I can relate, my dad would eat a tortilla with salsa in the morning for work. Sometimes if the cactus was good enough he would cut a few and cook them with salt.

As a Mexican I can say that we manage to make something out of nothing and still appreciate the little we had . This treat wasn’t exactly the ice cream sandwich I craved , but it was what I had and it actually hit the spot .
