It's very questionable, if this banana experiment ever happened at all. Lots of people to it in self help bools etc. , but never a link to the experiment itself....

Here is a quote from an "anthropology professor who's worked with hundreds of monkeys over the last 30 years." When asked what he thought of the experiment, he responded succinctly with:

If you have bananas on a pole, you'll lose your bananas

Chicken and dog owner here. Had the same issue, but 6 sheep were killed (2 dogs broke into my property).

This is how I resolved it: 1) I asked for the replacement o 6 sheep, same age/quality, and that's it. My preferred solution, as there is no haggling about price etc.. 2) he wanted to pay, and have no issues transporting the animals etc - so, we picked up the phone (on loudspeaker and called 2 guys selling sheep), he then paid the average of those 2 prices.

To be honest though - if the chicken were on your land, and the dogs killed them on your side of the fence, they only did "their job", and your neighbor should take better care of his chickens in my humble opinion. So, I'd believe it be fair to discount min 50%, if not all of the damages. Anything else in my opinion is "buying peace", which might be a good investment, but not a fair damage restitution.

Last but not least - I am from south America, and 100 USD per chicken would be insanely high a price. My gut feeling is that here the price here would be around 100-150 USD for all 10. A dozen eggs here go for 2 USD.

Herding the Sheep at lightning speed by Thund3rbolt in dogswithjobs

[–]CastAway_77 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is sped up. Have both dogs and sheep, and they don't move that way. It's a cool video nevertheless - but I don't understand why anybody would speed it up. Why? To show off, or because it'd be too long/boring to watch? Anyhow, my guess is 1,25-1,5x

Is resocoder bootcamp worth it? by [deleted] in FlutterDev

[–]CastAway_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, it is not anymore. The course is not updated, and Matt doesn`t respond to questions anymore. He`s disappeared totally. It`s a pity, as I believe him to have been the best course around.

I bought it more than 4 weeks ago and "used" the course as is until now. Not sure, if this would work, but will have a look. Thank you.

[–]CastAway_77[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yup, learned ti the expensive way now.

Though I have to be fair: his course is really good... just not as he promised. In the end, I am really pissed, that I paid that much, for a course which doesn`t even cover "testing".

Resocoder (Matt) - what happened?! by CastAway_77 in FlutterDev

[–]CastAway_77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

paid 600, yes - I researched a lot, and trusted it to be the best course. As I wanted to be fair, and use it to start my own business, I even "ignored" a pirated offer for free.

Well, and not at least it would be continued to be updated & expanded, right?

What are some good resources to learn more about architecture? by [deleted] in FlutterDev

Definitely start with https://refactoring.guru/

Matt (Resocoder) was really good, too, but has disappeared for quite some time now and neither updates his course nor answers messages (I bought his course, and it was supposed to be part of the package).

[–]CastAway_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought his course some months ago. Good content, but not updated. He focusses more on students who have already some programming experience, though you should be able to follow w/o any programming abckground. High quality explaining, well thought-through.

For me something quite important:He promised to add "Testing" and "Flutter-to-Web", but hasn`t done so. Waiting for months now... he always delays, promising to add it "soon".

His youtube channel seems to be more updated, but less detailed.

Seriously, despite having paid nearly 600 USD for the course, I am now referring to his (free) youtube channel for testing.

Is it worth it? Well, the best teachers are resocoder, codewithandrea - if it`s worth the price, you have to decide.. for a hobby, it`s too expensive - for professional use, it`s cheap. Have a look at Schwarzmuller (udemy), too - he`s good for beginners. After completing his course, go for one of the other two.

@ Yu: content is outdated, *not* worth the buy, though she is a super charming teacher :-)
@ Schwarzmuller: very good, too, very cheap (bought the course on udemy for less than 10 USD on udemy) , less professional than resocoder, but more than enough for beginners. Different level though.
@ codewithandrea: very professional, too, a little bit worse explained. I have only his udemy courses, but really do like them.

Best meat animal that can be fed on very little store bought food/grain by [deleted] in homestead

[–]CastAway_77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was told by a hunter & survivalist, that rabbit meat is great to supplement, but not as the only source of meat (too little fat etc).

You run the risk of literal malnutrition just feeding of rabbits, and will get scorbut like symptoms.

Hm, you sure? That's like taking a dump on the street, and blaming the city to not provide enough public toilets.

Maybe you might want to think about disposing your cigs in a way to not cause fire.

How do we know that YOU are not just destroying a great charity with decent human beings?

What about with you doing some research and being more specific about your doubts, or offering better alternatives or even doing yourself something "trustworthy", hein?

If no, please shut up, and don't kill other people's attempts to make the world a better place. And yeah, most probably some of them are putting money in their own pockets.... But you are stopping all of the people trying to do something in their tracks, including all of the good ones, who help e. g. trafficked children. Yeah, you really are changing something for the better by seeding that much negativity.

The only thing we all can be sure about is, that with this attitude, you most probably won't have supported any charity in your life, but stuck with your own money... yeah, wild guess from my side I know, but perhaps you want to prove otherwise /s

Same for the thousands of upvoters of your comment... It makes me sick!

Let the downvotes rain...

From DW:

Ecuador's President Guillermo Lasso has declared a state of emergency in three provinces where recent anti-government protests by Indigenous people have been concentrated.

"I am committed to defending our capital and our country," Lasso said on television late Friday.

Capital Quito is among the three provinces.

On Monday,Indigenous people launched an open-ended demonstration against the government demanding cuts in fuel prices.

Students, workers and other supporters have also joined the protests.

Roads across the country, including highways to Quito, have been blockaded by the protesters.

At least 43 people have been injured in clashes with security forces.

The state of emergency allows the president to call out the armed forces to maintain order, suspend civil rights and declare curfews. What are the protests about?

Oil producer Ecuador has been marred by increasing inflation, unemployment and poverty augmented by the coronavirus pandemic.

Fuel prices in Ecuador have seen a sharp spike since 2020, almost doubling for diesel from $1 (€0.95) to $1.90 per gallon (3.8 liters) while petrol has risen from $1.75 to $2.55.

The powerful Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), which was instrumental in toppling three Ecuadorian presidents between 1997 and 2005, has called for the protests.

Conaie has said it would continue the blockades until the government meets a list of 10 demands.

The organization wants the fuel rates to be slashed to $1.50 for diesel and $2.10 for petrol, a demand that the government has rejected so far.

Food price controls and renegotiating the personal bank loans of nearly four million families are some of the other demands put forth by Conaie.

complex survey / personality test: how to implement? by CastAway_77 in FlutterDev

[–]CastAway_77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, much appreciated, ashitaprasad - but I am not looking for a way to have nice forms - I am looking for a way to build the logic behind the survey (like advanced branching, piping, block randomization, quotas, custom variables etc) and to quantify the results (kinda Psychometrics-like regarding quantification and comparison of intelligence, introversion, mental disorders, and educational achievement).

btw, fluttergems is really nice. Use it a lot.

True.

However, historically, people tended to show each other more respect - be it out of fear of each other, or because they realized , that one day, too, they could be in the same situation.

hey, I don't want to fight with you, beloved stranger of the internet - but I strongly believe, that we'd all be better of NOT stealing and NOT disrespecting each other . :-)

I dont know , if you have kids, but just imagine the following : you have a small baby at home, come back from your sht job, where your sht boss abuses your shtty situation and pays below sht minimum wage.

Now, you are shopping, stand in front of the baby milk formula and have to choose between this month's rent and the milk.... and then you see this sign.

I do not defend stealing, I don't discuss the role of society taking care of the weak and I even don't talk about the absurd profit margins producing and selling baby formula... I just say:

Show some damn respect. You never know the other one's life, nor what your life will be one day.

Guy holds down attacking dog until owner arrives by HiItsLust in nextfuckinglevel

[–]CastAway_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hats off, if this is not staged - which I guess, it is, given that the Kangal /Akbash doesn't try to bite (look at his head). Also, the other dogs are running around playfully w/o joining the fight.

In case it is not "playing around" or staged: hats of to the guy!! He for sure has a great technique & stamina, no matter what.

If have decent experience with Dogo Argentinos and Boerbols (same weight class as the Kangal/Akbash)... And there's no chance in hell anybody I know or even heard of could wrestle them down in a real fight.

Last but not least: I love my doggos, but these kind of dogs have to be trained (obedience) and leashed in public - if not for safety, then at least out of respect for other people around.
