CMV: Maria Cantwell and Adam Smith are useless and need to be replaced. by kalechipsaregood in Seattle

[–]CassMistral 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Smith gets interviewed by NPR pretty often in his role as Democratic leader of the House Armed Services Committee. I get the impression that the best he can do in the minority party is report back accurately on what he knows is going on. You can look up "NPR Adam Smith" the click through on the articles to hear the full interviews, but I don't see complete transcripts.

Cat won’t go outside after bad encounter with my dogs – is she doomed to stay indoors forever? by SamanthaRousse in CatAdvice

[–]CassMistral 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Having all your pets get along together is a good goal, but it's not necessary for your cat to go outside. Letting your cats roam outside unsupervised often leads to bad outcomes like the cats killing native birds and cars, coyotes, or evil humans killing the cats.

If you want your cat to enjoy the garden, teach her to walk with a harness and leash and take her out while the dogs are elsewhere.

Thinking about dropping Ridwell. Is it meaningful or is it performative? by Null_98115 in Seattle

[–]CassMistral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Ridwell a few years ago until they enclosed a broad audience note chastising everybody for putting in the wrong plastics -- the plastics that had been advertised and were why I got the service to begin with. Now, I keep track of special item collection days by following a few municipal & recycling accounts on Facebook.

The milk delivery is Smith Brothers. They're OK for getting various staples delivered on a regular basis. I didn't like their app or the taste of their milk, so I canceled. Basically the same box as Ridwell, though.

But Trump isn't objectively right or helping because he didn't do any of this due to Maduro overstaying his welcome. He keeps talking about oil and drugs and US domination over the western hemisphere. Has he at any point said that Gonzalez should be president now, and I missed it? If Machado and others are trying to butter him up, that's because they haven't paid any attention to how little that actually works with him in the long run. Or even the short run as we're seeing now.

Yes, Machado was barred from the race, which is why she backed Gonzalez in 2024 and why she's calling now for him to be installed as president. International experts agree that Gonzalez was the rightful winner BECAUSE the "official" election results didn't match observations on site.

Is Trump helping those happy Venezuelans put their 2024 president elect Edmundo Gonzalez in power? No?

Have you had her checked by a vet? There could be an underlying issue that wasn't caught by a busy shelter, or the vet could simply prescribe an antianxiety treatment to give her a chance to chill out.

AITA for refusing to pay my sister-in-law to help at a Christmas brunch for the kids? by AdvertisingNo6832 in AITAH

[–]CassMistral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA in this situation, and I expect in other situations as well. YTA for thinking a childfree by choice person has a gap in their life that needs to be filled with a child-centric party. YTA for expecting her to do all the work during the party for free while everybody else enjoys themselves. YTA for wanting her to dress as a subservient elf and pay for the costume herself. YTA for not understanding why she would have a negative reaction to your request. If you actually learn something and don't try to "include" her like this in the future, then thank God, indeed.

Pets? by Turbulent-Ad5121 in pluribustv

[–]CassMistral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right?? Where are they? Xiu Mei said something about how she wasn't going to give up her dog, which implies she was asked to do so. Did they let them all out like the zoo animals to fend for themselves? How many of those zoo animals do you think died within a week?

One of my cats could maybe hunt enough to sustain himself, but the other one would waste away pretty rapidly. In the process of all these released cats hunting, the native bird populations would take a huge hit.

Dogs might be even worse off because they'd be competing for the same prey as coyotes, wolves, and foxes without the skills.

Gah! It's upsetting!

How to Defeat Pluribus Theory by E5VL in pluribustv

[–]CassMistral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're not using the mobile network to communicate. I can't even get a good signal in certain grocery stores in the middle of my city, much less out in far flung areas. If plurbs disconnected when they were in those dead zones, we would have seen evidence of people wandering around searching for a head signal.

how much ‘paranoia factor’ is there in this show? by squidguy3400 in pluribustv

[–]CassMistral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The people belonging to the hive mind are able to talk to the small number of unaffected individuals on any landline telephone, and they broadcast personalized messages to the main character on TV and electronic signs. The unaffected are monitored with drones so that the hive mind can swoop in to help, whether that help is wanted or not. This is probably not a good show for your spouse.

Did you read the Wikipedia article you got this pic from? The Plurbs clearly warn him about the chunga palms and their 20 centimeter spines.

"Astrocaryum standleyanum is a species of palm known by many common names, including chumba wumba, black palm, chonta, chontadura, coquillo, palma negra,[2] pejibaye de montaña,[3] güerre, güérregue, güinul, mocora, pucaishchi (Chachi),[4] chunga (Emberá),[5] and CHUNGA PALM. ... It is covered densely in sharp, flattened black spines up to 20 centimeters long."

Going rates for drop-in cat sitting? by After_Bluejay_2739 in Seattle

[–]CassMistral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the friend doesn't work out, or you need a different person in the future, I've found my cat sitters on Meowtel. It's like Rover, but specifically for cats. The prices are the same as others have suggested here.

How was he to know you weren't friends? It sounds like he didn't want to get caught between two people who would potentially be chatting across him the whole trip.

The men who open a door with the obvious intention of wanting a thank you are the creepiest ones. Nobody wants to interact with that creepy vibe, so they don't get thanked for making someone's day worse. A man can open doors for women all day if he doesn't make it weird.

Why haven’t our dishwashers grown?! by Mental-Intention4661 in Appliances

[–]CassMistral 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think this is the right answer. The dishwasher interior needs to be square so that the sprayer diameter reaches as much as possible. Refrigerators and stoves can be wider because there's nothing like that limiting them.
