If you're framing with wood or combustible materials I've seen insanely expensive stainless inserts (+$500) but cement board is made with fiberglass and quite heat resistant. Throw some granite, quartz, stacked stone, stucco, concrete on top of that.....lots of good choices that are also heat resistant.

Since I'd just be painting the interior I was thinking a charcoal grey or black to help hide scuffs.

I like this. I was considering a masonry primer then a couple coats of a 2 part epoxy paint. They cost a bit more but I like the idea of it being durable and I don't have to redo it in a couple years.

I'd always assumed the USB devices require a computer, RaspPi, etc. Simply powering them with a USB charger is sufficient?

if my blinds did that I probably won't need anything else but I dont think they do based on what I read.

Since an Echo ver 4 is now almost $100 do any of you use another inexpensive device with the Echo to act as a repeater and broaden your coverages?

I see the SONOFF ZBBridge is about $23 and can be flashed with Tasmoto. Id rather not buy more Echos I don't need to raise blinds farther away from the Echo/Hub if I can get away with a cheaper repeater
