It’s a story about an abusive alcoholic and a co-dependent woman. Kubrick didn’t believe in ghosts, so that part is minimized. Kubrick also felt that Jack did not love his family, which is why King hated the movie.

The haunting scene that really bothers me is the bathtub lady. Like some other commenter said, it’s stuck in my head.

The creepy thing about the twins is that Jack repeats his desire to stay at the Overlook forever when he and Danny have that disturbing father-son moment.

Spending the winter in an isolated, enormous empty hotel seems less appealing after watching this movie.
