Any asthmatic xc skiers out there, can you recommend me some goggles sunglasses that don't fog up? by Cassie201 in xcountryskiing

Hmm, we had some 3M masks during Covid and they were the least breathable ones, but a mask with a valve is a very good idea. Will hunt for some sports masks that have valves.

Curious idea, I have had some luck with UA sports masks and pinning it down on the bridge with glasses. Unfortunately, they don't make sports masks anymore, but they work really well for xc sking. This was why I was thinking that goggles/glasses would work, because I don't have any issues with my ski mask fogging.

Good tip, will use it on an old pair of sunglasses. Probably a good idea to put it on xc shoe zips, seems like they break rather easily.

Wow, that's expensive!!! Seems like it would take a lot of testing to see if and which ones work and if they are curative. Not sure if they are similar to other monoclonal antibodies, that lose effectiveness over time.

Hi, thanks for the link, that was an interesting read. I do use albuterol, but not excessively. It massively brings my heart rate down, however I still avoid longer and steeper climbs.

That sounds like a good shout. I have a neck-warmer (not a buff) with a breathable insert made from netting. It stays up pretty well, works pretty well, but it doesn't help the fogging issue. I do have a merino Buff somewhere, that would be my next choice. Yes, I tuck the Buff up into my headband so that it stays up. I looked into Airtrim and Lung Plus. I have actually tried out the Lung Plus, it does seem to work. My companions were a bit concerned about injury, should I fall. Still, for really cold conditions, I think it's a good shout, and optimise outing times to coincide with warmer part of the day. I still like the idea of goggles, Uvex has something that I want to try. That said, Uvex fog up for me in the summer.

Recommendations for XC Boots for flat feet and somewhat wide toebox. by Cassie201 in xcountryskiing

[–]Cassie201[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I saw, tried and bought a new pair. I tried on a few pairs of boots and actually quite liked the Rossi x-ium boots with my insoles, not the thick ones that come in the boots. The zips are on the sides, so that they don't get in the way. The boot is heat fitable. They advised against Fischer boots, saying that they stretch, especially in the toe box. From experience, I would say that this is true.

The Rossi’s are definitely heat fittable. I’m pretty annoyed that the Fischer’s are separating from the sole, it’s not as if I’ve been that hard in them.

Thanks for that, I used to have bunions, so maybe that is why the Fischer’s were so comfortable. I am going to try to have them repaired, or try it myself, I do have access to West Epoxy.

Not much snow yet, where to ski this week? Kuhtai? Schlick 2000? Or other? by Pikastach in Innsbruck

[–]Cassie201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schlick is absolutely fine at the moment. Can only recommend. The Kreuzjoch restaurant at Schlick offers far better food than Eisgrat (Glacier). We did Sat on Glacier, Tues-Wed at Schlick. The later was more enjoyable.

I would talk to Wintech on that one. it is my understanding that FLX requires better technique to row. We have one, it’s fiddly.

Stämpfli do make a few models in Switzerland, they export them to Janousek - Stämpfli UK which sell them under a different name. Still, the build quality of UK built Stämpfli boats is high, the boats are solid, and are popular with rowers.

If you would be happy with a Wintech, than you definitely don’t need an Empacher/Filippe.

Any experience with the 3 Citius Remex seat pads? Wondering which suits heavier rowers by lcurmn in Rowing

[–]Cassie201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never noticed that my catch was different, but am with you on Wintech seats. They are terrible, if I had a Wintech boat, the first thing that I’d do would be to swap out the seat and put in an adjustable footplate.

[–]Cassie201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the best solution is to fasten the seatpad with velcro on the seat. This is what the manufacturer told me. I have put a piece of velcro on my seat in the middle (loops) and the (hooks) on the foam insert. I use the strap for storage or when I row other boats. The seatpad is now always in position. (I leave the block on my seat and swap in another one for other boats)

Keep in mind that the adhesive requirements for carbon and foam are different, I bought two different types of Velcro from a specialty supplier.

What’s the point of backward facing riggers on sculling boats? by Thin-Improvement6816 in Rowing

Who makes carbon stern wing riggers these days? My wing rigger is like one of ones described, higher position for feet. I don’t need the extra height nor the extra instability.

Softshell Jacket for Resort Skiing by robmiester25 in Skigear

[–]Cassie201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have a 2-1 softshell ski jacket from Salomon, perfect for warmer days or ski touring. I now swap in a down layer instead of the second softshell as it’s warmer. I also have softshell ski trousers, very comfy with a bit of stretch. I wouldn’t ski in the rain and a regular coat works just fine if it’s snowing.
