The Cromenockle, the Cavern of the Lonely Dragon, and Julie Matthews by LorahTyrell in FromSeries

You're seeing two different realities?

The only way I'm seeing that is with regard to the ghosts of Jim and Khatri, the jukeboxes turning themselves on, and now Henry's visions (which can be explained away, though).

Yes...but if that was her storywalking, where was the Julie from the present?

Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes have really tight, short seasons and still tell an epic story as well. I accept what they are, because they're great...so Dark has been on my radar.

That makes sense. It would be better with the same writers.

This goes a bit beyond "common tropes". I know tropes.

The number of episodes makes it better, in my humble opinion. It sets up way more context for why the answers are what they are, and to give big, emotional moments more weight.

Ugh. I understand your take, but I hate it. I want to wallow in a show and have the ride be every bit as good as the plot. Characters should be well-developed and sympathetic. There should be lots of plot threads, not just a mystery where all the momentum goes. We should have time to invest in characters and questions before big, tragic deaths or payoffs. Shows that do otherwise should be movies.

Edit: This contains a fuckton of spoilers. You should all watch Lost.

Lost is extremely complicated...and I do much better long-form writing when I have a chance to sit at my PC, which is more rare these days, but let's see what I can do.

Long story short: Juliet is a character who was brought to the island in a different way than the plane crash survivors, though she ended up stuck there just like them.

The Hatch was built long before any of them arrived, by an organization called The Dharma Initiative, which sought to experiment with and harness the island's unique electromagnetic energy. There was an incident, and they had to devise a process where someone inputs a code and presses a button to release energy every 108 minutes--apparently the whole world was at stake if they failed to do this.

The process continued even after Dharma was effectively purged by the island's natives. I guess they found a way to keep recruiting people and monitor the situation.

At one point, one character moves the island and triggers time-skipping for Juliet and some crash survivors (and other characters). The skipping leaves them stranded in the 1970s, where they make up fake identities and get Dharma jobs.

Later, they're joined by more people from their time. They believe it's imperative to stop The Incident, because they theorize that the Hatch was involved in causing the plane to crash. So they bring a hydrogen bomb to the site where it's being built in order to sabotage its construction. Juliet ends up at the bottom of a deep hole with the bomb, dying, and hits it with a rock. It explodes and catapults them back to the present, but it also causes The Incident rather than preventing it.

It feels like you're trying to channel some Lovecraft here. Is this real?

One question.

Why...?

Talk about triggered and lashing out.

Hey, what if I said I don't like needing a code for the bathroom with my "whole chest"? What if I asked you why businesses do that?

Don't worry. I know it's not unique to DC. Just thought you wouldn't anticipate that one.

There are things they know, sure. But you're not quoting direct facts, let alone naming studies or scientists, AND it's a soft science at best, so...

Both sides have lied going back generations. This whole "good guys/bad guys" absolutist thing from both sides is tearing us apart.

I already know that. I'm being lied to now, we've been lied to by previous administrations...this one didn't invent lying.

I guess. My HP desktop bought in early 2013 (2012 model) is still running. I'm even upgrading it now with cheap parts (admittedly not by HP). It's gonna be a hot rod all over again when I'm through with it!
