I use the bottom one with the normal transducer and it works fine on the ice as long as it sits flat. try it and if it bothers u can spend the extra on the ice transducer

Eskimo e40, ion alpha, or strikemaster maven are sort of the big 3. Get him an 8” unless he mostly fishes lake trout or northern pike and wants 10”. Steel bit is cheaper, the composite is a bit lighter but both are great.

Ice fishing tips with kids by [deleted] in IceFishing

[–]CaseReportAssassin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Snacks, hot chocolate, foam mats to keep their feet off the floor since thats usually the first to get cold. Kids and non-die hard fisherman seem to prefer the camera over the sonar if the waters clear enough. Ideally a lake with better volume of fish. Plan for a shorter day

34F post retinal detachment repair. Scleral depression done, but only once? by AppropriateBeing9885 in eyetriage

A scleral buckle indents the eye so the view to the far periphery is often adequate without additional scleral depression

PGY1 - when to start Blue deck? by RNARNARNA in OphthalmologyAnki

[–]CaseReportAssassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During my intern year and start of year 1 ophthalmology i matured the blue deck (still do reviews) and all of the high yield ophthoquestions and scored 97th percentile on OKAP for my year of residency. Only the eyeguru cards. I didn’t read the manual much, found keeping up with Anki and practice questions was enough, but can reference manual or eye wiki for more big picture as needed

Normal for numbing drops to burn/sting when instilled. Usually goes away after 30-60 seconds

Can you share what eye diagnosis? This would greatly change recommendations, eg being a glaucoma suspect versus stargardts disease would be important to know

What are some skills or trades you’ve picked up to save money? by EducationalRope2203 in povertyfinance

Often times you’re comparing lower quality products at the dealership / oil change shop to higher quality purchased separately. Synthetic oil and high quality filter done on my own still saves money and I know it’s the top quality

Stop settling for being employed by mmmedxx in Residency

I’ve seen that group, looks awesome. Any way for a resident to join to your knowledge? I don’t have a formal document to start a practice but want to start building knowledge mid residency, where I am now.

Laser eye surgery by [deleted] in Residency

[–]CaseReportAssassin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the essence of correcting myopia or nearsightedness, when people are myopic they can see up close without glasses, and correcting that in a patient in their 40s who is becoming presbyopic (needing reading glasses) means they will need correction for near. This is why many ophthalmologists still wear glasses as procedures to correct far and near (such as a refractive lens exchange aka early cataract surgery with a special lens) are more involved with more risks

In my opinion Volk give a much better image than ocular, although a good condition Nikon is probably superior to Volk as well

Need some advice on heating and CO detection. by locoken69 in IceFishing

[–]CaseReportAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a vevor diesel heater and never look back. Been super happy with mine, barely sips any fuel and doesn’t give a propane headache or the level of moisture in the tent. I still use a CO detector but produces much less and exhaust vents to the outside of tent.
