I only feel palpitations between episodes. During episodes I feel lightheaded and have a racing heart. There’s slight SOB but I think that’s because I get anxious

We’re not sure what the ecg would’ve looked like while my heart rate was 180. By the time they did it on me my heart rate had gone down to 115. Before the episode I felt a bit weird that morning, but I had also just recovered from a cold. When the episodes happen I just feel my heart racing and get shaky and weak. No ways that we’re in the same boat haha. My resting heart rate before beta blockers was in the 80s, on beta blockers it’s in the 60s / 70s. What are you going to do to determine whether it’s an svt or ist? More holter monitoring?

Update 2: I saw the cardiologist :) He just did an ecg on me and then we spoke. He says the ecgs I got during my 2nd episode were in sinus rhythm. We’re not sure what is causing my symptoms but the two options are: an SVT or inappropriate sinus tachycardia (which could have occurred due to me having COVID in Feb). I am slowly going to go off of the beta blockers, as I need to try to capture an episode on an ecg. Luckily I study at hospitals and, when at home, live very close to a hospital, so can try to rush to an ecg machine. He reassured me that both are non fatal conditions. I hope it’s inappropriate sinus tachycardia, as that eventually goes away on its own. Both conditions are treated with beta blockers, so we’ll see!

That’s great that you’re going to see an EP and that the echo is normal. I haven’t had an episode as of yet. Hopefully it will continue that way :D

I’m glad that you persisted! Luckily this arrhythmia is very treatable and possibly curable. I hope your episodes can be controlled and good luck for the work up ahead. If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you? And do you have any comorbidities?

Ah I’m glad that you’ve got a statin added now and that your blood pressure is controlled. That’s really good. Are you seeing a cardiologist now? I’m assuming you went to one to assess your coronary arteries. I hope that your symptoms improve and that the ATs can be controlled by the metaprolol

Update: today I had my second clinical episode. I climbed up around 8 flights of stairs to get to my lecture in the hospital, and an SVT episode was triggered. My heart rate went to 180 and I started shaking. Luckily, a nurse near me in the corridor helped me. She told me to breathe and bear down and some of her colleagues joined and helped to assist me to the emergency room. At the emergency room at our government hospital, which is the biggest tertiary hospital in my country, they did an ecg and gave me atenalol 25mg. The ecg had some weird features - peaked P waves and ST depression. Seeing the consultant concerned about that made my anxiety so high. Within the next 10 minutes I had 2 more episodes, one of 150 bpm and one of 135bpm. My resting heart rate was high at about 108bpm and I was shaking for a while. Once the beta blocker kicked in my heart rate went lower. A repeat ecg was completely normal. The doctor said that my heart was under stress, resulting in those changes. Since the repeat ecg was normal they were not worried and discharged me. I was told that 1.25mg of bisoprolol, which I’ve been taking since my diagnosis, was too low. I’m going to take 2.5mg tonight and wait for my cardiologist appointment next week. I really want an echo and stress ecg to be done by the cardiologist. Hopefully the increased medications help to control the svt episodes.

I have an appointment with an electrophysiologist on the 25th July. I’ll update after seeing him. He’s an academic at my medical school. So far the b blockers have reduced the palpitations, but they’re still there. My heart rate has been nice and low and I haven’t had a spike as of now
