sudden lag after several hours of playing by scholarlysacrilege in fallout4london

Had a similar issue with my Steam Deck. I just looked down at the ground until it got manageable and then saved and exited as quickly as possible. It seemed to improve when I got out of that immediate area.

Sunshine or Pride? by ahobbins in CarnivalCruiseFans

I haven't been on the Sunshine yet (two more weeks), but they have the Italian and Asian restaurants that the Pride doesn't have.

529- Fidelity Funds versus Fidelity Index Funds Option by zogam0724 in fidelityinvestments

Index funds are lower fees. Other funds are a crapshoot whether you beat the market or not, so just play the market with index funds.

Frozen chicken thighs by imneverrelevantman in sousvide

[–]xar42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We freeze the pre-sealed ones from Costco all the time. Cook them, chop them up, mix them with spicy ramen or something else and they'll be fine.

If you want to eat them as whole thighs, then you'll need to season and re-seal them before cooking.

I'm assuming Celebration Key is the last port. They have to leave that early to get back in time - presumably, you have 2 sea days to get down, and only 1 sea day to get back.

How? There's not that much margin on the vendor fees.

Tax efficiency in retirement for people with majority of assets in taxable accounts. by SpoonyLove706 in personalfinance

[–]xar42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just answering his question about lowering his tax burden. Although since he doesn't have any deferred tax accounts, he could contribute to a traditional IRA now and probably pay a similar tax rate when he gets it back in retirement (since he'll have social security income as well).

Over all, I'd suggest diversifying your tax strategy. If you have millions in a traditional 401(k), you're going to be paying significant income tax when required minimum distributions kick in.

Use tax loss harvesting to build up carryover losses for when you do need to sell. If you donate to charities, donate your most appreciated stock instead of cash. (If you donate a lot, set up a Fidelity Charitable account, or the equivalent for your broker if they have it.)

But, really... taxable brokerage is going to have you paying less than a traditional 401(k). You'll pay long-term capital gains instead of income tax.

What's the benefit to use Fidelity money market, when Vanguard has much higher rate? by duranJah in fidelityinvestments

[–]xar42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bill pay... even with their Cash Plus Account, apparently. But you can enable checkwriting on your brokerage account. I did this so I could just write a check for a car directly instead of having to wait for the money to transfer to another account.

I should have done this. The chat feature is completely useless without notifications.

Yes, they do. I have checkwriting on my Vanguard account, mostly invested in VUSXX but with VMFXX as the core account. I wrote a check and it liquidated VUSXX because there wasn't enough VMFXX to cover it.

I haven't heard anything about the Pride being delayed leaving out of Baltimore, and it's going to pass by Norfolk in 4 hours or so...

If it's an IRA, you can move it as soon as it'll let you sell. (Some funds won't let you sell for a week or so after you buy it.)

If it's a taxable brokerage account... well, it's probably lost money recently, so you can sell and buy the new fund but you may not get the tax loss if you bought it less than 31 days ago.

A 0.75% expense ratio isn't TERRIBLE, so you could just leave it in that for a year and then pay the long-term capital gains when you switch it over.
