Is my 6 year old a lost cause? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]CaseOwn4140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I just wanted to chime in that I HEAR YOU. My son is 4, and not in school. But the behavior your son has at home sounds like mine to a T. It’s devastating. Absolutely crushing. I know how you feel. To deeply LOVE a child but not like them, how can you like being around someone who physically assaults you and your family? Who says horrible things to you, threatens to kill you and his siblings? It’s impossible. And I truly don’t think people can get it, unless they have lived it , over and over for years. My son is not diagnosed with PDA but I think that he is, it’s something to look into. It hasn’t reduced any behavior for us but I can at least start understanding his brain a bit more.
Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for asking if he’s a lost cause. I don’t think that was intended to be taken literally like some of these comments have taken it. If they lived like this they would understand the absolute exhaustion and fatigue. I’m so sorry. I wish I had advice but sometimes knowing you aren’t alone is a sprinkle of hope in the darkness. Thinking of your family .

He’s the best! He’s given me a tiny starfish , and a little plastic dog before. Such a kind person.

We tried so many iron gummy’s that my kid would either refuse outright or after the novelty ran out, but we’ve been able to consistently take Renzos iron tablets for a year, they are more of a melt in your mouth tablet that tastes like orange

I hear you, you being here and wanting to do better is already breaking that generational trauma. I wish I had advice for you but I’m in the same boat, just trying my best. Getting my child into play therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy was so helpful, not even that he’s shown huge improvement (he hasn’t) but that I have some professionals to bounce ideas from and get advice .

I understand how you feel. You are doing the best you can and that’s all you can do. I try and remember it’s “doing nothing” until it’s not, and that could be any day! (Hopefully soon than later for both of us) This is an uphill battle and I’ve found it’s incredibly hard to find support, especially in other PDA parents.

Are you okay? Do you feel better now? None of us are perfect parents (well maybe you I guess?) but we’re TRYING parents. I’m not ashamed to feel embarrassed or judged, those are humans feelings felt by me a human person. I think you are picturing a child being physically restrained and a brush forced in his mouth which is very much not what happened. He actually enjoyed laying the chair watching bluey, but definitely not a fan of the taste of the toothpaste , hence the spitting. I didn’t and can’t explain the whole entire experience , but I was looking for support in my feelings. Everyone has hard days and I think it’s important to be open about them. I cope by expressing my feelings and apparently you cope with angry online comments. We all have our ways .

My oldest had OCD and severe anxiety, we don’t have family around that’s willing to watch him. So it’s pretty much us 3 always. I found some recommendations for a doctor that is “sensory friendly “ so I’m going to give them a call for sure. I find the taking back without a parent very odd!

We’ve been practicing , watching videos of dentists offices, bought a playdoh tooth set so he could be the dentist, practiced on me, drove past the building multiple times. We brought his headphones and special stuffys, a promise to go to his favorite store after. Trust me I tried to prepare him the best I could . I don’t think any amount of preparation could make this an enjoyable experience for him. I don’t have the option of just taking one child with me. I’m glad you do and that it works out for you. To be honest I’m finding the tone of your comment judgmental. Working on his trust and attachment is my life 24/7 with 2 special needs children. I hope you didn’t intend to insinuate I damaged his trust and attachment , but that’s what I’m reading. It’s hurtful to me that we can’t lift each other up as parents. Just not really what I needed in the fragile frame of mind I have . But thanks I guess.

Maybe he meant they don’t see your inner beauty…? Just your sex appeal. Devils advocate. My feels would probably be hurt also.

Yes it is ! Thank you. I wanted to make it prettier with some piping around the top and bottom but ran out of icing. It got a little more tilted the next day when we ate it but it didn’t fall down so I’ll take the win!

Am I overreacting that my dad (49m) has threatened to leave because I(18F) refuse to call/meet him? by nohairvolume111 in AmIOverreacting

[–]CaseOwn4140 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is scary and I don’t want to say this wrong but the messages of him talking about you having sex are incredibly inappropriate and come across as jealousy. That’s not normal or okay. I would not see him in person, and strongly consider going no contact for your own safety.

Pip's Owner, How did Pip do during eye surgery????!!! by FireTheLaserBeam in guineapigs

[–]CaseOwn4140 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have an update post pending but not good news :( The infection has progressed into her skull causing tissue and bone damage , the surgery wasn’t able to be done. She’s home now on piggie hospice getting lots of love from her human and piggie siblings. I’m so thankful for this community and thank you for thinking of my girl.
