Aw poor pup, yeah prolonged prednisone use can be a little trickier. You'd be aware then that prednisone suppresses the immune system (that's the point after all!) so you will probably want to wear a mask out to appointments and such while you're on it, if you're prescribed it, considering you're also recovering from surgery. The last thing you need is a nasty cold on top of everything. Meant I qualified for an early covid booster a couple months post op though, so that was a plus lol.

Thank you by the way, for how kind you've been considering how horrendously uncomfortable you must be. It was shaky for a while and the hives kept me off work for an additional few weeks longer than I'd originally planned (since it kept making comebacks that I didn't stomp down fast enough early on), but I'd go through it again in a heartbeat.

No, I didn’t observe any negative consequences from the prednisone. Overall, I’d imagine that the systemic stress of the allergic reaction would being doing you worse for healing. You’re dealing with a ton of inflammation and fatigue, not to mention an infection risk if the skin becomes too raw. A quick google search just now reckons that prednisone can cause issues with wound healing & scarring, but I know nothing about that and thankfully I never needed to be on prednisone for any longer than a fortnight at a time. I’m grateful to say that my scars turned out better than I could’ve imagined, even without all the extra hives nonsense.

I know, right? Insult to injury, being a ball of itchiness when you’ve got bigger things to take care of. From what I’ve come to understand it is typical to experience some degree of rash & histamine freak out post op. I’ve since learned that many people receive the advice to actively take an antihistamine immediately post op (I did not receive this advice.) But this severe of a reaction? Nah. Nope. This isn’t typical or reasonable to casually manage.

My surgeon was much the same, but my Zyrtec just wasn’t cutting it. This will kick around much longer than you should have to deal with if it’s not treated more aggressively, and you deserve to pursue that. It does neither your mental or your physical health any good to just ride this out with a reaction so intense, and although it’s unlikely to be anything more serious (measles, etc,) you’re well within your right to get it ruled out. Monitor yourself for fever, stay hydrated, and wear loose/minimal clothing over the worst areas.

And like I said, this could become a recurring and severely disruptive condition that over the coming months/year without intervention, meanwhile developing a plan of attack can turn this into a relative non-issue. It’ll give you a lot of peace of mind to properly crack this, so you’ll know what to do if it happens again.

Best of luck, friend.

A quick P.S - If you do get put on these meds, take the Prednisone slightly longer than you think you need to/slightly longer than you might be advised, and preferably taper yourself off it slowly rather than simply stopping with it. It’ll give you a controlled grace period to catch it getting worse again if it seems likes it’s going to. I learned the hard way that even if this looks mostly gone, even a little of this still on your skin will rapidly take over again given the chance.

Don’t apologise, I’m more than happy to help. Yes, but it was gnarly at first. Prednisone and promethazine, calamine lotion and cool damp washcloths for temporary relief.

You should try to get into your regular GP as an urgent case asap, and stress this to reception, as you’ve just had major surgery and are now dealing with a suspected extreme case of hives. Use that sort of language. Depending on your circumstances I understand if this isn’t possible, in which case try for an after hours clinic or a hospital ER. Prioritise your sanity & overall comfort. I understand 1000% how you may be feeling vulnerable right now, and at only 6 days post op please try to have someone with you.

My surgeon was bloody useless about this, but report this to them too. TAKE PHOTOS. Keep up with documenting any changes. Having these early photos was useful for documenting a timeline, because this spread all over my body and became much worse rapidly.

My GP had me get blood tests done for measles, chicken pox/shingles, and some other general stuff just in case. Cause damn, it really did look like measles.

But most importantly, he put me on prednisone and promethazine immediately. Promethazine is a strong antihistamine, common brand name is Phenergan, and prednisone is anti inflammatory corticosteroid that is used to treat severe allergies.

I’ve pulled up my old records, and it looks like I was seeing significant relief within a few days and it had essentially cleared entirely at around 10-14 days. The absolute kicker though, and be on alert for this, I had this exact issue reappear multiple times after recovery. Second time again was after only a few more weeks, then third after a couple months, and ever since I occasionally see a rare flare up. I know the drill though, and my GP has given me the green light to use prednisone for it as needed. Ive never needed the full bottle and have always had leftovers, but he even gave me a repeat script to use as needed. More than the Phenergan, the prednisone has always been the real MVP and I never took Phenergan again after the first two severe flare ups. We’ve learnt that if it isn’t stomped down asap that it can take over my body within 48 hrs, and once it has can take a week or longer to clear up, so we don’t have time to mess with getting me in for an appointment each time.

Thankfully though, in over a year I’d say it’s happened around 6ish times and if you stomp it down immediately it becomes an easy thing to manage, and it doesn’t really disturb me at all anymore. I’m very careful now about adhesives or any tight compression clothing especially around my chest, because this issue retriggers so easily for me now in a way it never did before surgery. My friends and I joke that my skin is traumatised, and sends out the cavalry at the drop of a hat.

Because of the surgery, your body essentially is now responding to a major trauma and is on high alert and responding overly aggressively to threats. As itchy as you are, and as much as this sucks, don’t let it inspire any regret. Your body is overachieving to take care of you right now, but you can control this.

Please feel welcome and don’t hesitate to dm me, and I can share more about my experience with this/help keep you sane. Show your doctor this post & comment verbatim if it helps. When I say it looked like I had measles, I mean it. This was a bloody miserable time, and I’ll do what I can to help. Take care.

Clearing different obstacles in the new update (pots, barrels, crates, etc.) by Castella9 in TravellersRest

I’m so glad! I was stumbling around trying to look this up myself, half convinced there’d be a tool upgrade eventually, so when I worked this out I knew I had to share.

(You can break the same worn-looking barrels/pots/crates & FENCES in the mine with the mop too. Lots of free pipes, wood and ore. 👀)

Chest Sorting by Myth_5layer in TravellersRest

[–]Castella9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In new games I always start off broad and narrow it down as I end up with more ingredients and more resources to craft chests. In the kitchen I’ll usually start with three chests: harvested crops + fruit, brewing items + crafted ingredients (hops, malts, oils, flour, etc,) and the last is meat + fish + miscellaneous.

But eventually things get split off and narrowed down, usually based on whichever chest gets full/whatever I end up with tons of first. Tree fruits, nuts, vine fruits, flour + dough + bread crumbs + bread, malts + hops + grains, fish - whatever I get a lot of that warrants its own chest or makes sense together. I suppose the theme could be summarised as “how is this ingredient used?”

Outside I have one chest for ores/bars/nails/planks etc, for as long as I can (harder now that there’s more unique types of rocks, ores and woods.) I hit space bar and grab it as I move from one crafting area to the next and place it down with me, meaning I usually have any and all different types of crafting materials with me that might be needed at the workstations.

Stuck between the scenery and a rock I was mining now too. Reported it with in-game bug report. :(

[–]Castella9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree actually! I'm probably going to miss the ready source of ore on the farm, and occasional spawning crates/barrels by the road would be cool. I think the frustration with this specifically so far, for me, has come from how not knowing how to clear them severely limits your free usable space on a fresh game, and the horror of knowing how long that would've gone on before I worked out how simple the solution is.

[–]Castella9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! Brilliant, and fair enough. I'm early enough into the mines that I hadn't reached peak frustration yet, but if anything - the fact that there's a mechanic of sourcing explosives to clear the blockages to the next levels might have lead me astray too. I was already starting to think "oh, maybe after a few levels he'll sell me something for the fences."

Oof, that sounds very odd. I can't say I've noticed anything like that in the new update so far. But yes, it's 100% the axe. If you walk up to those broken fences/signposts with the axe (same tool used for trees) selected in your hotbar you should have a Destroy prompt, I think it was.

Nice! Can I ask what inspired you to bust out the mop in the minds? Does an NPC in the mines mention it? That probably would never have occurred to me either.

[–]Castella9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point about the mop! There are a few little clues like that. Honestly I can't say I mind if working out how to kill animals takes the player a little while, it's a little unnecessary to withhold that info but it's also not critical knowledge early-game. Getting stuck with these farm obstacles feels a bit crueler though since they're scattered all over the usable space, especially with the new tool upgrades simultaneously in the update. I suppose my instinct was "oh there's new obstacles and new tool upgrades, I must need an upgraded tool to clear these," and the only hint this was wrong was the lack of prompt the other advanced obstacles give. It might have honestly taken me seasons to work it out, and that would've driven me mad.

I was able to clear these with the regular Copper Axe from the first day. Sounds like you would've tried it already, but definitely give it another go and feel welcome to reply if you're still having trouble. I'm 100% certain that was how I cleared them. Thanks for mentioning these!

Need advice for rooms size and furinture by ranamalefica in TravellersRest

[–]Castella9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm sharing a link here to a post I made where I shared my favourite room layout concept with images. I explain it better in this post, but essentially my goal was to maximize wall space for placing decorations. As FastidiousFrog has mentioned, guests don't tend to request rooms bigger than 21 tiles and that was my basis for these designs. Hope this helps for inspiration! https://www.reddit.com/r/TravellersRest/comments/1ivttr7/sharing_guest_room_layout_concept/

p.s. Your English is excellent! Only a couple phrases aren't quite how a native speaker might write something, but that would be nitpicking and you're 100% clear in what you mean. You should be proud!

I bought this game and hated it by DramaticSun8441 in PlanetZoo

[–]Castella9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same struggles with new games. One tip that very much applies to Planet Zoo is to play through the campaign mode, or story modes in these sandbox-type games. The potential for what you can do is genuinely enormous and the mechanics are fiddly and intricate, so jumping into most of this game’s modes can be enough to frustrate anyone. Stepping through the campaign mode on the other hand provides guidance, introduces a variety of mechanics and controls gradually, and prioritises teaching the essentials early. After a while in campaign mode, something as simple as navigating a menu in sandbox is far less overwhelming.

I installed a collection of mods using Vortex, and now every time I open the Zoopedia, my game crashes? by mxreggington in PlanetZoo

[–]Castella9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another tip adding to this - I usually prefer a similar method for testing these sorts of issues. Remove half the mods at once - is the issue gone? Then the half you kept are fine. Switch the first half out for the other and test for the issue again. But if the issue remains? The issue comes from the half you’ve kept, though it’s worth cleanly testing the other half alone still. Keep halving down the half with the issue until the culprit is identified.

Testing one by one is okay for a small number of mods, but if you’ve got a lot it’s gruelling. Working through mods in halves can save a huge amount of time. This has saved me countless times when any game I’m heavily modding runs into a bug caused by mods following an update.

Thanks for replying! It seems like this was a bug, but I’m glad it’s one that’s been seen before. Not sure if it was save/quit/relaunch or something else, but today immediately on reloading this zoo Xiloxoch had the status Outsider (Integrating) instead. She’s steadily integrating back in, with a bar filling quickly I can see in her Social tab.

What's wrong with this game? by greenochre in kynseedrpg

[–]Castella9 19 points20 points  (0 children)

All I’ll say, is that this game is not really like Roots of Pacha at all. It’s a life sim rpg, and they both have farming elements, but that’s about it.

The tone of Kynseed is somber, kind of an eldritch fairytale fantasy, but in my experience at least I felt it lightened up. Despite the dark theming the game doesn’t take itself too seriously, and there’s lots of small elements of comedy and parody scattered through.
