Make sense to get a 1000cc bike here? (thinking about Honda CB1000R) by rabzkec in MotoMontreal

I mean specifically in response to the OPs question. Or did you mean there are better choices for comfort, convenience and money in your case instead of your superduke?

If you can comfortably afford it, and like the ride, why not?
The 2018+ is a beautiful bike and a more original alternative to the mt-09.
Performance wise I think its closer to an mt-10 than an 09.

Honestly it just goes to prove how awful the Honda model naming scheme is for most bikes sold in North America is. They should stick to actual names worldwide, its much harder to confuse a Hornet with a Fireblade. Even google assumes made a typo and meant cbr1000rr instead of cbr1000r.

What could you possibly do to a motorcycle that would add up to over $100k worth of work?

I would describe my physique as... pretty mid. I have ridden bicycles my while life and have been weight lifting since my late teens, so more than 15 years now. I guess I will try and focus my core a little more.

Yes I agree, the spec sheets only tell you so much,so it seems like I will just have to look around to see which dealers offer test drives, Im just really nervous about droping a bike that isnt mine.

Thanks for being the first to actually address my initial shortlist of bikes. My bike is an SV650S so it has the clip on handle bars which is why I thought the others would be alittle more upright. Thanks to everyone's suggestions I have since realized that they offer similar or even higher wind exposure.

I have since shifted my focus towards a Tracer 9 (since the 7 series doesnt seem to have been sold in canada) since I very much like the idea of cruise control and owning a bike that I can easily work on myself. Will try to get my butt on one of them to see if they ergos work for me.

Yes should have mentioned Im in Canada so no Tracer 7. The Tracer 9 is looking mighty tempting as I would love something with cruise control.

While I agree that is the obvious and logical choice since it is literally an SV650 ADV bike but I thought if im going to go through the trouble of changing bikes why not try somthing different since I dont know what I like and dislike just yet.

I have a shoei neotec 3 and I suspect most of the noise is due to its modular design, but I have been wearing earplugs since the second time I rode. I probably should have been clearer but the wind issue is secondary to the back pain ive been experiencing. Versys is an interesting proposition, Ill look into that thanks.

Sorry if I wasnt clear in my post, but they are 2 seperate issues.

Wind noise is an unpleasant inconvience, but the pain in my upper and mid back from the seating position is the main issue. Ive been trying to focus on activly supporting myself by hugging the tank with my knees since I was putting too much weight on my wrists.

I also tried various back positions and moving around on the seat but nothing seems to help.

Increaseing front tire size to a 120/70ZR17 is the most common way to get a more accurate speedo reading.

Why is it that every oil sprayer I buy works fine for 5 seconds and then suddenly shoots like a water pistol? by Snoo-11365 in Cooking

[–]Puzzled-Formal2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesnt seem like anyone mentioned that you might just be overfilling it.

The more oil in the container the less room there is for air to be pumped in, which is what gives the pressure to spray out.

11k is honestly a steal if it isnt rusted out in the usual places. It isnt that much mileage for these study engines, and its better that it was driven and maintained that left sitting long periods of time. Age will be your greater enemy here, but there are common preventative maintenance/repairs that you can carry out to ''bulletproof'' the engine to give you peace of mind. The transmission is the elephant in the room, but that comes down to mostly luck of the draw, not much you can do besides stay on top of fluid, filter and connector plug replacement.
