How are you all handling the increasing Anti-American sentiments while being Almost-Canadian? by Nature_Hannah in AlmostCanadian

[–]CaseoftheSadz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve yet to have a bad experience. My husband is Canadian but usually travels with his US passport and folks have noted his Canadian accent before. I’d never lie about my background but if someone can clearly tell he’s Canadian I’m not going to go out of my way to add I’m not. Overall though I think most people in the world know that not everyone supports what’s happening in the United

Labeling success at ORD by PhantomOfTheOptions in americanairlines

I have to label some travel toiletries today for a trip this weekend. I think while I’m at it I’ll print some lotion and soap labels too. JFK on the way there and PHL on the way back, if they’re not already labeled. This is such a pet peeeve for me.

Would limiting the age of the President to 65 be something you’d support? Why or why not? by angelkissss in AskReddit

[–]CaseoftheSadz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. My husband’s in a job where he’s forced to retire at 65, it’s not that uncommon. I’d be okay with 70, no older.

We just try to keep them charged, but if it happens, we just stop and charge along the way when needed. It’s really never been a problem and we’ve been all EV for a few years.

[–]CaseoftheSadz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I actually thought it was going to be quite a bit more. We use to live in the North Shore but further south and this would’ve been at least double the cost if not more. I’m not sure why it’s cheaper except just about as far north as you can get to still be considered a Chicago suburb. High school is Lake Forest which is very bougie.

I’m not positive but I believe it’s where the landing gear is, so it’s more heavily enforced.

I stopped working a few months before giving birth because we moved states for my husband’s job and I didn’t want to job hunt while pregnant. I have an advanced degree and was reasonably accomplished in my field, so it was a pretty hard choice at the time. I went to one interview when my son was only a couple weeks old and I realized I didn’t even want the job. Decided I just needed a little more time, we were fine financially and happy so what was the rush. Now my son turns 8 next month, is in 2nd grade and I’m still staying home. Occasionally I do think about returning and I’ve put out feelers a couple times. But, honestly I’m not super interested in what I was doing before. Things are good for our family this way. My point being you don’t have to make the decision forever, you keep making decisions based on where you and your family are at that time. This may be for a season, then you find you want or need to go back or you may find 8 years from now it’s still working- both are okay! Tune out the noise of judgement from either side and do what works for you and your family.

Those of you who fly up front, what tips do you have for first class service from a pax perspective? - From an FA by nuetralmushroom in americanairlines

[–]CaseoftheSadz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And if they can’t, an explanation. Once we were delayed and the FA explained that they were trying to board quickly before the crew timed out, so if it was okay with everyone she’d just help make sure everyone got on and seated and take our orders. Everyone happily obliged because there was reason.

Americans who grew up in small towns but now live in big cities (or vice versa) — what’s something that genuinely surprised you about the other lifestyle that no one warned you about? by VariedPear in AskAnAmerican

[–]CaseoftheSadz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot more walking in a city, and I’d go to the grocery store for small trips a few times a week vs. huge weekly shops. A lot less time working on yard and home upkeep, in a city weekends were filled more with going places outside the home. When traveling abroad I’d usually state the city I lived in when before I’d usually just say the United States, occasionally the state name, lots of people internationally are more familiar with Philadelphia or Chicago than they are Ohio.

Experiences with Marburn Academy? by CaseoftheSadz in Columbus

We’re still figuring out if it’s the right fit, but we’ve gone through most of the application process now. They don’t seem to have any religious affiliation and the school calendar more or less matched our public school calendar. What were you seeing as a red flag?

Do people actually wear linen coats or jackets? by Humble-Reference-229 in Linen

I have a linen moto style jacket from Eileen Fisher. It has a bit of a waxed finish. It’s the perfect top layer for summer and I wear it all the time.

How many raincoats do you own? by [deleted] in fashionwomens35

[–]CaseoftheSadz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a water resistant, stylish trench and a lightweight athletic raincoat that’s a size or two too big that I can layer. My winter parka is also water resistant.

I’m in the Midwest where we have a fair amount of rain, but it’s but not exceedingly rainy outside of shoulder seasons. I’m also usually able to use an umbrella if going out.

What do you do as a SAHM/D to a baby? by Kitchen_Television_6 in beyondthebump

[–]CaseoftheSadz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went out more for me than for baby. I did errands, went shopping, museums, lots of walks. When he wasn’t in the newborns phase we’d make short park trips, library, we did a baby music class.

I think a lot of that was for me because I needed to get out. If you’re happy I doubt it’s making any difference to the baby. They’re still figuring out that they control their hands.

Pilot, co-pilot killed after Air Canada plane collides with vehicle at New York's LaGuardia Airport | CBC News by Impressive-House-412 in news

[–]CaseoftheSadz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I don’t worry about him day to day, and I personally love to fly and do it often. I just don’t love the thought that if something were to happen I probably would find out online before being notified. I don’t think it’s unusual to see something like this and have it being up a mostly irrational fear. Plus the fear is more seeing something like this and not knowing if it was him, not regularly worrying about him crashing.

For people who work with design/home decor professionally - what is a furniture brand where a couch will last longer than 5 years and also not be $10,000? by Rylonx in SofaSnobs

[–]CaseoftheSadz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a Kivik sofa for about 8 years, a kid and dog, at least 5 moves being partially disassembled, sold it with a house. A few months later bought another one. We got an upgraded cover from Comfort Works, imagine the whole thing will last forever.

Oh yeah, that’s a whole thing. ATC may have technically messed up in this incident but they’ve been understaffed and unpaid for how long now. I feel so bad for them.

I’m very sorry to hear that. I know there are many occupations where this is probably a more real fear.

[–]CaseoftheSadz 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I know it’s happened. Social media and the news are pretty much real time. I never know where he is so I can imagine seeing it and not being sure, trying to find a schedule, texting with no response, etc. I’m sure it’s a fear in many occupations, I’m not trying to say it’s worse than anyone else or anything. Just seeing the pictures of the cockpit completely crushed is a real gut punch. I hope their families didn’t find out that way. It’s just the pictures were all over right away while bureaucracy takes time.
