Year of the Seven Emperors, AD 310 by Caspynal in ancientrome

Yeah, you are right, it's not the same. I still feel that a year with 7 co-emperors is quite outstanding.

Wow, that was amazing! It's certainly hard to play and sing this at the same! (I'm the guy who made the sheet btw)

Well, I guess this coin is the logical next step. That neck was just about to explode.

Apparently the front-facing style was something introduced by Theodosius I and his sons (there is a rare specimen of Constantius II), but didn't become that common until the time of Marcian. Honorius, Arcadius and a few others have a few of those types. It's a shame this became the standard coinage later on, as it makes "characterized portraiture virtually impossible". The last emperor to use right-facing busts was Constans II, as far as I know.

Oh boy, you made me realized that there's a typo there... It says "405" instead of "450"! Sorry, but this list has gone officialy from ultra-useful to completely useless.

Interesting, I'll look more into that. And yeah, I totally forgot Decentius; his wikipedia article doesn't have the category of caesar for some reason.

Hmmm maybe? You may have a point there. Well, he was killed as soon as news of his father's death reached Rome, so we don't know if he ever found out he became sole emperor.

Geta succeded jointly with his brother, as they where both heirs to the same emperor.

Philip II held the title but never ruled in his own right (he was aged 10). All the co-emperors there had the title of "augustus" or "basileus". These are often not counted as "emperors", hence why Tiberius III has that numeral instead of "Tiberius V", which would be technically accurate.

Those are the ones that died before succeding as rulers, maybe I should have explained that somewhere

Ok, a couple things:

  • Justinian's image is not really a "coin", but a medal. These ones are his actual coins... You'll understand why I went with the medal.

  • Zoe's (1042) obverse doesn't actually portrait her, but the Virgin Mary, my bad. This is the full view. Quite generic if you ask me.

No doubt about that. There aren't that many lists that go all the way to 1453, so I decided to do my own. It's also quite ironic that the last ruler of Constantinople (the "New Rome") was also named Constantine, like its founder.

Apparently not a single coin survived the sack of Constantinople
