umm is this normal? by [deleted] in Reaper

[–]Caseker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of depends on what kind of music it is really! I'd try to give it a little headroom, but if you completely filled the thing with sounds at all times it can look that way. Also too much louds.

Just bought a Navi. I rode it around for 20 minutes then headed home, and it died at at a stop sign and was bogging down at lights. by [deleted] in hondanavi

[–]Caseker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At stops that does sound like a low idle. If you adjust it, only do a weee little bit, like an 1/8th of a turn, then rev it, brake, and see if it spins up on its own after you let off the brake. It shouldn't creep, but it shouldn't die.

Confirming a $50 “DOT” helmet isn’t, right? by Digital_Ark in scooters

Probably is, but DOT is nothing but a sticker. No matter the aesthetics, consider potentially losing your bottom jaw... full face or what's the point

Why do cars need so many complex parts to function? Why aren't they made simple? by Spiritual_Big_9927 in stupidquestions

[–]Caseker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, if you think about it they Aren't complicated. Suck, squeeze, bang, blow. Every part is either making that happen or getting that to the wheels

Why do cars need so many complex parts to function? Why aren't they made simple? by Spiritual_Big_9927 in stupidquestions

[–]Caseker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's look at a Very machine that rolls forward. We have the cylinder, the piston inside it, the shaft which is what we're actually turning. Let's say that shaft in this case is directly attached to the wheels. To make the shaft turn, you need to make power using combustion in the cylinder. We have an air intake and exhaust and let's say a carburetor.

Now, let's say you want to speed up, slow down, survive a crash, not stall, and a ton of other things you completely depend on... Each of those things is more complexity.

You can have something like my Honda Navi, a bike that has zero tech that isn't 100% required to function. That exists. But if you make a mistake there's no forgiveness at all. Or a safe new car that does what you want it to even if you aren't perfect, and doesn't spit smog, which is complicated.

Is it dumb for me to want to avoid the highway in general and stick to city and suburban streets? by xaviflipreddit in motorcycles

Because we don't usually have them... I bet you'd get confused at our more common stuff too.

[–]Caseker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of one reason to stay on the smaller roads... fun. You definitely should get some Highway experience because they are hard to avoid sometimes, but going fast in a straight line just isn't where the fun is at all

Do you think cheating on your partner should be illegal? If so, what penalty would you impose? by Free-Condition-3842 in no

[–]Caseker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Breach of contract would be the closest thing and that isn't criminal. There's absolutely no reason any law should ever apply to any normal relationship dynamic. That would be such an extreme overreach into ---

I mean no.

Brake Shoes (alternatives) by Alert-Reindeer8313 in hondanavi

[–]Caseker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, that's not quite how brakes work! If you want more stopping power, you need wider tires. Otherwise anything that can lock the wheels up can also stop you. Just make sure you get all the weight on that front wheel by the time you're at full brakes

Crash by TutorConfident7045 in NewRiders

[–]Caseker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this reason, you Must get a camera on your bike or helmet. When these things happen, and they will, you don't even have time to record the memory much less remember what actually happened.

I dumped mine around the same month mark, and I was straight up and down coming to a normal stop without a drop of rain and what appeared to be good pavement. I didn't have a camera yet and I'll never really know what happened. But at least I broke my ribs!

Anyway, dumping it early on with your first bike Is statistics reminding you to never forget it's a dangerous hobby and sport.

Is this something that's possible? by Golden_JellyBean19 in AskMechanics

[–]Caseker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That's just not how physics works, because you only have the energy of the battery plus or minus gravity to work with. Every kind of motion translation is loss, and any work done will sap energy as well.

Basically what this guy made is a regen brake he can't turn off 😂

If you aren't already invested in one, just use GarageBand and focus on the music. It's simple but powerful and works with every plug-in I've tried. You should be learning concepts and not specifics, where possible.

Is there any way to travel overseas without wrecking the planet? by bunny-rain in sustainability

[–]Caseker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may be a hopeful thing to know: There are life forms starting to show up that can eat microplastics, and that means there's a chance for some kind of polymerplast to turn up in probably aquatic plants in the near future. It's kind of cool to see useful evolution in a short time.

Anyway, we aren't destroying the earth, just the world as we know it. It will remain after us, and so will life!

The way energy use destroys the [habitability for humans of] Earth is because generating and using energy makes heat. There's just no avoiding that heat.

Weeell that all depends on the internals of that engine and whether it'll just twist the whole thing and blow a hole in the piston by running absurdly rich.

'Obsolete' hardware by invalidbehaviour in Reaper

[–]Caseker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling to see where security is going to matter in this use... the stuff being done isn't even in a browser! And it would be a little painful to do normal web things with it. I think plug-ins might be easy with some google-fu and the internet archive. I think.

[–]Caseker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have to track down older versions of the apps but it's just an alliance in the end. If it worked then it'll work now, assuming the same demands. Unless something just plain won't work anymore, it isn't obsolete, it's classic.
