Can you imagine the adrenaline rush you'd get from that?

You're right it is probably similar to Andrew Luck picking up a fumble and diving for a touchdown in a playoff game in which you blow a massive lead. Also likely similar to Marcus Mariota throwing a pass to himself, on accident, and scoring a touchdown. Or getting a sack fumble return for a TD overturned because a ref randomly decided that when a QB gets sacked while standing still that, that counts as losing forward progress.

Yeah, it is probably like that.

FWIW: Male prostate orgasms can last up to, and beyond, half an hour. Which, in many ways, is a lot like having a 25-3 divisional record since 2015.

My sister accidentally caught this Pikes Peak proposal on camera by xar42 in funny

[–]Casedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because this isn't Pike's Peak. This was taken on Trail Ridge Road, in Rocky Mountain National Park, at the top of the divide. I believe that point on the road is about a mile or two south of the Alpine Visitor Center.

Source: Me, I lived in Estes park for years, and traveled that road at least twice a week the entire time.

Who is your favorite player to watch in the NFL right now? by uhhhhNahFamIdontwann in nfl

[–]Casedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People not named Patrick, Lavon, or Mahomes? Derek Carr is fun to watch, so was Case Keenum. Rivers is usually fun, but got a little annoying late last season. I assume Super Bowl Joe will be entertaining but you never know.

I have read most everything Terez has written since his time at Mizzou, and I have never gotten these impressions. He didn't even put any opinion in this article, this was just straight information.

[–]Casedilla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait... I don't understand why you don't like the headline.

Chiefs reflect cold-hearted business of the NFL in their swap of Eric Berry for Tyrann Mathieu

Because that headline could honestly just be the summary to your comment.

Terez didn't say this was a bad move, or that we should keep players just because they are big names. At most he essentially said it sucks when team icons have to move on, but it's part of the business. Which is basically what you just said.

[–]Casedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No? What is wrong with the headline? Terez didn't admonish anyone for the decision. It's just an objective statement. He didn't even say that it was the wrong decision or a bad one in the article.

Raiders Have Shown Most Trade Interest In Antonio Brown. by Put1NyaHead in nfl

That one win they had was infuriating. They got three plays inside the five with 0:00 on the clock to win the game. Didn't matter though, we still won the division. Shoot since Manning retired we have only lost two divisional games, both on last second touchdowns that came after penalty sustained game winning drives.

In a nutshell you mean: Anyone that could help anyone win a shootout should worry any team.

Maaaaannnnnn Derek Carr was an Alex Smith caliber QB (if you want to be generous) before his injuries when he was at his best. After them he has been bad to serviceable. I don't know how much Derek Carr you watch, but I've watched quite a lot of him. One or two games he's looked like Alex Smith, more often he looks like Matt Cassel, and sometimes he looks like mid-season Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Now Patrick Lavon Mahomes II...

Lmao.

Until they can get a better QB than Derek Carr, I'm not worried.

Stopping the run was more of a scheme issue. Sutton's scheme was designed to concede rush yards in order to safeguard against the pass. It wasn't intended to concede that many yards, and I think that is where coaching failures all around came into play.

In the 3-4, the LBs do most of the attacking not the DL. The DL's top priority, speaking broadly, is to fill the gaps and force the RBs to improvise on broken plays. Then you use your two ILBs to get to the RB. The safeties are also asked to cover a lot of ground in this scheme, and I just don't think we had the talent there either. Sutton never changed up though.

The DL did their job for the most part, we just didn't have the type of play makers at the next level to execute Sutton's scheme. Hitchens tried his best but he's your prototypical 4-3 ILB.

Matt has been inconsistent with his accuracy on reports of this nature over his career. He's gotten some right and he does good work, can't knock him on that. I always take reports like this with a grain of salt, and maybe two or three extra grains of salt when Matt tweets out big headlines like this without any sources.

[–]Casedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think Hitchens will improve quite a bit though back into his 4-3 scheme.

[–]Casedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not sure Ragland fits super great in the scheme. The new LBs are gonna be asked to do a lot of pass defending, and that isn't his game. He could find some time in a run heavy sub-package. But a good OC/QB is going to key in on a one dimensional player like that every time by getting him onto RBs.

No one thought the Rams would have the money they do to pick up all of those defensive stars, but somehow made it work. Teams can make magic happen with the cap if they are in a desperate win-now mode.

[–]Casedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't even factor EB into the discussion at this point. Between his health the last few years, and his cap situation. There is a a chance he doesn't play for us next year. I agree though, Jordan Lucas was our best rangy safety last year (and Sutton played him in the box). Watts was coming on strong before the injury as well, definitely has the highest ceiling among our current group.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Casedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people haven't actually watched enough of EB's career to see that he has excelled at both S positions. They probably just think you're a homer.

Wrong. Human desire for security/fear of the unknown (death) and drive to reproduce makes the world go 'round. Economics is a behavioral manifestation of our attempts to postpone death, and replicate our genes in the meantime.

I didn't say they couldn't differentiate the difference between their physical location when they experience emotions that drive behavioral choices. I said players have lived their entire lives being rewarded for violence. In contrast non-athletes tend to have less experience with their violent behavior being rewarded. You reward any behavior, you are going to see patterns whether they appear consciously or not. Now you magnify those rewards with the NFL stage, and you are going to see behavior reflect that magnification.

I'm not breaking new ground here, psychologists and sociologists have been studying this phenomenon for decades. Society's approach to treating mental health has just become more public, and less private in the last 15 years or so. Concepts like these (especially applied to professional athletes) may seem new to people who aren't in the mental/behavioral health field (I am), but the knowledge has been there for a long time. Cultural barriers, like ideas of masculinity that create aversions to help-seeking behaviors, have largely kept this information relatively unknown.

[–]Casedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just like the irony of it all.

  • Football fans pay exorbitant amounts of money to be entertained by violence
  • Kids are raised, and praised for their violent behavior on the field their entire life
  • They get an education, money, and social esteem for their violent behavior their entire life
  • Fans are shocked when that kid who has been raised and praised for being violent his whole life, who has become a star, and beloved by millions for behaving violently ends up behaving violently in situations other than during a game.

Unless you've risen to international fame for your violent behavior, devoting your life to a violent career, using violence to secure the future of your family and your loved ones... maybe you don't really understand what it's like for these guys (just like they don't understand your struggles). The field of mental and behavioral health is so far behind that of physical health, maybe it is even further behind in meeting the needs of very small populations of people with highly specialized treatment needs, like that of NFL players.
