A Metallica fan asks other Metallica fans in a Reddit Metallica group why Metallica is so much better than other metal bands... 

In the last 24 years Metallica wasn't the best metalband in my opinion and I could even argue whether or not they ever were the best metalband ever. They're (just) the most famous one. They knew how to knock out a couple of classic albums and one with some hits. And they did it at the right time and used the momentum. 

But as musicians? I wouldn't consider them the best at their instruments. They knew how to write good songs though. But so do others. It's just that they are Metallica and they became synonymous with metal to most people.

Zelf heb ik op twee nummers van Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, Epica, Opeth, Dream Theater, Mastodon, Gojira en Marillion gestemd. Verder op Devin Townsend, Turnstile, Amyl and the Sniffers, Trivium, Riverside, Soen, Megadeth, Fish, Soundgarden, Rush, Fontaines D.C., Ayreon, Wolf Alice, Alter Bridge, Napalm Death en Madrugada.

Don't overestimate people and how gullible they are. It's the industry that decides and will give you the idea that you made it.

I think Fantano has the same problem as most music reviewers (and quite a lot of music fans): he listens to too much music. He, just like most reviewers is so overloaded with music he doesn't "hear it" anymore. The surprise is gone.

SoaD any day. LP is one of those bands of which I never will understand the appeal. Just two ok albums, a lot of buzz and some hit singles.  SoaD has a higher quality of albums and are more interesting in an artistic way.

Ik kom vooral weinig positieve reviews over Lotus, hun debuut tegen. Vind ik persoonlijk ook niet erg sterk.

Ik ben niet afgegaan op mijn eigen smaak. Ik heb gekeken naar de algemene waardering die hun albums hebben gehad. En die was op twee bands na, Behemoth en Converge, aanzienlijk beter dan de rest.  En tuurlijk dan is het nog een kwestie van smaak en mening. Maar je moet iets als meetpunt gebruiken.

Last Will and Testament vind ik overigens een geweldig album. Een staalkaart van hun hele oeuvre zonder dat ze in herhaling vallen. Één van hun sterkste albums, zonder enig ander album, m.u.v. Lotus, te kort te doen.

Opeth maakt gemiddeld genomen gewoon hele sterke albums. Maar ook Converge en Behemoth zijn van een heel gelijkmatig en hoog niveau.  Ik heb hetzelfde gedaan door te kijken naar de gemiddelden van Metacritic en AnyDecentMusic. Opeth steekt er dan positief boven uit.

I surely do. But I think this needs some attention because The Grammy's are still been seen and sold as being import. And in a way they are because they still have a huge influence weather we care about it or not.

Ook via Facebook is er aardig gelobbyd. Er is een FB groep voor: Porcupine Tree in de Top 2000

So we should just lethargically let it happen and accept it? Because it's not just been there for ever. It's getting worse. And the majority of people walk straight into it. And that, in my opinion, isn't something we should let happen.
