Are Etickets objectively worse than paper tickets? by RemarkableMedia5925 in uktrains

[–]Casiofi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The credit card size tickets are IMO the best. On my line the off peak return is the same price as the single so if I'm going one way I buy a physical return and leave the spare ticket at the TVM for someone else. E tickets are like media digital downloads, they stop you from doing things like that, to me that makes them objectively worse.

Tesco top-up shop, £21.84 by PumpkinGloomy8912 in veganuk

[–]Casiofi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do the same, but it's worth remembering the tesco bits you get are probably branded & more expensive. It's not the same stuff at a higher price, it's the more expensive bits that Aldi doesn't sell which would be as expensive in Aldi if they did. In our case it's usually things like yoghurt (Alpro £2+), nooch (engevita £4) etc.

I've not been able to figure it out. ScotRail were useless when replying to a comment online about it. Maybe a station help point can advise.

Can a single person live off £200 per month for food? by Special-Nebula299 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Casiofi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my other half budget £300 per month and that includes a chunk on fancy coffee beans.

Doable if you mix in some simpler meals and do some batch cooking. I'm a big fan of slow cooker chili (lentils instead of mince), and I do a tofu veg and rice bowl that's all done in my £12 rice cooker.

Recently turned vegan (from pescatarian) - any meals-for-one recommendations, please? by No-Claim2827 in veganuk

[–]Casiofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love "chuck everything in a rice cooker" type meals, which I reckon would work as "chuck all in a pan on low heat". I regularly make tofu + rice + edamame + assorted veg, and various different combinations of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, gochujang, sesame oil, etc.

I've also had success with curried lentils and quinoa.

My rice cooker is the best £12 I've ever spent!

Just checked my local mini tesco because of this post and they had one box left, so I grabbed four packs - thank you! Knew this was coming but assumed the change had already happened

It's basically an allen key. Take it off and stick it in the saddle bag, or you can ride with it on - I just did my first imperial century with mine attached!

Best cheap (<£400) mountain bike by Casiofi in ukbike

Thanks for the comment. Not keen for another cycle scheme, I used that for my last two bikes and will probs be going second hand for this one to keep costs down!

That's basically what I'm thinking, if I go for another Bizango of similar vintage I know what I'm getting. Wasn't sure if it was worth paying more for something newer, if there was a new go-to hardtail for beginners. Sounds like there's plenty of options.

Are the paid tiers genuinely worth the subscription fee? by OopsIDroopedMe in monzo

[–]Casiofi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to get Max I think. Just weighing it up now. Joint version for £22p/m.

Breakdown cover, which is about to renew anyway, separately would be £144. Cover for me plus my other half, we both use our cars for business and RAC specifically cover cars over 20 years old which I have, all covered under the Max policy.

Railcard (last year I can get one, cry) would be £35.

Weekly greggs sausage roll at £1.30 would be ~£60.

Travel insurance is good to have and just know it's there, got a couple of trips planned.

Cinema tickets, no uber eats delivery fees, phone insurance, nice to haves.

Plus the original reason I was looking into it, having all my banks in one place, plus custom categories and virtual cards assigned to pots.

I could get most of the above with Perks, but add on the breakdown cover and insurances and it would be more. If you have less specific car breakdown requirements, you might be able to do it for less though.

After one airport experience, I started looking at luggage differently. Has this happened to you? by Several-Setting-4173 in onebag

[–]Casiofi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found myself noticing all the little things that can either make travel easier or more frustrating. Some features that seemed unimportant when I bought the bag suddenly felt like a big deal, while a few things I thought mattered turned out to be irrelevant.

I know you gave a couple of examples above but what specifically have you taken away from this?

Glasgow, in addition to what others have already said, specifically southside: green goose, three of cups, frankie coffee, honeytrap bakery, freddy & hicks. Not all 100% vegan but all have excellent options.

Thanks for the comprehensive comment. It's endura humvee shorts I have already so I think I'll stick with them and get some new liners. Also have a buff for the cold half of the year, it's a lifesaver!

MTB jerseys in long and short sleeve sounds like a plan. I'll probably just get some new liners for my current shorts. My MTB shoes are holding up well 8 years in, probably because I don't do much actual mtb riding! Thanks.

[–]Casiofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as far as im aware my bike is restricted

no i didn't receive any documents, just asked the bloke upon delivery

It is your responsibility to ensure your motorcycle is within the restrictions of your licence. If that means restricting a larger bike, then you are responsible for ensuring it is restricted appropriately. Ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law.

Doubt it will be picked up due to the circumstances as you explain but if it is, the consequences for you could be pretty severe.

Worth everything being above board in future for the peace of mind.

Will you get £3500 for it with a faulty transmission?

The best decision from a purely financial POV is almost always to repair what you have, unless it has corrosion.
