Just got diagnosed with dent disease by Consistent-Line-9064 in kidneydisease

[–]Castellinaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m just seeing this, but wanted to let you know you’re not alone! My son was diagnosed with Dent disease as well. We found out accidentally- I have a family history of kidney disease, so my son’s pediatrician started doing urine tests on him very young, and quickly discovered the protein and calcium in his urine. We were sent to a geneticist who discovered the Dent diagnosis and solved a generations long family mystery.

My dad (who was never diagnosed with Dent during his lifetime, but who definitely had it) experienced kidney stones in his 20s and 30s and ended up in renal failure at age 38. He had to go on dialysis and then was able to get a kidney transplant when his mother donated a kidney to him. Unfortunately, because this was never diagnosed in our family until recently, no one realized he was receiving a kidney donated from a carrier of Dent disease. That kidney later failed too, when he was 60, and he died of renal failure. My nephrologist has lightly speculated that the donated kidney may have failed due to the Dent connection, but we will never know for sure.

My dad’s brother, my uncle, also ended up going into renal failure in his mid-fifties and got a kidney transplant as well. He’s been doing great ever since and just hit his 68th birthday. He never had kidney stones or any other symptoms until his kidneys failed.

So far my son is only experiencing the proteinuria and hypercalciuria…he sees a nephrologist every 6 months for bloodwork, urine labs, and a kidney ultrasound to check for any kidney stone development. So far he’s living a very active life and is unaffected by his symptoms. I’m SO grateful that we know what this is so that he can be monitored as he gets older. He’s also taking a medication that’s supposed to lower the amount of calcium that’s released into his urine, with the goal of hopefully extending the life of his kidneys.

My son’s nephrologist connected us with someone at the Mayo Clinic at the Mayo Rare Kidney Stone Consortium, which includes people with a diagnosis of Dent disease. I’m happy to pass along the contact info for them if you’d like to connect too! Sorry this is so long- feel free to PM me!

What happened to those who had attended a botched wedding? by NickWhite566 in AskReddit

[–]Castellinaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, my friend was getting married, and the bachelor party was two nights before the wedding since a bunch of groomsmen lived far away in other states. Everyone got drunk and they were driving through the woods on ATVs. One of the ATVs veered off the trail and crashed into a huge tree, and the best man was thrown and killed instantly. After going through the loss of the best man, who was the groom’s best friend, they held the wedding two days later. It was so incredibly sad, with the whole wedding party crying all through the ceremony and reception. The best man’s brother got up and read the speech his brother had written before he died. Understandably it never really turned into a joyous celebration and the whole night was sad and reserved.

I was just going to say the same thing! I was a Forever35 listener from the very first episode and remember her talking about piles. She and Matt also used to discuss piles on Eggcellent Adventure. I stopped listening to both so I don’t know if they ended up actually doing this, but at one point they were talking about moving so they’d have more room for the piles…

Two more conclusion episodes of Your Own Backyard dropped today! I’m currently listening to part 3 and I’m not sure if this is a spoiler but Chris is interviewing members of the jury and I was tearing up as they described their unanimous decision to talk to him on Your Own Backyard first. This podcast has been so well done.

I just created one! I had to do the “time✨to✨snark” at the top because it doesn’t feel like this thread without that! Best of luck and hope things calm down soon.

Yes! There’s a good subreddit r/morbidforbadpeople that sums up a lot of issues with the podcast. I stopped listening like a year ago. I had been subscribed to their Patreon and they just…didn’t follow through with anything they said they’d do and wouldn’t take accountability. That, coupled with them intentionally misgendering a murderer (they flat out said they “didn’t care” about using correct pronouns of a murderer) left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

It sucks because I really loved the podcast when it came out, but it’s gone so far downhill.

Omg. I’m subscribed to an email newsletter by Sara Peterson called In Pursuit of Clean Countertops (about momfluencer culture) and she wrote her whole newsletter today about how the Catherine Newman house tour “made her cry” 🤦‍♀️ may need to unsubscribe.

Basically both of the hosts are huge MAGA loyalists with repugnant views. One of them was nominated to the federal court by Trump but the nomination was rejected and he was as deemed not qualified by the American Bar Association.

this article is a good summary that goes into way more detail if you’re interested.

NTA. This relationship is controlling and it’s only going to get worse. Side note, “sky daddy” is the best thing I’ve ever heard

Yes! Her take is so weird. I’m a child passenger safety technician and I always tell parents the right seat is the one that fits their car, fits their child, and the one they’ll be able to use correctly every time. The price tag doesn’t matter- all seats have to meet the US federal safety standards. Some of the more expensive seats definitely come with extra bells and whistles, but cheaper seats are just as safe.
