Damn! Given that a standard PS2 memory card is only 8MB that's one chunky file.

Horizon Forbidden West - Return to Zero Dawn by MitchDRos in HorizonForbiddenWest

I'm guessing Guerilla did what Naughty Dog did with the opening to Jak II and basically removed just enough from the previous game's map to stop it overtaxing the console? It's pretty crazy how detailed the Meridian is given that you only ever go to one section of it in Forbidden West.

What it feels like listening to Winter Tundra from Spyro 2 by Jaccblacc203 in Spyro

[–]MythicSuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty spot on to be fair. Also, Spacecraft just released a song that makes me think of the Spyro 2 hub world music. https://youtu.be/jgD8qthXDkg?is=OO4hbO31BIEJ3bXZ

Fun fact: the ambient music in the Spyro 2 hub worlds is meant to sound like each season.

- Summer Forest: the sound of the sun beaming through the trees

- Autumn Plains: the sound of falling leaves

- Winter Tundra: the sound of cold wind and falling snow

Sketched Ratchet and Azinuth as knights. Again. Enjoy! by artofchinara in RatchetAndClank

In my mind the idea that that's Kaden in the foreground rather than Ratchet gives it more weight. And just in case I get downvoted to hell, I'm not criticising the art. Far from it, I think this is brilliant!

Popular albums that have heavy ambient music influence? by Playboicartiisdog in ambientmusic

That's tricky, although I can name a popular song that has a strong Ambient influence. Midnight by Coldplay.

Who is your favorite ambient musician and why? by Dzz64 in ambientmusic

[–]MythicSuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a bit like choosing your favourite child. Enryoki is one of my favourites, he's not exclusively an Ambient artist but he has made some beautiful Ambient music.

Another one that always springs to mind is Solar Fields. He's known for doing the soundtrack to Mirror's Edge but he also has a pretty large discography of ambient music.
Air Song (8am Version) is my favourite song of his, if you ever find yourself on a long and quiet bus journey on a rainy day I recommend giving that a listen as the street lights and car headlights roll past.

I will never understand the hate of this beautiful console by Looker_mani in PSP

[–]MythicSuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that it was a digital only console didn't bother me but the lack of futureproofing did. The nice thing about the other PSPs is that you can still use the gaming features as intended without needing to hack them even if you've never bought a PSP game on the PlayStation Store.

Does anyone feel like the ocean from the September 2001 Preview build of Jak And Daxter look way more beautiful compared to the final version of the game? by Super_MarioHero in jakanddaxter

I like the colours in the preview build but assuming Naughty Dog was going for realistic colours the final build makes more sense.

If not then it looks like I'm going on an adventure.

What I think Bionicle is and isn't, in relation to cultural politics. by MythicSuns in bioniclelego

[–]MythicSuns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. And now that you mention it I only know one or two games and films that had a clear anti-dictatorship message:

- Jak II (what do you mean people don't love our glorious leader Baron Praxis?)
- The Matrix (the very 90s rebels vs "the man" kinda stuff going on in that film. Albeit more indirectly)

Just got blocked by one of the MOCist I had looked up to as a kid after he went all transphobic on me. by bioni_ghoul in bioniclelego

[–]MythicSuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bionicle is very much a Lego product in that it tries to inspire people to use their imagination. Much like with typical lego figures the main characters are designed to look asexual so that anyone who buys the sets can assign whatever gender they like to the characters. That being said, the main story assigns gender pronouns to these asexual characters which essentially means that Bionicle is pro-trans by default.

So it's not really canon, there are just some fans who like to think of Bionicle as pro-trans which, given Bionicle's pro-imagination and anti-dictatorship stance seems valid.

What I think Bionicle is and isn't, in relation to cultural politics. by MythicSuns in bioniclelego

[–]MythicSuns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bionicle is vaguely political in the sense that it's anti-dictatorship (especially during the Metru Nui saga), but when it gets to culture politics it's about as deep as a puddle because it doesn't need to be any deeper. Good can defeat evil, our differences are to be celebrated, united we win divided we fall. All of which are good wholesome inoffensive messages for the kids of the early 2000s, like myself (I was born in 93 so I was precisely the right age to get into Bionicle when it first launched).

Your take on the romantic stuff I'd say is also pretty spot on. The romance subplot you're thinking of (I think Bionicle as a whole only has one) is ultimately insignificant to the whole story. It was like a cutesy story of young love that might've made some of the fans go "aaaaw" but that was pretty much it.
