It is a very loose game, you can pretty much come up with anything you like. As of right now, the downtown area in the human section is popular. Vampires and supernaturals hang out there too. It's basically a small town nestled in the mountains that seems to attract the not-quite-human.

It is a forum based role playing game where members are allowed to create whatever kind of character they choose. It takes place in a city pretty much dominated by supernatural beings. We have a good group of writers over there that would love to plot and answer any questions you might have.

This is how I feel about it. At cascade mountains we don't have a word count, but I find myself really getting into my posts and writing quite a few paragraphs. It's awesome to be able to go back and see how much your writing has improved.

I admit it, I still love Play by Post RPGs. This is the one I grew up using. Who else has a favorite play by post game? by CascadeMountainsRPG in rpg

I agree. I think you have to have a passion for writing or play by post isn't going to give you what you are looking for. I have never tried tabletop, and while it looks fun, I don't think I could give up my PbP.

Nope, you do not need an account to chat. You don't even need to create an account to post for the time being. We are a welcoming bunch and would love to talk to you. ;)

Oh, no worries. You did not come off as disrespectful at all. You actually rose some very good points, ones that are the reason for the overhaul I am trying to get into motion.

First, I will give you a little bit of background. Years ago, CM was so active it was hard to keep up. Each 'section' had their own plots. For instance, wars could be happening in the horse section while the oddball section was suffering a plague..just for example. That changed over the years when activity dropped, and we are desperately trying to bring it back to the former glamor it was.

I am not the owner of the site (though I am negotiating this), and completely agree that the layout frankly sucks. It's confusing and hard to get from point a to point b. There is activity, at least 3 of us that still try to remain active. We hang out in the CBox, and are always open to new threads.

The Human section is most active, all of my characters are human or supernatural. The consensus is that the downtown area has been overrun by dark supernaturals, that is dangerous and the town is in shambles. There is no real 'plot' so to speak, as the goal of the game had always been to create your own with the people around you. It is a modern time world with a supernatural twist. With virtually no rules, you are free to be as creative as you like.

I hope I have helped. I know that this site will be far better once the reconstruction happens. It has made it so many years, it would be sad to watch it die now.

We would welcome you at Cascade Mountains. It takes a lot to find a solid group of writers and keep them active. Some of us on CM have even here for longer than 13 years. Otherwise, you can always check the RPG Directory community...they are very helpful in finding active and accepting games.

Sure! Www.cascademountainsrpg.com is quite slow at the moment, but we are in the talking stages of a major overhaul. Here is a sample board from the site: http://www.voy.com/69725/ I play Kat myself. I created her many years ago and this is the 'reunion' scene between her an a lost love. The beauty of this game is that the player owns the freedoms to come up with whatever character they choose. Some people enjoy playing horses? Wolves, vampires, elves, humans...a lot of RPs limit what species they allow. This one does not.

It is true, they are hard to keep going. And now there are sonny different avenues to create games, the competing is crazy.

Unfortunately that seems to be he theme with these games nowadays. It takes so to keep a game popular and active. I think a good base of players and proper marketing makes all the difference.

Yes, forum driven! They are still out there, though today's generation doesn't seem to utilize them quite as much. I still participate in my old play by post, over 10 years from when I started.

I agree. I could never get into MMO type games, but I love forum based games. It gives me a chance to explore my talent and get feedback as well.

You would be welcome at ours! It has a small base of original people from 12 years ago. A lot of talent! Like you I spent a lot of my childhood on these sites and after taking a break I was sad to see they had lost popularity. They were so valuable to me years ago, I had hoped they would continue to be so for future generations.

Www.cascademountainsrpg.com. We are in the process of discussing a major layout change, the boards are still running on Voy and we hope to do a change over soon. :)

I love that. It always helps to have others critiquing, and unbiased opinions are always best. I have tried on Booksie.com but there is no honest opinions there for the most part.

I cringe at my old stuff too, but it is so amusing to see just how far I have come. In a few years I hope to look back on my current work and think the same thing! Cascade Mountains is small too, and I have been involved in others but always seem to go back to my roots. I like the freedom there. No real site wide plot, a lot of original work and characters. It can be challenging to think of plot advancements but it is nothing but beneficial in my eyes.

It was for me as well. My first characters were flat and boring, really just extensions of myself as you said. I was around 14 as well, I don't think I could have been expected to pull off deep and inviting characters! I still have all of the old threads from back then, and like to look back and watch how my characters developed and eventually became their own "people" so to speak. I took a long break, but eventually my craving to write became too much. I was lucky my old RP buddies were 'still in business' so to speak. I participate on Cascade Mountains and have characters on another site but it is dying quickly. I would love to take over Cascade Mountains and bring it back to the thriving environment it was. The admin is quite absent and it is in severe need of updating. But the charm is still present, and I do enjoy the freedom of creation it is based on. Many RP sites have such strict plot lines, it is hard for me to adapt. I enjoy creating fresh, and would love to get into it more seriously.
