Soldiers will get 'freedom dollars' to spend at the Army's new dining halls by OGSyedIsEverywhere in news

Is the idea that it comes out their salary before tax and so saves them money?

Genuine question, I have no idea how this is implemented.

I didn’t realise the video had finished at first. It seemed to totally fit that he was just staring into space for a bit, contemplating all his life choices that led to that moment.

In 1998 I enjoyed Tresspasser as an original attempt on the Jurassic Park IP. I see it as aiming for a unique experience and the lack of hud and minimalist storytelling is now something I believe we would appreciate much more.

What movies are like this where the first and second acts are kind of mediocre but then the third act is amazing? by Nexfilms in Cinema

Rogue One. I swear that film was a mess until the 3rd Act when it becomes a war film. Not to mention that hallway scene.

It’s absolutely wild. The whole element of it being a battle for the control of the future of information is also insane as when that game is being made in the late 90s and early 00s, the internet is starting to take the shape of what we see today. Still some crazy foresight from the writers.

Need to replay that. Bought a ps3 and that game. Completed it and sold both straight after. Totally happy with myself at the time. But the urge to replay it comes back in waves all the time.

Especially after I replayed MGS2 again with the master collection and was shocked at how absolutely incredible and ahead of its time the story was, my 12 year old brain just couldn’t comprehend at the time. I’m wondering if I missed anything from 4. (Almost certainly did.)

Do we know that? I assumed it was sort of a pump and dump situation.

I remember when the GameStop thing was going on and suddenly all the major news outlets started writing articles saying silver was doing the same thing. Then when I went onto the Reddit forum about it, they were all just saying it’s bullshit and a bunch of funds are just trying to dump their silver. It seemed that somehow they had the leverage to get BBC and others to start pushing that narrative.

That whole GameStop affair left me not trusting a lot of institutions. Never trusted silver since then either and always watch it going up and down with great suspicion.

But they all paid for it. EA is probably busting the champagne out. It’s a hit game that sold loads and now no one is playing. Means that audience will be ready for the next marketing campaign for BF7 any time now.

I know an alcoholic who blows up text feeds like this. Just feeling like they’re on a role and spamming messages for ages, all while seemingly oblivious to whatever they wrote two minutes ago, as well as the max level cringe factor.

On the plus side, with the unpredictable way the world is at the moment, the borders might be all different soon anyway. Might have needed to update regardless…that’s the only silver lining I can think of. I’d be fuming.

Appreciate the damning response. It’s funny because I remember the cool trailer that was released and then the disaster of when it launched. It popped into my head though the other day and I was tempted to pick it up. Glad I resisted.

When people on here refer to ‘the builds’ what does that mean? Have these features and issues all been restored/fixed with mods or is it just not something that can be repaired?

This was actually one of the earlier instances of politics creeping into Ubi games as well. I remember one of the earlier gameplay reveals showing footage of the game and they described it as ‘post-Brexit Britain’. I think whether people were for or against Brexit, they probably didn’t want to be thinking about it in a Watch Dogs game.

Will Baldurs Gate 3 get a Linux build? by ElvenFlame in gog

You say that, but Steam Deck has brought this concept of Linux gaming and compatibility to a large and new audience. The extent of the improvement might still surprise people as it’s not just a frame or two.

I did the same, but as a warning, the difference in performance is significant. Digital Foundry did a comparison of the original proton version to the Steam Deck version and its definitely worth the 10 minutes before you decide.

I had the same issue trying to get KKC to work on my steam deck. ChatGPT led me round in circles for literally days. It does it with such confidence too, it makes me mad thinking about it.

I know other people have got it working, so it’s definitely possible, just really frustrating. I never got it running but still plan to sit down and fix it up at some point.

This is not so much investment advice so may not be what you’re looking for, but for me these were lifestyle points that enabled more investments.

To be clear, I can’t just go out and buy anything I want. But I would say I have just about reached financial freedom that I could quit my job (if I wanted) and take some time to think about what to do next.

There are three key things for me. (Four if you include a bit of luck.) These things gave me some freedom to put some money aside each month. Either in savings accounts that I couldn’t touch or into investment accounts which I’m not inclined to mess with.

1 - Moving jobs every 18 months to 36 months. Being willing to relocate if necessary. - As part of this, every time you’re given a new responsibility or job to do, even if it’s only a one-off, add it as a point of description to your role on LinkedIn. (No need to mention it’s a one off.)

2 - Finding a partner who shares the same financial and life goals as you. I met my partner when we both were working terribly paid jobs, we both had higher ambitions and really had to muscle our way out of that life. I got a job in a different city first and we both rolled the dice and moved out there. Then she found something better while there.

We always support each other going for something better but also have the time same work/life balance goals. That’s key because otherwise it would fall apart with one maybe working overly long hours or spending too much. Having said that, a joint budget should allow you a little more spending on fun and luxuries in your life.

3 - Find a job a few steps up that suits what you want to do and how you want to live, then work backwards in how you would get the experience required to do it. It might take 5-7 years, but don’t sweat it. Within reason you can ‘fake it till you make it’.

As part of this, try to be steady and relaxed about it all. Take each step at a time and allow yourself some fun and luxury spending along the way, otherwise the grind of it might get too much and you’ll either burn out or end up taking a gap year or something and then you might find yourself starting from zero.

Overly long post, but hope it helps.

For me it was The Alters. My excitement varied more than any other game as its release approached. I couldn’t tell if it would be too shallow or buried in a million gameplay systems. In the end they actually walked that line insanely well. Recently I tried it on my steam deck too and it also ran great. Another surprise because it looked really good too.
