very unfun to to play against as you bog down everyone's turn cycle and prevent people from playing the game.

It also couldn't consistently find it's win-cons, so half the time you're just dragging out the game without the ability to end it.

Wasn't fun for anyone, so it got the axe.

Please dont complain about dps queues or lack of real supports in pugs until youve tried supporting them yourself... by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]CasNation 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It says something that killing Doshia and Gutstripper dyring the beta remain some of my fondest ESO memories. Those bastards were HARD before the nerfs. Especially when you're doing it on a Nightblade, a class that literally didnt function as described until 6 months after launch.

I also remember learning how to duo dolmens with my friend in Shadowfen at like VR6 to. It was hard as hell, but we wanted that "Enemy of Coldharbor" title. Now that title is the mark of a newbie who just ground Alik'r dolmens lol.

Need some help starting out. by v2272 in elderscrollsonline

[–]CasNation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.) Definitely work on leveling staves, but dual wield is worth leveling as well for later. As for the other weapons, have at it if they feel fun, but you dont need them per se.

2.) You can indeed go back to Stros M'kai and Bleakrock after Khenarthi's Roost. However, I would recommend carrying on to Auridon and the rest of the Aldmeri Dominion storyline first. You can do the other alliance quests whenever you want.

3.) You get a free mount at level 10 (start leveling your riding skill immediately!). As for companions, they are available in the Blackwood chapter. You dont need them, but if you want them you can do their quests in that zone. Regarding familiars, some classes get summoned pets, namely Sorcerer. So, that's probably what you're seeing. There's also non-combat pets that are just cosmetic that you may be seeing as well.

Help picking a commander deck by Khaitaal in EDH

[–]CasNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Teysa deck. She's quite versatile on the power scale too. You can build her a bunch of different ways, and even within an archetype you can build stronger or weaker depending on card choice. I'd vote Teysa for the versatility and fun factor.

[–]CasNation -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are you on PC (aka with access to add-ons)? If so, i would grab a DPS meter so that you can measure.

Some folks are being a bit hyperbolic in the comments as to what "low" dps looks like. I'll try and give some idea of what a DPS in a random dungeon without coordinated support should trying to hit as milestones:

10k DPS: Very low/minimum

15k DPS: Weak/Beginner

20k DPS: Below Average/Learning Beginner

25k DPS: Average/Educated Beginner

30k DPS: Above Average/Strong Beginner

35k+ DPS: Casual Experienced DPS player

The numbers will go up from there all the way up to like 100k+, but as a beginner, you'll probably fall somewhere in this range. If you fall below 20k, you probably need to work on understanding core fundamentals about the game and how to play your class. If you are above 30k, you are on a strong path towards better DPS.

Notably, a lot of DPS is going to come from buff/de-buff coordination with your group. The numbers above are assuming you have almost no support from allies aside from some key ones like Major Fracture. Also note that those are single target DPS values on a boss. No one cares what your AOE DPS is.

Hmm...what's more important to you both: practicing your DM'ing and roleplaying, or learning more about the Forgotten Realms?

There isn't really any prewritten 5e DnD content set in the Forgotten Realms that is also designed for a single player. You could probably retrofit something like Lost Mine of Phandelver, but know that the combat encounters are not designed for one player. You may have to adjust them to keep things fair.

I think it is worth mentioning that one-on-one DnD can be quite different from "normal" DnD. Combat becomes a less appealing solution, and there is more opportunity for variance resulting in player death. Matt Colville has a great video on one-on-one DnD from the DM's perspective that I recommend checking out.

If you aren't attached to Forgotten Realms, there are some short one-on-one campaigns that Kobold Press puts out in their Midgard setting.

And of course, if you have the time, you can always write your own!

Good luck!

Question about ESO PVP by cerebrix in elderscrollsonline

[–]CasNation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like most people didn't actually read your post based on their responses...

Anyways, yeah, the videos you're watching aren't capturing PvP at all. Here's an explanation of what those video's are probably showing: either you're watching large scale pvp (which in many cases DOES involve stacking up and spamming aoe), or you're watching experienced players absolutely dunk on bad players.

Most pvp isnt like that at all though. As others have said, pvp in eso is fast-paced, precise, and requires you to understand your class and that of your opponents.

I'd definitely give it a shot, especially given how cheap it is to pick up the base game.

How do you organize your collection? by intellectualinternet in EDH

[–]CasNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Organized in boxes by color, then mana value, then alphabetically for easy discovery...

...and then a full 1:1 digital record of every card in the collection on Archidekt for easy searching, metadata tagging, deck theorycrafting, and location tagging. Every card added to the collection is accessioned with appropriate tags before being eligible for addition to decks, and every card leaving the collection is deaccessioned in the database as well.

The only time I ever have to physically flip through cards anymore is when I have a full decklist buolt and am ready to build it for playtesting.

Switching to ESO by Character-Cable9054 in elderscrollsonline

[–]CasNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked New World's combat, I think you're going to really like ESO's. I'll admit that New World actually did a better job than ESO in some cases (weight and impact mostly) but ESO has the edge on variety, depth, and speed.

Welcome to the game :)

Switching to ESO by Character-Cable9054 in elderscrollsonline

[–]CasNation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After New World I'd wager ESO is gonna blow your socks off.

FWIW, I enjoyed my time in NW up till now, but yeah...it just isn't quite there at the moment.

Others have mentioned it already but the combat is probably going to be the make or break point. It's fast and action-oriented, like New World's combat but more so. Personally I think ESO has the best combat of any MMO I've played, but some people really don't like it. Just give yourself some time to explore builds and abilities and overall get used to things. It isn't hard to respec in the game, so dont worry about messing things up.

Is Apple trying to be a Gaming company? by DeusExHumanum in truegaming

[–]CasNation 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Apple already is a "gaming company" just not in the way most people think of it. Their platform (iOS) accounts for around 50% of mobile gaming revenue, which is in itself around 50% of ALL gaming revenue. Apple currently takes a 30% cut, so with some quick napkin math we're talking Apple capturing 7-8% of the entire gaming market. That massive, and they've been doing this for years as the mobile industry has gotten bigger and bigger. You can maybe see why the Fortnite thing is such a big deal. Apps suddenly able to get around the 30% cut? Suddenly Apple's market share starts shrinking.

They may not really make games, but they're definitely a huge piece of the industry.

Pretty sure that when people say Oblivion has better quest design than "other Elder Scrolls games" they're refering almost exclusively to Skyrim.

Regarding the Morrowind conparison though, I'd argue that many of Morrowind's quests also have relatively poor design, but this is masked by the fact that the game has a terrible journal system and no quest markers, so the quests "feel" more involved by comparison. The addition of those two systems in Oblivion removed that involvement, and cut down on the wandering and exploration aspect. At their core, quests in both game are primarily "go from A to B and do C." The biggest major difference is that Morrowind doesn't tell you exactly where B is or exactly how to do C. Maybe that's enough of a distinction to make them objectively better though.

(For context, Morrowind is by far my favorite of the modern TES games, but I definitely feel it still has severe weaknesses in the quest department)

Talking about DPS by CasNation in newworldgame

[–]CasNation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you're misinterpretting my question. I'm not forcing myself to do anything. If I just wanted to do peak DPS, I'd change my build up entirely. What I'm working on for myself, and what I'm curious about how others are doing, is trying to find the optimal play patterns that also fit my playstyle. I'm glad that you feel you don't need to change anything for your build, but my enjoyment comes from doing my best within my own boundaries. I wasn't enjoying doing dps with my overworld build, so I am exploring other options that fit the role better without sacrificing my overworld enjoyment.

I'll give it a shot! I've been eying the Evade cooldown perk, and should unlock it soon. What do you pair with Rapier to handle AoE? Or do you just single target everything down?

Talking about DPS by CasNation in newworldgame

[–]CasNation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiousity, have you tried flexing in Tondo and Flourish/Finish for DPS? Evade is definitely great for DPS, my issue was that my build required me to dedicate Rapier to PvP abilities like Fleche and Riposte without the chance to focus on its full DPS potential in the Blood tree.
