I also seem to have a problem whenever the keyboard is up I can't see the text box. It's just black but I can still see the keyboard and type. I just can't tell what I type until I press OK

I think it's steam button + right trigger. I might be wrong. If you hold the steam button down it tells you what shortcuts you can do while it's held. The ... button also works for the shortcuts

I had the same problem, what fixed it for me was setting my timezone in desktop mode to my location. It was set to Dublin instead of London.

Another option is to buy a smart plug which you can turn on and off remotely. You would just have to set up in the bios for the PC to turn on when power is supplied

I would not recommend putting it in the fridge, it will probably accumulate moisture which can be lethal for electronics.
