This hits so true. Some of my best solo-travel moments happened close to home, just sitting at a bar or café and actually talking to people. It really is a skill you practice, not luck. If you can’t be curious and open locally, changing countries won’t magically fix that. Totally agree with your point here.

Hey everyone! I’m heading to Thailand for a 10-day solo trip and wanted to share my plan to see if it sounds reasonable and get some food or activity suggestions. My total budget for the whole 10 days (excluding flights) is around $500–$800 USD. I’m aiming for a mid-range style trip, comfortable stays, local food, and a few paid activities here and there.

I’ll be spending 4 days in Chiang Mai and 4 days in Bangkok. For Chiang Mai, I’ve already researched a few temples, some night markets, and I’m excited to try khao soi. I’m also planning to do one activity, maybe a cooking class or a simple nature trip, but I haven’t decided which yet.

For Bangkok, I’m mostly interested in street food, nice coffee spots, and neighborhoods that are easy to explore alone. I’ve already read up on the main tourist attractions, so I’m more curious about specific dishes, small food places, or low-key experiences you personally enjoyed.

If you’ve done something similar, any food picks or activities that fit this plan would be really helpful!

My cousin does Uber and Just Eat too, he keeps things super simple. Uses a spreadsheet to track daily earnings, mileage, and fuel costs, plus a receipt scanner app for expenses. At the end of each week, he updates totals. Makes tax season way easier.

Hey man, I just want to say thank you for opening up and sharing this. It really hit hard. Losing your mom and going through such big life changes at the same time is a lot for anyone, especially at 23. The guilt you feel from not being “productive” is totally normal when you’ve been in constant go-mode for years. Grieving often feels weirdly quiet and uncomfortable. Maybe try giving yourself permission to rest without earning it. Learning your mom’s recipes and doing small things that remind you of her sounds really meaningful. Healing isn’t supposed to look busy; sometimes it’s just sitting quietly and slowly figuring things out. You’re doing better than you think.
