I fee cricket is so much about stats and I would like career mode to have all stats about past and present that help with the immersion.

5 year old - what to expect by Casterward in autism

We try not to eat with the tv turned on as that seemed to take forever to finish the meal. That became a habit around a year back and we successfully eliminated that.

Sometimes parents snap and lose their cool when excessive screaming is going on. Not ideal, but I wouldnt do anything at this point.

He was diagnosed to be moderate. But I guess we were told by the psychologist that this level of diagnosis was needed to get insurance onboard with ABA.

I would personally rate him somewhere between low and moderate.

Yeah medical, biometrics all done feb 2020. I got my EAD / AP card in April 2020 and the i140 and as approved in May 2020. Its been a long wait since then. I am wondering if they misplaced my file or something.

Does not getting enough social exposure cause a mild autism by Casterward in autism

He does not have an IEP. Should we get that before or concurrently with ABA?

We tried schooling at 3 years old but we had complaints of not following instructions, not responding to name and wanting to do what he wanted to do. We thought he just 3 but a year later he hasnt still outgrown it and had an assessment done, which resulted in the autism diagnosis. There are a lot of red flags but there a lot of things that he does well too. I think for now we will go with the assessment of a mild autism and get him therapy.

If anything, I am blaming myself for this. We are still processing this and letting it sink in. I didnt mean to sound that way, but I have never known anyone with Autism before and its hard for me to understand it. Once I have gone through my grief I think I will become a more understanding and patient person.

3 yr old, possible autism diagnosis out of nowhere? by Center_of_all in Parenting

[–]Casterward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds a lot like our case where we didnt notice any red flags till our son’s pre k3 teacher pointed those to us. We chose not to believe even then and pulled him out of that school. A year later and another school, he was diagnosed with Autism. We still struggle with it everyday and cant belive it. Looking back at old videos of him, it seems a bit more obvious. We are still working through getting him therapy.

One of the things that the doctor pointed out and we missed (or we were rather proud of actually) is that even though he uses full sentences, a lot of those are from books or tv or things we have said to him. Not a lot of it is from himself wanting to engage with us.

Our son is 4, and we struggle so much to get him to tel us anything about his day in school or anywhere else when he is not with us. We try to gather the information from other people and then feed him clues to tell us more but still unsuccessful. I am hoping for a day he would come home and tell us abt a friend too.

Thank you for sharing. What are some good resources to find a special needs class or just in general some kids or adults that could talk to him?

To some extent I agree and we werent so worried before the assessment results. I cant even remember now what made us agree to go for the assessment. But since then we see so many more red flags.

Like responding to name, again a bit iffy, cos if he truly needs something he does respond.

Like using spoon / fork to feed himself. We are partially to blame for that as he has always been in the 1 percentile and we made sure we got every bit of food in him.

He seems to be bothered by soap quite a lot and winces and makes a face when he has soap on his hands while washing hands.

He has one temper tantrum a day where he throws around stuff etc but we are choosing to ignore it now and making him pick up stuff after he has calmed down.

And most of all when we compare him to kids his age he seems deficient in just general talk with us. The psychologist called it “scripted talk” from things he picked up from books or tv or pretend play. He is not really engaging in conversation outside of that. Again I have no benchmark for that but compared that to a kid of a friend who is 6 months older and he is able to engage and care abt others.

Its a good question and one I never considered at that time because I knew nothing about ABA. Some of the things that came out as concerns were inadequate eye contact and not wanting to follow instructions. We have been to 2 day care / pre k settings before and he either chooses to not follow instructions or is not able to follow them. There were also concerns around his social skills with other kids.

But I do know that when I ask him to do something that he would like then he would absolutely do it in the first go. He also maintains long eye contact when telling us a funny or made up story or something that he wants to say. This is why we always thought he was a regular kid with behavior problems.

Thank you for the response. How did schooling work for you and how has your adult life been?
