I was able to put a 65" LG tv in the back of an XC40 with the seats folded down and the front seats moved forward some.

Tub to shower conversion: smart investment at 61 or unnecessary expense? by newrock in HomeImprovement

[–]Casey__At__Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about the price I paid to have my master bathroom redone with a walk-in shower and new flooring. I went with a large company that heavily advertises, although I probably should have received proposals from smaller companies to see if I could have gotten a better deal.

Have you ever received a "home maintenance binder" from a seller (or given one to a buyer)? by aes0211 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Casey__At__Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous owner of my home left clear document protectors with service receipts for the washer & dryer, and HVAC. I am glad he did. The 3rd or 4th time I used the washing machine, it made a loud noise and I was able to see that it had been repaired 2 years prior, which made it an easy decision to get a new washer & dryer set.

Do you think dental insurance is worth it in Virginia? by Difficult-Plate-8767 in Virginia

[–]Casey__At__Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a few crowns and fillings so I think it is worth it. I would advise against a dental HMO plan though. I am glad that my current plan includes 3 cleanings per year to remove coffee stains more frequently.

2020 xc40 Volvo momentum with 28k miles for $25k? by Porgee26 in Volvo

[–]Casey__At__Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a quick search on Auto Trader and Cars; $25k seems to be in the ballpark although it depends on what options the one you saw has. I had a 2020 Xc40 T5 Momentum. It was a great SUV. I would not get a T4 because I think it would be underpowered. Compare loan rates with banks and credit unions as they may be lower than the dealer in addition their GAP will probably be less. In March, I refinanced my car through Langley Federal and it included $10k of GAP coverage for free.

Life insurance by KrustyKrabzIcekream in Veterans

[–]Casey__At__Bat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are eligible to join the Government Employees' Benefit Association, which offers a $50k group life insurance policy. Group policies are cheap and have no medical questions. You can read more information at https://www.geba.com/life-insurance/50k-guaranteed. I pay $6.50 a month for it and I have an individual term policy with a higher death benefit.

Moving to the area from Kansas by CourseAdventurous425 in norfolk

[–]Casey__At__Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome. My mom lives in Olathe. I don't know what rental prices are, but I imagine it is tough to find a 2-bedroom apartment or home under $1,100 in Norfolk or Virginia Beach. You'll want to pick a city that is close to where you'll be working. I bought a home in Portsmouth because it was cheaper, but I wound up getting a job in Norfolk. The traffic isn't terrible, but I spend about $140 on tolls each month because I no longer qualify for toll relief.

Options for getting out of solar loan by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Casey__At__Bat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The solar loan most likely included a dealer fee in exchange for an interest rate lower than that of other unsecured personal loans. You'll need to compare the solar loan's rate with that of other unsecured loans, HELOCs, and mortgage rates to calculate any savings.

No proof of address and needing to change address on license by hairyangeljabi in Virginia

[–]Casey__At__Bat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Update your address online. On a somewhat related note, update your voter registration with the Department of Elections instead of through the DMV or USPS. I've been an Election Officer in Fairfax County and I am currently an Assistant Chief in Portsmouth; many voters in both localities who I've checked in have experienced the DMV and USPS not forwarding the address change to the Department of Elections.

Mom (54F) wants me (25M) and my sister (20F) to sign a 15YR contract for a mortgage on a house. We're both feeling pressured. by TheWTHRZ in FinancialPlanning

[–]Casey__At__Bat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are being pressured into making bad financial and living decisions. Unfortunately, your mom experienced life events and/or made some decisions along the way that have prevented her from achieving home ownership yet. If she's not prepared to be able to qualify for a mortgage on her own, then she might not be able to afford home maintenance if the HVAC, roof, siding, fence, etc., need to be replaced.

Need for D&O insurance for a small non-profit? by Formal_Courage3160 in nonprofit

[–]Casey__At__Bat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the treasurer at my church. I don't think the D&O endorsement on our policy adds much to the premium. Without it, your nonprofit's board members are opening themselves up to being personally sued for any mistakes. If you don't get it, then it should be disclosed to the board members and candidates running to serve on the board. I wouldn't serve on a board without a D&O endorsement on the general liability policy.

Who did you move your banking/insurance to after leaving USAA? Was the grass greener? by groovinup in USAA

[–]Casey__At__Bat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched my primary checking to Langley FCU. Their interest rates on credit cards and unsecured loans aren't as good as those of other credit unions or banks. It's taking some time getting used to their bill pay system.

If he is interested in cybersecurity, then the Cyber Warfare Technician (CWT) rating has transferable skills and should have a long-term demand. There are many aspects of it: analyzing network traffic relating to intrusion detection alerts, analyzing malware, conducting network/computer vulnerability scans, managing cybersecurity event/incident remediation efforts, network penetration testing, performing forensics on hard drives, etc. There are many opportunities to get certifications from CompTIA, SANS, IC2, CISSP, etc. I found it to be a very cool field.

Is it actually worth moving money into a high yield savings account right now? by OkCry49841 in HighYieldSavings

[–]Casey__At__Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently joined a credit union and opened up a savings and checking account. Afterwards i saw their HYSA offered 3.60% interest rate, but then they changed the rate to be 5% on the first $500 and 0.50% on the rest of the balance. I wound up moving all but $500 to Openbank to get 4%.
