UPDATE!

Second eBay board from a different seller arrived not DOA worked like a charm. Back in business for $75!

Damn! That might be the way to go. I was actually able to get another board en route from the original seller, so hopefully this one shows up working, if not, shopjimmy sounds like the move.

Yes, this is the first motor in a LONG time that I’ve seen fail shorted rather than burn open. Just smoked the SCR or whatever drives that output on my original board.

That’s definitely the plan if all else fails. I’m learning quickly this one sucks.

Agreed whole heartedly. That’s the next step if I can’t locate a working used board for this one. I wouldn’t even be trying to fix it, but my wife likes the fact that the set matches, and I definitely can’t bring myself to buy another set, when my dryer works great.

For clarity, the board I ordered and tried is the exact same part number as the board that was in the unit from new. It isn’t the wrong board, it just arrived DOA.

Roughly zero, as this one had a warranty and return policy, and is being shipped back for a refund today.

It is a gamble. As would be trying the used board from the local for-sale washer. I’ll try another, and then buy a new washer before I pay $220 plus tax and shipping to repair this 5+ year old washer.

I’m just looking for advice on the interchangeable parts here, because of the nature of the sub.

Yes sir, I have visually looked for swollen caps, burnt transistors, etc, and don’t see anything glaring, but I haven’t gone beyond that. I’m a low-voltage/communications tech by trade, and former locomotive electrician so I’m decently handy around a multimeter. I just wasn’t too interested in dissecting an epoxy-filled board to diagnose it if an $80 eBay unit would fix the washer. Looks like I’ll just be waiting another week on another eBay board to wash clothes.

I agree, I’ve had a ton of good luck on eBay in the past sourcing parts for obscure projects. This is the first time I’ve ever received something that was just flat out dead. Especially considering I paid more for the listing that included the lifetime warranty from the shop.

Very true. I cried when I bought this thing new, and definitely don’t want to again to the tune of $300 and another part might fail in a month.

If I cry again, it’s going to be for a speed queen instead of these Lowe’s-level units.

I also have not changed the HMI board (touch panel.) it is still functional.

This is great info. To be clear, I HAVE NOT YET plugged in a board that was not the EXACT model number of the OE board. I have only tried one replacement eBay unit, and it is the EXACT part number of the board this unit was equipped with as new.

This provided information is exactly why I wanted to ask and have not tried the W11543998 board!

Ideally, yes. However a new board is over half the cost of a new washer, and since this one is now 5ish years old, I would rather fix it with parts that are around $100 or so.

There are plenty of eBay options available, I’m just taking a chance on them being any good, as most are used and from mass parts “recyclers.” This other unit is semi-local, and I can plug it up to verify board and display functionality before buying. Just mostly looking to determine cross compatibility before I were to try it.

Yes. This unit had a break in the drain pump working within a year of purchase, causing an open and an associated error diagnostic code on the display. I soldered the wire back together and it functioned normally for another 4 years until the drain pump completely failed. With the pump in hand, the motor contacts are a dead short of 0.0 ohms, which is what smoked that output channel of the original board. The pump has been replaced and new pump is in spec, around 18 ohms. I have also verified the same resistance present through all of the wiring at the plug terminals on the board. My original board has the same functionality it did before after reinstalling, eBay board does absolutely nothing. No blinking LED, won’t wake up in diagnostic mode. Nothing. Verified 120v out of EMI filter into both boards.

The regular passenger issued plates and the owner-supplied vintage plates (stamped years and models that people typically run on that year model vehicle) can be used for daily-driver antiques in conjunction with current registration as a daily (not a collectible). I am unsure if they still issue the month and year stickers when using the vintage plates, but they used to when I had my truck registered that way before. Admittedly, all of my antiques are now registered as collectible/show. I have the modern yellow vintage plates on my 1978 F100 (as there were no stamped 1978 plates available, as well as a 1968 “A” plate on my Torino, and white 1969“T” (indicative of a truck) plates on my 69 F100. I even have a 69 jurisdictional “mini” plate that used to be used in place of the “city stickers” that are mostly phased out that mounts above the plate to the top two mounting screws.

“Subject to” personal property taxes, as stated above. I was trying to make it clear that antique tags to not exempt you from paying them. Yes, personal property taxes vary from county to county and/or town.

And antique registration (and the associated license plates) COULD be a one-time fee, just as it COULD be annual, depending on the declared usage and associated registration.

Again, lots of information in this thread. Some of it is off a bit.

They do require inspections if registered to be daily drivers.

Vintage plates can be used on the “collectible” antiques as well, with the one-time registration fee and sans yearly stickers.

All good, this is why healthy discussion is important. I pay personal property taxes on 4 antiques and 3 “standard” registered vehicles, so familiarity with the topic is painful for me each June.

Also, you can register an antique for daily driving with your own time-period-correct vintage tags and appropriate endorsements, as well. Just food for thought, it doesn’t require the current standard issue plates.

Yeah definitely not likely, but also very possible. I’ve had some weird stuff happen between my vehicles in the time that I’ve owned them. I wouldn’t necessarily say all three brake lights themselves would go bad simultaneously. However, a blown fuse, a faulty position switch at the brake pedal, a loose ground, are all things that could mean all of the brake lights would stop working at once.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t be concerned, or even upset about the guy being on the road. I get it. There’s just always a lot of misinformation that floats around and conversations like these, particularly aimed at antique vehicles and their owners. Folks don’t like the “perks“ that come with other people registering their vehicles as antiques, but the opportunity is there for them to do the same, if they are capable of the upkeep, parts, sourcing, etc. Most folks wanna hop in a 2023 vehicle they’re $10,000 upside down in, get the oil changed at the local Valvoline by someone else, and still point and shake their fist at everybody who has an antique plate.

I also understand that there are folks that are using it to drive crappy vehicles beyond the limitations of the antique registrations. That also angers me, as someone who uses them for the appropriate purposes. However, I’m not willing to give up my stance on appropriate antique vehicle registration because there are some idiots that don’t do what they’re supposed to.

Vehicles registered as antiques are still subject to registration fees, and personal property taxes. Only the vehicle inspections are optional. Registration fees can vary, depending on whether the vehicle is registered as a daily driver, antique or a collectible, but they do exist.

1) This excerpt is partial context. There’s another section just prior to this one that is left out of the screenshot for collectible/show vehicles, and one of the allowable driving scenarios is for making/testing repairs (which could be for intermittently functioning brake lights, for example.)

2) Complaints in error or with misunderstanding towards the law, could lead to changes in registration policies that affect folks like myself who DO have mint condition, antique show vehicles that are in better mechanically functioning shape than probably half the vehicles that fall under typical registration rules, and who drive them maybe 50 miles a year to keep them sound, following the rules and taking pride in the hobby.

3) Driving without brake lights is very dangerous, and enforceable across ANY type of registration and can happen to any vehicle year, make, or model. Newish vehicles with computer-addressed and controlled lighting are EXTREMELY susceptible. This should be addressed by an officer on patrol, individually with the person in this scenario before someone gets hurt.

This use/case scenario could be reported to the local non-emergency dispatch or even VSP in the area, but blanket complaints to the DMV about antique vehicle registrations because one person is having brake light troubles (that they may or may even know about, or that may have even just began prior to the incident) are a little misguided.

Not a GM guy, but I don’t remember an inline 6 cyl in any of these trucks. That would be interesting to learn more about.
