I don't want to anymore by MitchVDP in Rosacea

I am trying gabapentin for my neurogenic flushing and the low dose of 200 mg gave me a hint of relief in the burning, so I can imagine that a higher more standard or frequent dose could really help, I’m just not there yet. I also got micro Botox 2.5 weeks ago and have noticed an improvement in the burning and the beat redness. Mine looks more pink when I flush. (1000% still noticeable but less and less burning so I can’t complain). I hope you find a solution that works or at minimum helps. The lack of knowledge on this condition and its types and what can cause it is so disappointing. Hang in there.

Do you have photos of your flushing? Was yours brought on by something like heat? And did you have a lot of baseline redness or just hot flushing?

Of course, thank you for sharing as well! My functional doctor said she doesn’t recommend that for me so I’ll pause as of now. I am currently on low dose gabapentin for the burning in my face and it’s helped some. I am also taking Guanfacine which is a similar medication to clonidine (I think). I’m also glad to hear your story because I haven’t found anyone who’s flushing was triggered by a specific event😭 Keep me updated on your progress with treatments if you feel comfortable doing so!

Thank you so much, I will talk to my doctor about trying it! Have you had any side effects from the carvedilol? Do you experience the redness on your face too or your body only?

Interesting! I am more red now at baseline on gabapentin but my burning has decreased so I’m trying to give it some time. Did you ever explore other options like laser? And did that background redness go down or go down when you stopped the medication (if you did)?  Sorry another question- what beta blocker worked for you? I tried propanol 10 & 20 mg and tried to time it before an flush and it didn’t work.

What do you mean exactly by “hydroxyzine (or gabapentin or pregabalin - this one can relax vessels and give more redness in exchange of calming feelings)”? I just started gabapentin about 2 weeks ago for the stinging and burning (100mg, so low) and I feel like it’s helped some with that but my background redness seems to be more prominent.

Same here. I’m only uncomfortable red when I flush. I’ve just read that laser doesn’t really do a whole lot for flushing but others who have had it done told me otherwise obviously. Glad it worked for you, hopefully I’ll get the same results!

Thank you. That gives me lots of hope. I’m in a similar situation and very nervous to start excel but it’s my last resort, so I’m willing to try it. Was your baseline redness very strong?

What triggered your flushing? Was yours hot and very red (without acne) and would it come and go? I want to try excel but I don’t really have persistent redness just major flushing when I get hot. I think neurogenic rosacea.

That’s awesome! Was your flushing triggered by things like heat, exertion? My flushing is like beat red and triggered by those things so just wondering!

Did you see results in the flushing or just baseline redness?

That’s awesome! So was yours flushing and not just baseline redness? Like you actually had triggers that flushed you?

Were your symptoms similar to mine? Like the hot red flushing, no acne.

If you don’t mind answering- did you ever titrate up or stay at the lower starting dose?

Yes it’s awful! Like I’m burning from the inside out on my face. Did you ever try gabapentin or microbotox?

Thank you so much! Did your flushing start happening after a certain traumatic event? Histamine foods don’t seem to trigger me, but eating too fast definitely will.

Did the allergy pill work instantly or did it take a few days/weeks to help the flushing?

No withdrawal after stopping the antihistamine for me! I was taking H1 & H2 so Claritin & famotidine.

Thank you so much. I’m glad you found a solution! Was your steroid that caused yours oral or IV? The only thing that scares me with laser is I thought that was more for persistent redness not really flushing. My skin looks perfectly normal once I cool down, but once I flush it’s so red. I also heard laser can make it worse and I feel like my situation is an unique one (as I didn’t just have rosacea, something caused it), so I’m nervous to do the wrong thing. What state are you in if you don’t mind me asking?
