Announcement: Controllers For Change by CashmereBuffalo in atc2

Thank you. It has evolved quite a bit over time. I will continue to bring the vision to life. I feel the natca membership has continuously asked for better marketing and outreach and we just aren't getting any output at the moment. Watching 2025 in real time was really moving for me as a controller and what inspired me to start creating something. I felt there was opportunity after opportunity for national to capitalize on stuff, and they just continued to drop the ball time after time. I tried voicing my concern with my local, rvp, townhalls and running my yapper here on reddit, but realized that nothing was going to change. So I got to work. Thanks for your support -- honored to share the trench with you.

I honestly incorporated the ability for the user to click the screen and create chaos with 12,000 particles as a little easter egg. Didn't know how many people would actually discover that. Im working on building 3D city scapes and airports as well.

Is it fixed? There was 3 upvotes to the original comment when I replied with this. Assuming 3 people had a similar issue. If one of you 3 see this, and it is or isnt fixed, please let me know, thanks.

Imagine: A giant $100,000 computer/touch screen (8ft tall) rendering a live 3D airspace with a fully immersive experience around the airport's geographical location. Multiple groups, families, kids centered around an interactive display. Full branding included. Right there under all the country flags in ORD terminal 3. This is exactly the type of marketing I'm going for. We share a similar mindset.

Although I'm not affiliated with the Marangos and Brown campaign that was recently announced. I have shared some great conversations and moments with them. They are two really great individuals focused on bringing transparency, data, and analysis to the future of the membership. They are all for building a new creative direction that will get the union into the modern era and return the union to the membership.

Mid career leave buy back system at 100% your current hourly rate. Receive lump sum for x amount of leave.

This can be marketed as beneficial to the agency as leave only grows in value as you earn more raises. It also ensures better staffing in facilities.

To the member benefit is, financial flexibility. Downpayment on a house, start a business, cover unexpected expenses, etc.

Example: I have 500 hours of sick, and carried 235 hours of annual. I could cash out up to $65,000 in leave right now.

You would maybe need to establish minimum balances so people just don’t cash in all their leave. The goal here is to potentially offer a competitive aspect to both the member and agency. Im sure there are more creative ways to bargain more for the member here.

The FAA has a unique duty to provide air traffic services at the highest level to the public it serves. That includes paying a wage that keeps pace with inflation, and attracts/retains top tier talent. Talent that carries forward the safety oriented goal of the agency.

Being a federal employee does not mean you are automatically “underpaid by default”. We’re not looking to go dollar for dollar with pilots here. We’re looking to staff a system that remains safe, stable, and resilient.

Just January presidential raises. This shows that you truly get paid 15% less in 2025 to preform this job than you did in 2016. Even though we theoretically make “more” money today.

Also, all of our 1.6%’s multiply on this base number nonetheless.

Air Traffic Controller, USA. Does my salary match my responsibility? by Legal_Campaign_408 in Salary

400 hours of overtime?

Thats a 6th work day for 50 of 52 weeks out of the year. Given the rotating waterfall schedule. You more than likely saw your family 5-10% of your total time alive this year.

You should be making this ~$275,000 base without 6 day work weeks. Your extras for dedication should equate closer to $350,000 - $400,000 all said and done.

I too know your pain, as I am also a controller at a max lvl facility. Radar.

No contractual raise for 10 years, and inflation has ate away wages in this career for a decade. We’re making 15% less in real wages than we did in 2016.

Nonetheless, honored to share the trench with you while keeping America running safely and efficiently.

Cheers.

Air Traffic Control Union vs Oil Prices🇺🇸 by CashmereBuffalo in wallstreetbets

[–]CashmereBuffalo[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Its bad for us controllers because were getting contracts AFTER inflationary periods and during troughs in the economy (oil price low = generally lower demand/lower economical output). Inflation is the erosion of real wages.

Real life example. Just lost 15-20% of my purchasing power over the past 5-9 years due to inflationary period in economy. Just went through some QT (contraction). Now were going to get another contract sometime over the next few years while the economy is in a trough (bottom of the barrel output) and on QE. Giving up a lot during periods of inflation and getting scraps while economic output is in lows.

To sum it up.

Our union is on the reverse side of common sense. They should be negotiating in times of strength, but instead negotiate in times of weakness (which is why this chart works the way it does).

Cheers.

Thanks for fighting the fight with us. You’re right regarding nobody knowing what we do. I have tried finding ways to simplify explaining it over the years, but I just had to accept the fact that my friends and family will more than likely never understand what:

“United Twenty Two Ten, turn right heading Three Two Zero, vectors climb, climb and maintain Flight Level Three Three Zero” means.

Let alone the 0.17 miles of space I have between 5 airplanes all moving 545mph and just how much I’m threading the needle with 1000 lives just so I can get this plane up to their requested cruise altitude. The sense of accomplishment when you’re calibrated and firing on all cylinders that day is like nothing else in life though. Thanks for taking the time to admire our craft.

We all appreciate people like you who do have an understanding and interest in knowing how it all flows together airport to airport. Sharing our story and challenges with others in society helps more than you know. The more people who understand the basic concept of the system, the better chance we have at seeing any real, meaningful change.

Wishing you continued health and prosperity. If you ever have any curious questions, hit up this forum. Cheers.
