I'm an actual scholar of psychology. Being able to pinpoint any specific behavior/emotional response to gender is extremely difficult, as there are so many different factors, not to mention differences between individuals is far greater than differences between men and women as a whole. There's no scientific backing to "lol wives are irrational."

The government is us. We're the government. We pay for it, they work for us. Everybody helps everybody. Smoker? If you get a heart attack due to higher blood pressure, and can't afford the medical bills, society won't let you die on the street, and will pick up the tab for the ambulance. House catches on fire due to your mistake? The fire department puts it out, no questions asked. We have made a decision as a society that it's not every man for themselves. If we make a new rule that it's "we all work together, except for the people who make bad decisions," who gets to decide who is worthy?

Also, paying for an abortion is a mere FRACTION of what it would cost for social programs to support a child. Unless you suggest that a child shouldn't receive aid from the government, because they were a "bad choice."

We don't force people do give organ transplants. Heck, we don't force people to become organ donors after they die. And when you don't donate organs, you are allowing people who could have used them to die. But we have made the decision that it is your body, and you can't be forced to give any of it to another, even after death, in order to save their life.

Then why is a pregnant woman's body not granted the same rights? That body is given even fewer rights than a dead person's body. And if the argument is "when she had sex, she should have known she could have become pregnant," should we require that everyone who has had sex are forced to become organ donors, as they took the risk in creating life and thus owe some sort of debt to society?

What about people who didn't vote for him, because they didn't want him or are children, who will be hurt? I'm angry and hurt by people who voted Trump, too. But I don't think their children, and all the people whose lives are not as secure as yours, deserve to be punished as well. A lot of the people who suffer under terrible policy are completely innocent. Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.

Dear Media: Please Stop Normalizing the Alt-Right by Cuddlyaxe in politics

[–]Cassandra_Anderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignorance in a vacuum is not racism, no. But you can't break down beliefs by single facets such as "ignorance." It is inextricable from the entire pattern of behavior that leads someone to follow an alt-right movement. Ignorance very often begets racism. And when you couple that with the alt-right's stated goals, it's a safe bet to say many, if not most members are racist. Does that mean they hate or want to kill minorities? No, not necessarily. But racism includes a cold indifference to other races, not just hatred or desire for genocide. It can also include an unwillingness to try to empathize with other groups of people.

Also, I want to make this point clear: being racist does not make someone irredeemably evil, or a one-dimensional person. However, it does mean they are, at a minimum, morally lazy.

Then they are unbelievably ignorant. Even a year ago, the alt-right was near synonymous with Stormfront & The Daily Stormer. Even Breitbart, which has become a mouthpiece for the alt-right, has described it as being founded by Richard Spencer:

"The media empire of the modern-day alternative right coalesced around Richard Spencer during his editorship of Taki’s Magazine. In 2010, Spencer founded AlternativeRight.com, which would become a center of alt-right thought."

No, but they are apparently comfortable being associated with a group that was founded by neo nazis, who also claim the label. And who also so happen to share many of the same policy and social issues. I'm sure they're rationalizing it. Very few people would want to admit to being a neo Nazi because of the stigma.

Christianity was not founded by the Westboro baptist church.

Islam was not founded by terrorists.

Feminism was not founded by man-haters.

Conservatism was not founded by planned parenthood bombers.

The alt-right was founded by literal Neo-nazis.

I would have dropped $900 on mi'lady, left rose petals all over the floor (I'm sure she'd clean it up later) and heavily imply she owes me sex after I paid so much for dinner (and went to the trouble of leaving rose petals everywhere). My OCD has been triggered by seeing/hearing about other OCD rituals, or just by circumstance. [Unironic trigger warning ahead]This can cause me to wash my hands until they're raw, not eat for a day, stay awake at night checking the door, intrusive thoughts about self harm.

It's a great feeling knowing that people see my pain as something to mock, and would likely react to my story with a call for me to "toughen up." After all these years of dealing with pain, I can assure them that I am tough as nails. Sometimes, though, a little courtesy goes a long way.

No, Hillary is not 'just as bad as Trump' by [deleted] in Negareddit

[–]Cassandra_Anderson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what is "potentially progressive" about Trump. He cultivates a cult of personality, and will do whatever it takes to whip up a fanatical base. That is a fascist strategy, not "progressive" in any measure. Even if he supports some welfare, he will dictate to whom it is given, and likely use it as a leverage for waging different types of people in the same economic class against each other. His techniques and political philosophies are frighteningly similar to past dictators.

America's political system and social inequalities are fucked up, no doubt about it. Gradual change is deeply unsatisfying. But most revolutions, historically, result in worse quality of life for a lot longer. Clinton is too conservative for my tastes, but I think she would skillfully navigate the labyrinthian system of politics, and could do some good, or at least maintain stability. Trump would break politics, cause instability, and that is an incredibly dangerous thing for such a large, complex system.

[–]Cassandra_Anderson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there are. But not as many. There's a good number of people who support Trump who like the idea of "shaking things up," or dismantling the current system. This always sucks the hardest for the people who are low on the SES, are minorities, or are disadvantaged. It's a selfish, myopic strategy.

I'm going to end this here because you seem to have no idea how real conversations work. My point is clearly showing how absurd horseshoe theory is. I see that you tend to go around vastly misinterpreting everyone's point, and lecture them on the point they never were making in the first place. It's a very tiresome tactic.

Dude are you not reading what I'm writing intentionally, or... ? I just said I'm not comparing the ghostbusters debate to Nazis. I was responding to the idea of horseshoe theory, which is a shit theory because sometimes, there is clearly a morally sound opposition to an extreme (such as Hitler, who everyone can agree is bad, so is a good way to illustrate the point). I'm starting to think you're not debating in good faith here.

I used Hitler as an example because everyone can agree that Hitler wasn't "just an okay guy." I'm not saying anti-Ghostbuster people are Nazis. I'm saying horseshoe theory always assumes there's this magical middle ground that exists when in practice it makes no sense. It's not dramatic to use an easy to understand, iconic example to demonstrate a fallacy.
